The Patriot Post® · Unmasking the Real Goals of DEI
We’ve all heard of the Left’s DEI agenda by now, but we might argue it’s better to organize those leftist buzzwords this way — Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity — because it makes the acronym DIE.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion as historically understood could all be laudable goals as part of a bigger picture in a plural society such as our own. But each of those perfectly serviceable English words has been grossly distorted by “progressives” who are never done trying to redefine and undermine our national culture. Indeed, they seem to want that culture to die so their preferred utopia can rise in its place.
Earlier this week, our Thomas Gallatin explained Joe Biden’s recent executive order to “to root out ‘systemic racism’ within the federal government.” In short, Biden plans to “root it out” by discriminating against whites and in favor of minorities. That’s what the Left always means by “equity.”
Similarly, “inclusion” and “diversity” now mean objectives like, for example, ensuring certain skin colors are more prevalently represented in college admissions and the cockpits of major airlines — never mind any unpleasant consequences, you MAGA racist.
The overwhelming number of Americans want people of all races to succeed. We want to realize the Declaration’s promise of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The radical Left wants to hold back whites in order to advance results for minorities in the latest iteration of Marxism.
As the editorial board of the Washington Examiner argues, “The goal of DEI is to make every issue a racial problem.” (Just like everything is a class problem under communism.) Counting by race is not the way to ensure equality, of course, but equality is not the Left’s goal.
Thus, it’s not enough to point out that DEI is hypocritical or that it “won’t work.” On the contrary, the hypocrisy is the point, and it’s working exactly as intended.
How do we know it’s hypocritical? Because diversity of thought is not allowed. Equity in the old sense of blind justice is blocked. Inclusion of a broad political spectrum is verboten. Coexist? Please. Hence the redefinition of those words.
How do we know it works? Because the media has been touting a “winning streak” for Joe Biden. There’s even more talk about him mounting a reelection campaign based on this success.
Political analyst Jonathan Tobin puts it this way:
This Biden victory narrative is not just missing a more sober perspective that would point out that most of his alleged victories are, in fact, not so much wins as they are examples of avoiding complete disaster or outright defeats. What those touting his winning streak are really cheering is the way his administration has faithfully done the bidding of his party’s left-wing base. With his abandonment of the country’s southern border, the hijacking of legislation that was supposed to address inflation and collapsing infrastructure but instead poured funding into the Democrats’ climate change projects, and the takeover of the government by exponents of the DEI — diversity, equity, and inclusion — racialist catechism, what Biden has given Americans is more or less what they feared would be the result of a Bernie Sanders presidency.
Precisely. Many Americans were fooled into voting for Biden in 2020 because he was sold as the steady hand, the experienced centrist — and not Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump. Instead, Biden has governed so far to the left that White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre yesterday Freudian slipped about an announcement from “President Obama.”
Then again, we are talking about KJP, who holds her job thanks to the qualifications of being black and lesbian. Don’t take our word for it, either. She practically admitted as much: “I want to take the opportunity to lay out … how diverse the president’s cabinet has been, how diverse the president’s administration has been. The cabinet is a majority of people of color for the first time in history. The cabinet is a majority female for the first time in history. A majority of White House senior staff identify as female. Forty percent of White House senior staff identify as part of racially diverse communities. And a record seven assistants to the presidents [sic] are openly LGBTQ+.”
Here’s an amusing episode regarding the media and DEI success, though. Writing recently about all the DEI training in the workplace, New York Times opinion writer Rose Wong asserted, “There’s little evidence that many of these initiatives work.” But it also is working, according to … The New York Times. Its “The Morning” newsletter last week argued that “research shows that students learn more in diverse groups and employees are more productive.” Yet the research it referenced proves Wong’s point. Learning and productivity don’t increase, though students and workers are able to repeat the indoctrination.
That leads to the final point: DEI is as politically brilliant as it is destructive. Democrats divide people primarily by race or sexual preference and claim to advocate for each group. When Republicans inevitably object, Democrats scream “racist!” and “bigot!” Those labels, no matter how flagrantly untrue, are tough to overcome among voters who’ve been convinced that “Democrats fight for me.”
So, is DEI a failure? Not in accomplishing its actual intended purpose, which is why it’s so important to keep fighting against it.
