The Patriot Post® · Twitter Prepares to Interfere in Another Election
“Twitter is the place to find real-time, reliable information about the 2022 midterms — whether you’re looking for breaking news from reporters, information on voting, or policy positions from candidates.”
So begins Twitter’s announcement of the implementation of its “Civic Integrity Policy,” which, you’ll be happy to know, it’s activating just in time for the 2022 midterms. “We aim to enable healthy civic conversation on Twitter,” the shameless self-promotion continues, “while ensuring people have the context they need to make informed decisions about content they encounter.”
We don’t know about you, but there’s something deeply disturbing to us about the prospect of Twitter “ensuring people have the context they need to make informed decisions.” After all, it was Twitter that interfered in our nation’s previous election and helped rig it for the Democrats. It was Twitter that withheld precisely the context 160 million voters needed to make an informed decision about the stunning contents of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop computer, about his “money-for-nothing” influence peddling with a corrupt Ukrainian energy company and the Communist Chinese, and about his dad’s knowledge of and involvement in these corrupt schemes.
As we reported last week, Twitter justified its speech censorship and its outrageous suspension of users’ accounts as a means to “elevate credible information” and “help keep you safe on Twitter.” (When a Big Tech company says it’s trying to “keep you safe,” rest assured that it’s trying to keep you from hearing the whole truth.)
Twitter, in a statement, said it will “take action against misleading claims about the voting process, misleading content intended to intimidate or dissuade people from participating in the election or misleading claims that may undermine public confidence in elections outcomes.”
You know, just like it took action against Hillary Clinton for saying that the 2016 presidential election was “stolen” from her.
Just like it took action against perennial candidate Stacey Abrams for falsely and continuously claiming that she won the Georgia governor’s race against Brian Kemp in 2018.
Just like it took action against current White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who tweeted that Donald Trump had stolen the 2016 election from Clinton and that Kemp had stolen the 2018 Georgia election from Abrams.
Twitter’s rule on contesting close elections is thus pretty simple: If you’re a Democrat, go right ahead. If you’re a Republican, though, prepare for the Trump Treatment™. Prepare for a lifetime ban.
Of course, Twitter’s malfeasance extends beyond elections. Take Joe Biden’s recent Twitter boast — the one where he said, “July’s 0% inflation and last week’s booming jobs report underscore the kind of economy we’re building — an economy that works for everyone.”
Our Nate Jackson called him out on this ridiculous lie, and columnist Becket Adams wondered about the lack of a Twitter sanction: “His inflation statistic is so remarkably misleading it is indistinguishable from an outright falsehood,” writes Adams. “Inflation in July remained unchanged at 8.5%. It was not 0%. Yet, for reasons not entirely clear, the president’s account has not been suspended for spreading an obvious and intentional misrepresentation. It is unclear whether Twitter has even issued him a warning. Naturally, there is no label affixed to the president’s tweet, alerting social media users to the president’s willful distortion of fact.”
So, can Twitter be trusted? Nope. Not even close. Not regarding politics, not regarding elections, not even regarding your health and well-being. We’ve known for a couple of years now that the platform has been doing the bidding of the Biden administration by running interference for the first family’s corrupt business dealings. But now we know that Twitter has also been censoring truth-tellers regarding the administration’s bald-faced lies about COVID-19. Fox News’s Tucker Carlson pointed this out last night: “We do know that when [author and former New York Times reporter] Alex Berenson started to post fact-based challenges to the lies Joe Biden was telling about COVID and then the COVID vaccine, the White House commanded Twitter to silence him. And Twitter soon did that. And we’re not speculating about what happened; there are written exchanges that prove what happened.”
As Carlson further noted: “It’s been pretty obvious for a while now that tech companies are acting at the behest of the White House when they censor people, but no one has been able to prove it. Alex Berenson just did. He has proved the White House encouraged Twitter to knock him off the platform. That is censorship. It is against the First Amendment. It’s illegal.”
Berenson, who now writes at Substack, announced last month that he and Twitter had reached a “mutually acceptable resolution” that, among other things, prompted the reinstatement of his heretofore permanently suspended Twitter account. That’s quite an achievement.
But Berenson isn’t done yet. Having taken Twitter to the woodshed, he’s now suing the Biden administration on First Amendment grounds. “I think I have proof that they violated my First Amendment rights,” he told Carlson last night, “forced Twitter to act as a paid actor, essentially an arm of the federal government.”
Everyone who reveres our nation’s First Amendment should be rooting hard for Alex Berenson to prevail against the Biden White House and to very publicly out both the administration and Twitter for their speech-suppressing collusion.
Otherwise, be prepared to say only that which Twitter wants you to say.
