The Patriot Post® · Tillis-Sinema: A Bad Immigration Bill
President Joe Biden’s willful deconstruction of America’s southern border has led to a crisis of historic proportions. At least five million people have illegally entered the country since he took office. The largest caravan on record just crossed this week. Crime along the border is at record levels. Border Patrol and regional law enforcement are swamped and unable to handle the surge. And with illegals being shuttled around in the dead of night to hide their numbers, nearly every state in the union is now a border state.
Never fear, though. Senators Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona have come to the rescue with a bipartisan bill to fix the immigration debacle. On second thought, go ahead and fear. Tillis, a Republican, and Sinema, a former Democrat and recently avowed Independent, have not delivered us from disaster. Instead, they have merely done what Congress has done before: paper over the current crisis and lay the groundwork for a greater problem down the road.
The Tillis-Sinema plan calls for a pathway to citizenship for two million young illegals shielded by DACA — the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. These are the children who were brought to America by their illegal immigrant parents as anchor babies but were codified by the Obama administration with the sweet-sounding “Dreamers” moniker.
The bill also calls for more resources for border security, fast-tracking removal of illegals who haven’t sought asylum in one of the countries they crossed to reach the U.S., and extending immigration enforcement measures put in place during the COVID lockdown.
This so-called bipartisan fix is being lauded as the solution to our border problems. The amnesty provision, which presumably exists only to get Senate Democrats to support the measure, is destined to fail. Ever since the disastrous Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, amnesty for illegals currently in the U.S. has only led to more illegals coming into the country. Back then, there were an estimated three million illegal immigrants. Biden by himself has let in at least five million since he took office less than two years ago, adding to anywhere from 11 million to as many as 20 million or more already in the country. The Democrats’ message is clear: Come to America illegally and hold tight for a few years because eventually Congress will pass a law that allows you to stay.
The other portions of the Tillis-Sinema bill are also farcical in nature. Why, for example, is it necessary to hide under the guise of arbitrary CDC edicts to prevent illegals from coming into the country? And why do so many in Washington believe that increased border funding, which has been stripped by Senate Democrats, will solve the problem? The border crisis has grown too big for that. What is called for is a fundamental restructuring of border policy — something Democrats will never support.
The Border Patrol needs the authority to capture and remove illegals on the spot. We need to get back to work securing the physical border, whether it be with a wall or with electronic frontiers and sensors that alert agents to movement. Barriers work, plain and simple. Law enforcement and the courts also need the tools to chase down, arrest, and prosecute the human traffickers and the drug runners who are shoveling fentanyl into the country and killing off part of an entire generation of America’s youth.
On the other side of Capitol Hill, the House is currently considering the EAGLE Act, a bill that will supposedly relieve the strain on our country’s visa system. This too will only cause more problems. The EAGLE Act removes caps on the number of individuals seeking visas in the U.S., allowing any number of immigrants from anywhere to apply. The immediate beneficiary of this policy would be China, which would flood the application system with Chinese nationals, an untold number of whom would be agents of the Chinese Communist Party and who would then be one step closer to permanent U.S. residency.
No half-hearted bipartisan bill crafted in the final days of a lame-duck congressional term will fix our border woes. This crisis was deliberately manufactured by the Biden administration. Unfortunately, it’s also fully supported by companies looking for cheap labor, as well as leftist nonprofit groups that want to increase our nation’s already disastrously high number of cradle-to-grave dependents.
In short, the Tillis-Sinema bill is bad news for American Liberty.
Update: As of a day after this article was posted, it looks like the Tillis-Sinema bill is dead. We get results!
