The Patriot Post® · Why Send the Military to the Border?
Title 42 is officially ending on May 11 and border cities in Texas, Arizona, California, and New Mexico are declaring a state of emergency. Title 42 was a COVID-era policy that gave border agents authority to turn away migrants.
There are thousands of illegals waiting in Mexico to attempt to cross the southern border once the policy is up. One source reported that authorities anticipate 15,000 people to cross illegally after the 11th. Another calculated that in Juárez, Mexico, alone, there are 10,000-12,000 migrants waiting to cross over. Still another article suggests that border cities might be facing “10,000 illegal crossings a day once Title 42 is no longer in effect.”
The Defense Department therefore is preparing to send 1,500 more personnel to the border.
At this juncture, it is worth pointing out that in 2018, when Donald Trump sent 5,000 troops to help actually secure the border, then-Senator Kamala Harris called the Republican president’s actions “inappropriate” and “political.” For leftists, consistency is a foreign concept.
Under President Joe Biden’s watch, however, these 1,500 troops would be helping only with administrative tasks and transportation, not actually stopping illegals from entering the country. In other words, this show of force is really a Babylon Bee quip: “Biden Deploys 1,500 Troops At Border To Help Register New Voters.” He’s turning satire into accurate accounting.
Our southern border humanitarian crisis, which already has migrants loitering in American streets, is expected to reach a fever pitch. Even with Title 42 in place, we have migrant children being exploited, high death rates for desperate migrants, and dangerous criminals and floods of fentanyl entering the country. Unless there is a concerted effort on Biden’s part to close and secure the border, all he is doing by sending troops is documenting his own failings as president.
None of the progressive Democrats are getting it. Sanctuary city mayors in Chicago and New York City are begging Texas Governor Greg Abbott to stop busing migrants.
Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said, “Let me be clear: Our border is not open.” This assurance was given on April 28, days before an illegal alien murdered five of his neighbors. This man was deported multiple times previously and was, despite Mayorkas’s manifestly false boast, easily able to get back in again.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre perhaps made the most stunning claim of all, saying, “When it comes to illegal migration, you have seen it come down by more than 90%, and that’s because of the actions that this president has taken.”
We know this is not true. As The Washington Free Beacon reports, “Law enforcement has recorded more than seven million migrant encounters on the southwest border since Biden took office, the most in United States history.” The most in U.S. history… Jean-Pierre should have said that we have seen a 90% increase. That might have been closer to the truth.
The reality is that leftists don’t really see what they’re allowing to happen as evil. They don’t see their misinformation as lying. In their philosophy, there is only power and those with the will to wield it. They also believe reality is what you make it, so they tell their lies with swagger.
However, House Republicans do have a majority and some power to help temper some of this horror at the border. Perhaps House Speaker Kevin McCarthy can put together some bills to help stem the tide at the border, as these border crossings affect the general public. Perhaps a bill that particularly targets illegals who have criminal records or ties to terrorist organizations or the cartels. This bill might even include provisions for a database specifically for those who have already been deported once so that there are consequences for being caught stateside again. They could call it “Banning Assault Illegals.” Perhaps even some Democrats might sign on to the bill.
We brace with all of the border towns as May 11 draws near.
