During a press conference Wednesday, President Donald Trump was asked if he would disavow the fringe conspiracy theory known as QAnon. After acknowledging that he knew little of the movement’s beliefs, he mused, “I understand they like me very much, which I appreciate.” A reporter asserted that the movement’s followers believe they are fighting to stop a satanic cult of pedophiles and cannibals that have infiltrated the highest levels of government. Trump responded, “I haven’t heard that. But is that supposed to be a bad thing or a good thing? If I can help save the world from problems, I’m willing to do it, and I’m willing to put myself out there.” He then redirected the conversation, arguing, “And we are, actually. We’re saving the world from a radical left philosophy that will destroy this country.”

QAnon is group of fringe conspiracy theory adherents (and there is no question it is just that, and likely to troll Trump supporters). But when given the opportunity Trump did not distance himself from the conspiracy supporters. That’s too bad given a couple of GOP congressional candidates embrace the theory. More importantly, this was not a good look for an American president, as conspiracy theories by their very nature undermine the ability to get at the truth – in additional to the fact the FBI labels QAnon a domestic terrorist threat.

That notwithstanding, by comparison let’s consider the much more widely accepted leftist conspiracy theory, initiated and promoted by Democrats and their Leftmedia cohorts in their effort to undermine Trump’s presidency and sow rampant division across the nation.

That is, of course, the 2016 Russia collusion delusion, still parroted by Democrats and members of the mainstream media as fact — even after it has been thoroughly debunked by multiple comprehensive investigations. Even to this day Democrats cling to it, dubiously asserting that the reason Trump won the election was because of colluding with Russian actors. Hillary Clinton, in her speech last night at the Democratic National Convention, ridiculously asserted, “Vote to make sure we — not a foreign adversary — choose our president.” She further added, “Remember: Joe and Kamala can win three million more votes and still lose. Take it from me. So we need numbers overwhelming, so Trump can’t sneak or steal his way to victory.”

In fact, using their original “Russiagate” conspiracy theory as cover, Democrats controlling the highest levers of power actually conspired in an attempted coup. And they continued to spin off other theories, all equally without merit. Indeed, House Democrats actually impeached Trump over a Ukraine phone-call conspiracy theory, and they are currently seeking to push Trump’s aversion to adding billions in funding to the perpetually underperforming U.S. Postal Service as a conspiracy to suppress voting.

The truth is, the damage Democrats have inflicted on the country with their politically orchestrated conspiracy theories — and actual conspiracies — dwarfs anything coming from a fringe movement like QAnon. Moreover, as Trump observed of QAnon, at least “these are people that love our country.” That cannot be said of today’s America-hating Democrats.
