Insight

“Restless is discontent and discontent is the first necessity of progress.” —Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931)

Political Futures

“The same progressives who pushed for student loan forgiveness in the 2020 campaign are still pushing for it today. The problem is that they know they can’t pass such a measure through Congress. So they have been urging Biden to use his executive authority, in a way that would surely bring a constitutional challenge, to forgive student debt all by himself. Meanwhile, the nation has a sort of backdoor loan forgiveness policy in place in the form of a continuously renewed moratorium on payments. Those 2020 Democratic campaign promises have (sort of) been kept — there will be no student loan repayments from the presidential election through the midterm elections. … The Democrats’ political situation, with less than seven months to Election Day, is that the party is losing support among young voters. Democrats face the double problem of possible low turnout among young voters and still others abandoning the party — on top of the other groups leaving the party, too. … The president and his party desperately need young voters, who probably won’t be interested enough to turn out this November. Look for him to do anything to get their attention.” —Byron York

For the Record

“Nobody has actively banned anyone from wearing a mask. It is your choice to don one, as epidemiologically useless as such a gesture may be. But those on the Left seem to be under the wild misimpression that anything not prohibited is now mandatory — an act of pure intellectual projection springing from the Left’s insistence on collective rulemaking. For those on the Left, individual freedom represents a threat to everyone; to allow individuals the ability to choose therefore undermines the entire scheme. Those on the Left simply project this mindset onto everyone else. Thus, they believe that anyone who opposes mask mandates wants to force everyone to unmask.” —Ben Shapiro

“In the end, the Biden White House and its executive agency henchmen had to be forced to unmask Americans by the judiciary. Everyone should remember that come election time.” —Ben Shapiro

“Think about this for a moment: it took just one brave federal judge accurately applying the law to end a two year mask mandate on airplanes. True bravery is rare. God bless her.” —Clay Travis

“The people who are angry that Americans don’t have to wear a mask on a plane anymore are the same ones who want to end the Title 42 Covid rule for illegal immigrants.” —Senator Marco Rubio

Village Idiots

“We will respect the ruling, but as I say: I’ll respect the ruling, but I’ll follow the science.” —Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra

“I don’t give a d*** what some grossly unqualified Donald Trump judge said, I’m double masked and wearing goggles on this Nashville to DC flight. I had COVID in December. Y'all can KISS MY A** about me not wanting it again. And any fool saying they don’t matter is a d*** liar.” —journalist Roland Martin

“Wearing my mask no matter what non-scientists tell me I can do.” —former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett

“A prediction about masking: Soon we’ll be seeing many incidents in which those who choose to protect themselves with KN95s etc face harassment, even violence. Because this was never about freedom.” —economist Paul Krugman

Non Compos Mentis Awards

“The Republicans are essentially running on fumes. They’re running on the energy of 2020, which is the big lie. Democrats are running on an economy that’s roaring back, that is fighting inflation, that is helping the Ukrainians. Democrats will run on what they delivered. Republicans are going to run on the fumes of 2020.” —Democrat strategist Donna Brazile

“There’s just not much President Joe Biden can do about it. There’s not much he can do to curb inflation. There’s not much he can do to stop migrants from reaching America’s southern border. Or to reduce crime, or to make vaccine resisters get shots that would hasten the end of the coronavirus pandemic. There’s not much he can do to compel cooperation from defectors within his thin Democratic congressional majorities. There is nothing at all he can do to compel it from Republican adversaries who would rather aggravate than alleviate his burdens. In other words, there’s not much Biden can do about the heaviest weights depressing his political standing, which has remained stuck in the avalanche-warning zone for months. So his party faces the likelihood of a substantial November election defeat that hands the House and perhaps the Senate to the GOP.” —CNN’s John Harwood

And Last…

“Apple’s Pregnant Man Emoji is officially available … in every skin color. This way people of all races can show the world they failed biology.” —Jimmy Failla

“Leftist ideology is like mold. It grows best in the dark and unnoticed. If you let it grow too long, it will destroy your home. Gotta find it, shine a light on it, and remove it from every space you occupy, and make sure it doesn’t come back.” —Allie Beth Stuckey
