The Patriot Post® · Evangelicals for Biden Make a Mockery of Christian Faith
Recently, a public statement was released by a group of so-called pro-life evangelicals supporting Democrat Joe Biden for president. It is so offensive in its audacity, and so delusional in its assertions, as to warrant the most scathing of rebukes.
In it, these “evangelicals” argue that, though they oppose Biden on abortion, President Donald Trump has fallen so short on other “pro-life” issues that they feel compelled to vote for the most radically pro-abortion presidential ticket in history.
To justify their betrayal of Christian doctrine and basic human decency, the signatories argue, “A biblically shaped commitment to the sanctity of human life compels us to a consistent ethic of life that affirms the sanctity of human life from beginning to end.”
“Poverty, lack of health care, racism and climate change all kill persons created in the image of God,” they further assert. “They are all pro-life issues.” That’s followed by itemizing what they see as President Trump’s failures on these issues.
For example, the authors oppose President Trump’s efforts to repeal or dismantle ObamaCare, arguing that the 20 million Americans insured under it would lose that insurance with repeal. Yet a recent report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services points out that, while adding some to the insurance rolls, ObamaCare threw millions more off their insurance and made it so expensive as to be insurance in name only.
Furthermore, despite claiming Trump has not offered a “genuine” alternative, the reality is he has already begun implementing policies that use consumer choice and free market competition to reduce the cost of healthcare and expand access to the poor and middle class.
The authors also criticize Trump on climate change, claiming it “already kills untold thousands and will soon kill tens of millions unless we change.” They accuse Trump of being a “denier,” claiming (without evidence) his policies have made things “much worse.” Yet according to International Energy Agency data, under Trump’s energy policies, U.S. greenhouse gases dropped by 3% in 2019 alone.
The authors argue that “racism kills” before regurgitating the despicable, debunked, but oft-repeated lie that Trump has refused to condemn racist groups. That is a lie so brazen, so demonstrably false, as to constitute malicious slander. Trump has specifically denounced racism and racist groups repeatedly and on numerous occasions. Maybe these so-called “evangelicals” should revisit Exodus 20:16 and God’s commandment to never bear false witness.
Never mind the fact that the supposedly racist Trump is responsible for the lowest black unemployment rate in history, Opportunity Zones in poor black neighborhoods, record-high long-term funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and, of course, criminal-justice reform that has freed thousands of blacks unnecessarily incarcerated under Joe Biden’s 1994 crime bill.
Yet even if the authors’ claims regarding these policy differences were true, it takes an utterly depraved soul to argue that difficulties in accessing healthcare, or theoretical dangers of climate change, or even racism, are remotely as horrific as the intentional, violent killing of the most innocent and defenseless of all human life.
Each year, roughly one million preborn children are slaughtered in their mother’s womb, burned alive by harsh chemicals, or literally ripped limb from limb with cold, hard steel instruments of death. Given the choice of experiencing racism, poverty, or the inaccessibility of healthcare, one suspects nearly everyone would choose the options that don’t involve violent death and dismemberment.
But only one presidential candidate is fighting to give the preborn that choice.
Long gone are the days when liberal Democrats pleaded for abortion that is “safe, legal, and rare.” Today’s radical leftist Democrats demand taxpayer-funded abortion until the moment of birth, and some prominent Democrats have argued for killing babies even after they’re born.
Today’s Democrats, with Biden at the helm, oppose any restrictions on abortion whatsoever, including requirements for sanitary surgical rooms, and admitting privileges for abortionists at local hospitals in case the abortion is botched. They demand taxpayer funding for abortion and the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, the decades-old compromise prohibiting taxpayer funds being used for abortions.
And they are furious that President Trump is the most pro-life president in our lifetimes. In just three years, President Trump has nominated hundreds of pro-life judges to the federal bench, including two (soon to be three) Supreme Court justices.
He has stripped Planned Parenthood of $60 million in taxpayer funding, defunded the pro-abortion UN Population Fund, established an Office of Conscience Protections at HHS, sued states that violate the right of conscience, became the first president to speak at the March for Life, and signed an executive order protecting infants that survived abortions.
Biden claims to be a Catholic but says he is “not prepared to impose [his beliefs] on every other person.” Oh, really? Does Biden similarly refuse to impose his beliefs regarding pedophilia, honor killings, and female genital mutilation?
Such excuses are nothing more than grotesque moral cowardice.
Biden now toes the party line on abortion, on opposition to protections for biblical marriage, on religious liberty, gender issues, etc. Thanks to Democrats, America has witnessed the murder of 60 million preborn children since 1973.
Any Christian who claims to be pro-life and supports the Biden/Harris ticket is, to quote the Apostle Peter, “in the gall of bitterness.” Make the case for Biden if you can, but not as a Christian.
For pro-life voters there is only one choice — Trump/Pence.
