Nancy Pelosi doesn’t miss being speaker of the House. She doesn’t miss the limelight, the perks of power, or the attention. And she loves living the “simple” life of a San Francisco one-percenter. Or at least that’s what she recently told the New York Times’s eminent shrew, columnist Maureen Dowd.

Dowd turned their long and expensive lunch into a 4,000-word puff piece that is so sickeningly sweet that anyone who reads it ought to get tested for diabetes. Yes, we’ve taken one for the team and read it so you don’t have to.

It stands to reason that a female chauvinist like Dowd would be the scribe to write such a glowing tribute to Pelosi. She prattles on about the former speaker’s courage during the January 6 riot, about how Pelosi said she would punch Donald Trump in the face if he showed up at the Capitol, about how she never wavered or lost her cool. Of course, Dowd skips the part about how Pelosi refused to beef up Capitol security after being told of possible threats during the Electoral College certification. Also missing are any musings about how Pelosi’s own inflammatory rhetoric might have contributed to the tense situation in the lead-up to that day.

Dowd is a limousine liberal cut from the same cloth as Pelosi, so it’s no mean journalistic feat for her to sing Pelosi’s political praises. As the former speaker waxed poetic about her political career, dropping names and cherry-picking accomplishments, never once did Dowd challenge her on any of it. The breathless mentions of Pelosi’s role in getting ObamaCare passed failed to include any questions about why healthcare is more expensive and more mismanaged than ever. Apparently, Dowd, too, believes we had to “pass it to find out what’s in it.”

Pelosi’s hypocrisy went unchallenged when she essentially laid the loss of the House at the feet of New York Governor Kathy Hochul for not getting tough on crime. “The governor,” she complained, “didn’t realize soon enough where the trouble was.” Republicans flipped three New York Democrat-held seats in the last election, among them that of Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Sean Patrick Maloney. Of course, the Dems’ refusal to admit that the crime wave they unleashed with their anti-police rhetoric came straight from the top, thanks to the work of Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Pelosi spoke briefly of the October attack on her husband, Paul, in their San Francisco home by deranged illegal immigrant nudist David DePape. Her daughter, Alexandra, divulged that Pelosi had priests come and do an exorcism of the house. An odd request to make for a self-professed Super Catholic whose support for the unfettered killing of unborn children is well documented. Perhaps the attending priests had first thought that Pelosi might have been concerned for her own soul. Nope, just the lovely multimillion-dollar home she shares with her husband, the savvy investor whose stock picks surely don’t have anything to do with his wife’s position in national politics.

Dowd, like most of the media, didn’t press the issue of the attack, details of which were completely silenced, along with any reporter who dared follow up. More might become known in the coming weeks, though, after a California judge recently ordered 911 audio calls, police body-cam footage, and home surveillance video be made public.

Dowd’s piece won’t be the last word on the former speaker. There will certainly be more fawning over San Fran Nan from other Leftmedia sources. The best we can hope for, it seems, is for an honest accounting of history — one that will someday set the record straight on Nancy Pelosi.
