Here’s a suggestion for reducing the flow of illegals across our border: Treat them to a Third World hellhole far worse than the ones they’re fleeing.

Indeed, treat them to the Tenderloin district of Gavin Newsom and Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco, where the leading occupations are drug abuse, homelessness, and mumbling unintelligibly at passers-by.

Quick quiz: How can you spot the government employee in the Tenderloin? Answer: He’s the one wearing the haz-mat suit and hosing human waste down the sewer. (Admittedly, it’s a crappy job, but someone’s got to do it. And don’t laugh: Even back in 2018, these poop patrollers were making bank — nearly $200,000 a year in salary and benefits, and that was before Bidenflation kicked in.)

This brings us to the aforementioned Governor Newsom, the Democrat shadow presidential candidate who’s not-so-quietly auditioning for the job should his party’s powerbrokers find a way to Vaudeville-hook both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris off the stage. Newsom, as we’re learning, doesn’t like being made sport of — especially not by governors far more successful and popular than he is.

In a tweet yesterday addressed to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Newsom squealed: “You small, pathetic man. This isn’t Martha’s Vineyard. Kidnapping charges?”

He then linked to a page from California’s penal code, through which he tried to imply that DeSantis is guilty of kidnapping. Specifically, as the statute notes: “Every person, who being out of this state, abducts or takes by force or fraud any person contrary to the law of the place where that act is committed, and brings, sends, or conveys that person within the limits of this state … is guilty of kidnapping.”

Here, we’d remind Newsom of another tweet he sent — this one to then-President Donald Trump in 2018: “Let me be clear, @realDonaldTrump: California is a sanctuary state. We believe in the power of diversity. We have defied and resisted the xenophobic, hateful policies of your administration at every turn. We will do it again.”

So much for Democrats and “diversity.” When leftists come unhinged, they say and do the stupidest things.

Newsom’s threat to DeSantis, as The Washington Free Beacon reports, “came after a first private jet arrived Saturday in Sacramento from New Mexico with 16 illegal migrants from Venezuela and Colombia onboard. A second flight arrived midday Monday, reportedly carrying 20 more migrants. It is not confirmed whether DeSantis is behind the flights, but the migrants reportedly were carrying Florida state government paperwork.”

In Newsom’s defense, though, he’s right about one thing: California ain’t Martha’s Vineyard. The former is a lawless leftist dystopia, and the latter isn’t, largely because it has abided by Rule of Law and sensible governance. Oh, and it’s also worked diligently to keep the unwashed masses out — otherwise, the Kennedys and the Clintons and the Obamas wouldn’t be living there.

As it stands, then, what DeSantis spokesperson Taryn Fenske said last September about the governor’s equity excursions to the Vineyard holds true for California: They’re part of Florida’s illegal immigrant relocation program to “sanctuary destinations.” As Fenske noted, “States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden administration’s open border policies.”

It appears that the satirists at The Babylon Bee are picking up what we’re laying down. “What kind of heartless bully would load migrants into a plane and send them to California, of all places?” said an angry Newsom in a statement from his private banquet room at The French Laundry. “We don’t even have water, electricity, or housing here! Whoever is doing this is inhumane. No migrant should be forced to live in a state with so many problems.”

Clearly, Gavin Newsom loves diversity in the abstract. But when the cold, hard, desperate reality comes up and punches him in the face, he squeals like a stuck pig. Perhaps he should take a page out of New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s book and invite these illegals to live amongst the people. In their homes.

After all, what could be more “diverse” than that?
