Last week, I gave you the numbers on the increased support among black male voters for President Donald Trump. Let’s see what Pam Keith, runner-up in a Florida congressional race, had to say about black male voters:

91% of Black Women voted for Biden because we love everyone

20% of Black Men voted for Trump because they hate Black Women

Somebody sounds a bit jaded toward black men who don’t agree with her. Be that as it may, Barack Obama chimed in on this topic as well. Regarding the black male vote increase for Trump, he said:

It’s interesting — people are writing about the fact that Trump increased his support among black men, and the occasional rapper who supported Trump. I have to remind myself that if you listen to rap music, it’s all about the bling, the women, the money. A lot of rap videos are using the same measures of what it means to be successful as Donald Trump is. Everything is gold-plated. That insinuates itself and seeps into the culture.

I guess the former president has forgotten how many rappers he filled the White House with on numerous occasions. Hip-hop culture was used to campaign for him and BET was a sponsor of events at the White House. How hypocritical.

Maybe I like the policies of the Trump administration, not gold chains, bling, and money. Maybe black men appreciate the lower unemployment rates during his first term or the Opportunity Zones in urban communities. Why would Obama insert a stereotype about black males as a means of demeaning their choice of vote in 2020? Black men can’t have a differing opinion unless it’s something negative that causes their way of thinking. The “Hope and Change” left black men hopeless with pockets full of change … as in pennies.

Obama went on to say, “America has always had a caste system — rich and poor, not just racially but economically — but it wasn’t in your face most of the time when I was growing up. Then you start seeing ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,’ that sense that either you’ve got it or you’re a loser. And Donald Trump epitomizes that cultural movement that is deeply ingrained now in American culture.” According to Obama, black men are trying to live out this fantasy of wanting to be like Trump’s “Rich and Famous” lifestyle. This is ludicrous. What if Obama turned black men off due to his policies that went way beyond his skin color? What if putting the LGBTQ community before the black community made black people think twice? Moreover, it’s easy for Obama to say while he lives in his million-dollar mansion in Martha’s Vineyard.

Black men are beginning to look at policies and how those policies affect them and their families. Lower taxes, smaller government, and the right to life and the pursuit of happiness are common themes that are attracting black men. Obama needs to understand that the strategy of identity politics has run its course with the minority community. No longer will we stand by watching from the sidelines.
