Can Tim Scott bring the country together? Can anyone bring the country together?

That’s what folks in the middle may be wondering as the 2024 presidential campaign ramps up and the Republican primary adds candidates. (Obviously, many others in the GOP understandably want retribution and to defeat and humiliate the other half of the country. That’s another story.)

Last week, we wrote of South Carolina’s black Republican senator being a plantation fugitive because, instead of thinking how white leftists tell him to, Scott thinks for himself and decided to be conservative. It came up because Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Whoopi Goldberg of “The View” had all attacked him as a man who “doesn’t get” racism, which they claim is why he’s a Republican. Their racist vitriol was completely over the top, and if any conservative had said the same thing about a black Democrat, he’d be run out of town on a rail.

Honestly, the flap can only help Scott because it provides him with a platform to show that he’s a better person than the women of “The View.” On Monday, in fact, he joined them for a discussion — notably without Behar, who’s off on Mondays.

Hostin in particular barely tried to mask her utter contempt for Scott as she sat beside him and asked loaded questions. “When it comes to racial inequality,” she said, “it persists in five core aspects of life in the U.S.: economics, education, healthcare, criminal justice and housing. At nearly every turn, these achievements were fought, threatened and erased most often by white violence. You have indicated that you don’t believe in systemic racism. What is your definition of systemic racism?”

As he began to answer, she interjected, “Or does it even exist in your mind?”

But Scott, we think, got the better of the argument.

“One of the reasons why I’m on the show,” he replied to Hostin, “is because of the comments that were made frankly on this show that the only way for a young African-American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule. That’s a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today that the only way to succeed is by being the exception.”

He went on to list many blacks who’ve held leadership positions from police chief in his town to president of the United States. He argued that while we haven’t arrived at the final destination or the full realization of the American Dream, there has inarguably been “progress in America” as evidenced by his own life and the others he pointed to.

He said, “I believe America could do for anyone what she’s done for me: restoring hope, creating opportunities, and defending and protecting the America that we love.”

When Scott argued that indoctrination of kids with LGBT stuff shouldn’t be happening in schools, the audience began to boo. Hilariously, Goldberg chastised the audience because “this is ‘The View’” and all opinions get a hearing. Besides, contempt is reserved for the hosts.

As for Behar, way back when she was 29, she dressed up for a Halloween party as a “beautiful African woman.” Scott referenced that while talking with Fox News’s Sean Hannity later about his appearance on “The View.”

“Can you imagine an extreme liberal elitist telling me how to be a black man in America when she’s a white lady who dresses up in blackface?” Scott asked rhetorically. “I can’t believe the hypocrisy that comes out of that show sometimes.”

We can. They’re leftists.

In any case, Scott keeps making his argument for his candidacy and for America itself.

“We are a meritocracy. Your talent, your character, your grit take you as high as you’re willing to climb. But according to their policies, they take the first three rungs of the ladder out,” he said. “Making sure that we remain the freest, fairest land on God’s green Earth is my objective. And I’m so thankful that I have the blessing of running for president in the only country where this is possible.”

“And frankly,” he added, “the truth of my life disproves every single lie from the pit of hell that we’re hearing from the radical left.”
