It’s no secret that Disney has in recent years devolved from being a family entertainment company to a primary vehicle for grooming kids into the gender-confusion cult.

From adding a same-sex kiss to the background of a movie to making major characters in its cartoons LGBTQ to having its parks host “Pride Nights” and even stop referring to “ladies and gentlemen,” Mickey Mouse’s Not-So-Magic Kingdom is a far cry from the generally wholesome family fare of yesteryear. That’s what makes the company’s lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis so sadly predictable.

It also comes perfectly timed with the leak that DeSantis will announce his presidential bid next month.

First, a little background. Disney jumped in the fray against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law last year, voicing opposition to what the Leftmedia deceitfully misnamed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The legislation used the word “gay” zero times, focuses on age-appropriate sex education generally, and is aimed at preventing teachers and other public school staff from grooming children.

Instead, the law included numerous elements that “reinforce the fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children.” Such things are necessary in an age where our creepy president declares: “There’s no such thing as someone else’s child. … Our nation’s children are all our children.”

But the media would rather pretend the Florida law is an assault on the free speech of the gender-confused.

Because Disney became so overtly political on behalf of Democrats, DeSantis and his fellow Florida Republicans decided to take a second look at that uniquely sweet governance deal Disney secured for itself in the Sunshine State back in the 1960s. The Reedy Creek Improvement District agreement essentially allowed Disney to act as its own quasi-government.

Republicans tend to be pro-business, but not when a business is using its unparalleled privileged position to advance the opposing party’s ideological goals.

The Florida GOP opted not to dissolve the district but rather to give the governor the power to appoint its board members. Disney then tried an end-run around the Florida law by transferring power from that board to others in the company. That too was thwarted, however, so now the company is suing DeSantis for having “orchestrated at every step” a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power” to punish Disney.

According to the lawsuit, “The government action was patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional.” Unfortunately, a remarkably anti-DeSantis judge assigned himself the case.

There’s certainly debate over DeSantis’s tactics, but there’s no question that most Americans are tired of woke corporations pulling the levers of power themselves, weaponizing even entertainment itself, for the cause of leftism and especially the gender cult.

Media portrayal isn’t the only thing working against DeSantis, either. Nikki Haley, who’s also a GOP presidential candidate, apparently couldn’t help but use the lawsuit for some attention-grabbing headlines. “My home state will happily accept your 70,000+ jobs if you want to leave Florida,” Haley tweeted at Disney Wednesday. South Carolina is “not woke, but we’re not sanctimonious about it either,” she added. That was about as obvious a reference as possible to Donald Trump’s sophomoric nickname for the governor: “Ron DeSanctimonious.”

So let’s get this straight: Instead of standing with parents and kids, Haley is taking the side of woke Disney and pandering to Trump, all to get a shot in at DeSantis. It may be a lame attempt to appear to be pro-business, but it’s not a good look in the present cultural moment.

For his part, DeSantis brushed off the “political” lawsuit, saying that Disney will just have to “live by the same rules as everybody else” because Florida is committed to “not picking winners and losers.”
