Political pundit Ben Shapiro warned this week that Republicans are balancing on a knife’s edge. The anticipated red wave may not happen due to two particular events, and these events largely speak to women voters. First and foremost was the Dobbs decision and the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The second instance was the Mar-a-Lago raid.

TargetSmart CEO Tom Bonier commented in a social media post: “We are seeing early signs of what could lead to a huge increase in women voting in November. … This surge is young and female.” And according to Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick, these young women are angry.

On the issue of abortion, some women — clearly forgetting that Democrats hold the majority in the House and Senate — are angry because they have been told that an essential right has been taken away from them by men in power. As our Thomas Gallatin pointed out: “Truth, even the most objective truth, is not universally accepted, and thus the issue of abortion, even what it actually is, is far from universally understood. Much of the reason why abortion is still such a controversial issue is because it has long been erroneously characterized by abortion advocates as a ‘women’s health’ issue and politicized as such by Democrat politicians.” As a result, women — totally disregarding the unborn child or the man who helped conceive said child — are inclined to think that men should have no say on this issue since it is their health that is up for debate.

Instead of being affirmed in the fact that children are blessings from the Lord, these angry women have been told that they will now be victimized again by being “forced to give birth” to children they either didn’t want or who were conceived in horrible circumstances such as rape or incest. They are angry because easy abortion access meant that they could settle for the free love culture — a lifestyle that is of no benefit to women who thrive off loving, committed relationships. They are angry because, though they may have never considered abortion for themselves, their friends should have the right to choose.

The Mar-a-Lago raid could turn this election into another referendum on Donald Trump instead of on Joe Biden and the crazy radical leftists who are dragging our country into the pits. Even while in office, Trump was not a popular figure among the average suburban housewife. The tension between the Right and the Left raised dramatically under his presidency — though this was likely due more to Trump pointing out how crazy the progressives are and the media losing its collective mind as a result. Women have been told by no less an authority than former President Bill Clinton that “one thing [Trump] does know is how to get angry white men to vote for him.” And angry white men are the greatest threat to democracy … at least that’s what MSNBC and CNN have told them.

Many of these angry women voters have been allowed and even encouraged to let their feelings run away with them. It is only to the benefit of the radicals that these women’s outrage is fueled. If they are too emotional and angry, they are more easily manipulated, more easily lied to, and their ability to think logically is severely impaired. (This is not strictly a women’s problem, but as more emotional creatures, women are certainly more susceptible.) This tendency to let our emotions get out of control is what has led to the insane celebration parallax — anything my opponent thinks is bad I now think is good regardless of what the truth is.

Conservative columnist Dennis Prager recently wrote:

Raising good men was the most important thing society could do. If it doesn’t, the male propensity to physical aggression and predatory sexual behavior will wreak havoc. Therefore, raising boys to control their natures is fundamental to society avoiding chaos. Over the course of a lifetime, however, I have come to realize that while society was right about males, it was wrong about females. Whether spoken or unspoken, most people thought that girls just didn’t need to be raised to control their natures nearly as much as boys did. But they do. It’s true that females are not inclined to violence or predatory sexual behavior as men are. But this hardly means that girls and women don’t have to learn to control their natures. On the contrary, as I have been telling parents for many years now, they need to teach their daughters to control their natures just as much as they teach their sons to do so. Specifically, girls have to learn to control their emotions.

He is absolutely correct. His thinking is also biblically grounded. The Bible has very clear warnings about the dangers of excess emotion. Here are some examples:

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” —James 1:19-20

“Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.” —Proverbs 29:11

“But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.” —Colossians 3:8

There are many other references to the necessity of controlling our emotions, but it all amounts to the same basic thing: The lack of emotional control leads to foolish and ungodly behavior. These are good words to live by and canny advice, but the Left in general and young women in particular have been encouraged to ignore this ancient wisdom.

Pointing out this truth is not enough. When a person is angry, he or she cannot listen. It is essential to figure out a way to diffuse that anger; otherwise it’s going to be an ugly midterm election.
