Trump’s indictment: Donald Trump flew to New York yesterday to face the charges being raised by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Today, Trump will be indicted with a litany of charges that the vast majority of legal experts believe to be weak and motivated by a purely political agenda. Trump for his part has used the occasion to strengthen his own political position, as he has raked in over $7 million in donations since the indictment was announced. Unless the judge places a gag order, later today America will learn exactly what the charges against Trump are.
The Supreme Court’s 2A muscle: Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last summer in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, a ruling that overturned New York’s law severely limiting the right of citizens to carry firearms, several Democrat-controlled states have found their gun control agenda significantly hampered. In Bruen, precedent has been established that a court must judge whether a law restricting firearms comports with the framers’ intention for the Second Amendment. In other words, SCOTUS has effectively elevated the Second Amendment once again as the standard by which all firearm laws are to be judged. This is a positive development in light of Joe Biden and radical leftist Democrats calling for banning so-called “assault rifles.” Bruen also opened the door for more lawsuits against states that have made a practice of infringing on Americans’ 2A rights.
$90K tuition and student loans: How have government-backed student loans negatively impacted students? Well, these low-interest student loans have proven to jack up tuition costs. Nowhere is this reality more evident than in Ivy League schools, as annual tuition is now as high as $90,000, which puts the cost for gaining a four-year degree well into the $300,000 range. As American Enterprise Institute economist Beth Akers observes: “At some point, that math stops working out. We get to a place where these degrees are just no longer worth it.” And this is exactly why Joe Biden is pushing his student loan cancellation program, though it will only send tuition costs higher, with the federal government sending taxpayer dollars to bail out these increasingly overpriced educational institutions.
Fetterman shows up: Pennsylvania Democrat Senator John Fetterman finally emerged from his stint at Walter Reed after he checked himself in over a month ago with severe depression. Now back in Pennsylvania, Fetterman sat down for an interview with CBS, which was clearly intended to show that he’s back and can do the job of being a senator. However, it was evident that Fetterman is still suffering ramifications from the stroke he had while on the campaign trail last year. CBS’s Jane Pauley not only glossed over Fetterman’s challenging health situation but went over the top by insinuating that he could run for president someday. Then again, maybe Pauley’s view isn’t such a stretch given the reality of who is currently sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Black Chicago conservative says ditch Democrats: Devin R. Jones is a black Navy veteran and native of South Chicago, a majority-black Democrat stronghold, where back in 2000 he founded the Southside Republicans. His organization’s motto is “Fix Where We Live.” Jones makes clear that Democrats and their policies are at fault for why things are so bad for blacks living in South Chicago. “We haven’t had Republicans running this area for 100 years,” he observes. Jones wants black residents to explore what Republicans have to offer, especially when it comes to limited government, hence his organization’s motto. Hopefully, Jones and others like him will see success in convincing more of the folks in their neighborhoods to see past the Democrats’ rhetoric and vote for real change, even if their choices are limited in today’s mayoral election.
