It’s a new year, but some things never change. Hollywood hypocrites wasted no time proving at Sunday night’s 77th annual Golden Globe Awards that they didn’t learn a thing in 2019.

The Golden Globes, an award show that recognizes achievement in film and television, is generally considered the start of “Awards season” in Hollywood. This means that Sunday night’s leftist propaganda fest was merely the beginning of another couple months of bloviating, self-aggrandizement, and hypocrisy from the entertainment industry.

If there was one bright moment to this year’s Golden Globes broadcast, it was host Ricky Gervais. This was the British comedian’s fifth (and final) turn as host, and just like in years past he took the opportunity to skewer the collective hypocrisy of the assembled Hollywood A-listers with his caustic, unforgiving wit.

The comedian dished out several zingers during his opening monologue. Many of his jokes were met with groans, and Gervais replied each time with, “Shut up. I don’t care.”

During his gleeful assault, Gervais mentioned a popular new television show produced by Apple. “A superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweat shops in China,” Gervais said. “So, well, you say you’re woke, but the companies you work for — I mean, unbelievable, Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, you would call your agent, wouldn’t you?”

Gervais wrapped up his monologue by warning the winners to stay away from politics. “Don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech,” he warned. “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and f— off. No one cares about your views on politics or culture.”

Nevertheless, the biggest mouths in the room couldn’t resist. Patricia Arquette, known for her rambling political speeches at awards shows, delivered another doozy Sunday night. Wearing pink sunglasses, Arquette accused Donald Trump of starting a war with Iran and called upon all people to vote in 2020 — presumably only the ones who will vote Democrat.

Actor Russell Crowe used the devastating wildfires in his home country of Australia as a springboard for a global switch to green energy so that millions of people can lose their jobs and energy can become too expensive for much of the world’s poor population.

Critics were quick to chastise Gervais about his comments, but all the bloviating that followed Gervais’s opening monologue only proved his point. Regular Americans don’t care what Hollywood thinks, and the steady decline in viewership of these award shows demonstrates as much.

Year in and year out, Hollywood leftists prove how far removed they are from American society. While they circle the wagons to protect rapists and pedophiles among their own ranks, they self-righteously lecture society about the treatment of women with science-fiction revenge fantasies like “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Harvey Weinstein’s crimes against women were known among the Hollywood elite for years, but no one said anything. In fact, he was the Democrat Party’s biggest ringleader in Hollywood, connecting the Clintons and the Obamas with some of the industry’s biggest donors. Weinstein is heading to trial this week to face the first of his many accusers, and he was charged Monday with two counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles, to go with more in New York City. But, thanks to his powerful political friends on the Left, some are wondering if he will ever see the inside of a jail cell.

If he does, you have to wonder if Weinstein will end up like Epstein, who, Gervais joked, “didn’t kill himself.”

Hollywood is a land of fantasy run by people who play dress-up and pretend for a living — and are paid very well to do it. They surround themselves with entourages that fluff their egos and give them everything in life that they desire. Then, they pontificate about how the rest of us should live our lives. However, other than lecturing the public and foisting their mediocre products on us, they don’t want a thing to do with any of us. We should all act accordingly in return.

Update: Gervais later responded to the kerfuffle over his speech:
