Narcissism and Tyranny -- The Consequence of Executive Egocentrism

Self Service Masquerading as Public Service

By Mark Alexander · May 31, 2012
“He that falls in love with himself will have no rivals.” –Benjamin Franklin, 1758

Paraphrasing the ancient Chinese warrior Sun Tzu: To defeat your opponent you must know your opponent and know yourself.

If our generation of Patriots is to succeed in our mandate to extend the blessings of American Liberty to our posterity, then we must both know the depth of our devotion to Liberty and understand its enemies. Indeed, we must fully comprehend those adversaries beyond topical categorization by political and other affiliations.

Our nation was founded by Patriots who devoted their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to Liberty for all. They truly understood the nature of “public service” as opposed to “self service,” the former defined as the giving of oneself for the greater good as opposed to the latter defined as the taking for oneself to the detriment of anyone or anything else.

In our Republican context of governance, the spirit of public service was and remains essential for the advancement of Liberty, while the consequence of self-service has always been irrevocably linked to tyranny.

Our generation of Patriots understands this distinction, and we are steadfast in our fidelity to the higher calling of Liberty. However, this fraternity of dedicated Patriots has always been, and will likely always be, in the minority – which is to say we must each resolve to give our all. As often noted, Samuel Adams wrote, “It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”

In the generations since our founding, Liberty has suffered excessive insult by the rise of men who, under the banner of “public service,” are motivated principally by self service – and the greater the drive toward self service, the greater the threat to Liberty.

Recent history records the ascension of politicians who were incontrovertibly motivated by self service masquerading as public service – Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Albert Gore, John Kerry and John Edwards, to name a few. All of these men share tragic family histories, which indelibly imprinted them from birth. Each also has a common diagnosis for his behavior: Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

Post Your Opinion: Why is NPD epidemic among Leftists?

Understanding this pathology is key to defeating our opponents who manifest it.

By definition, narcissists are deeply insecure and, consequently, have an unrelenting need to be admired by others. Their low self-esteem is often imprinted from early childhood, and for many it is associated with ineffective fathering or worse, parental abandonment. Narcissists have a grandiose sense of self and of entitlement, and they have an excessive dependence upon others for self-definition and self-esteem regulation. Though they may project an image of great confidence, it is nothing more than arrogance pretending to be confidence in a cover-up of their insecurity.

I certainly would not suggest that all children with tragic family histories are destined to develop NPD. But executive offices in both the private and public sector are frequently occupied by those driven by narcissistic pathology, those whose motivation to achieve is characterized by a lust for power and avarice, rooted in broken self esteem and the resulting obsessive need to be accepted by others.

The most malignant form of narcissism is accompanied by intelligence and charisma, which enables the deception of others in order to secure positions of power and influence.

No executive in American history has provided a more textbook archetypal case study of Narcissistic Personality Disorder than Barack Hussein Obama, who embodied the pathology of the Left and successfully deceived the masses with his intelligence and charisma. Notably, he unwittingly outlined this deception in his second autobiographical book, “The Audacity of Hope,” writing, “I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views.”

Like all narcissists, however, Obama’s life is a lie.

To confirm that assertion, one needs look no further than his official White House biography, which begins, “His story is the American story – values from the heartland, a middle-class upbringing in a strong family…” There is no doubt that Obama wanted, and indeed deserved, that upbringing, but to assert that he had it could not be further from the truth.

And to further confirm the audacity of Obama’s narcissism, we need only examine his adulteration of the official White House Historical Association biographies of prior presidents, where Obama has inserted his name and some related “achievement” into the historic narratives of presidents dating back to Calvin Coolidge.

For example, the “Did You Know?” section at the end of Coolidge’s bio has been altered to read, “On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a public radio address to the American people. President Coolidge later helped create the Federal Radio Commission, which has now evolved to become the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). President Obama became the first president to hold virtual gatherings and town halls using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc.”

See if you can spot the impostor in these other presidential bios:

“On August 14, 1935, President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Today the Obama Administration continues to protect seniors and ensure Social Security will be there for future generations.”

“President John F. Kennedy famously suggested the American people: ‘Ask what you can do for your country.’ In 1961, the Peace Corps was created, facilitating service among citizens working toward peace in developing countries. In 2011, President Obama celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps with a Presidential Proclamation.”

“In 1973, Richard Nixon created The President’s Export Council, which was expanded and reconstituted under President Jimmy Carter in 1979. Today the PEC continues to work towards reaching President Obama’s goal of doubling the nation’s exports by 2014’s end.”

“President Reagan designated Martin Luther King Jr. Day a national holiday; today the Obama Administration honors this tradition, with the First and Second Families participating in service projects on this day. In a June 28, 1985 speech Reagan called for a fairer tax code, one where a multi-millionaire did not have a lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling for the same with the Buffett Rule.”

“In 2002, President George W. Bush’s State of the Union was the first to be live broadcast on the Internet. In 2011 and 2012, President Obama’s State of the Union speeches were available in an enhanced live stream version that featured infographics, charts and data side-by-side in real time with the President’s speech.”

Of this audacious adulteration, Ronald Reagan’s former Attorney General, Ed Meese, concludes, “What they have done is to spoil the integrity of the historical narrative.”

Post Your Opinion: How can Romney challenge Obama’s NPD?

In advance of the 2012 election, Obama has framed his tenure in office as “public service.” But he is pathologically incapable of serving the public ahead of himself. In order to spoil the integrity of his narrative, we must fully understand his unmitigated narcissism and thoroughly expose the grave threat that his self-interest poses to Essential Liberty.

Everything about Obamao is fraud, deception, and lies. The true historical narrative of this traitor should finish with, "He is the first American President to be charged and convicted of treason, living out his life as a traitor to the Republic, with his fellow jihadis, incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay Cuba". That is a story I could get behind!

The Conservative establishment must make it thier mission to take all the actions of Obama, on which the MSMedia does not report the bio alterations, and plaster them all over the tv targeted at real "main stream, middle class" Americans. If the American people knew what the writers and readers of this blog know about Mr Obama, he would NEVER get re-elected. Let's shed the spotlight of truth on Mr Obama.

The only things I want to know about this illegal presdient is: Where he was born, what is his true SSAN (one from Connecticut isn't it), what is in his college transcripts and is he identified as a foreign student when he entered college? Otherwise he is an illegal and since he doesn't want to reveal his birthcertificate is probably a muslim as well.

One would have to think that the intelligence services of the country KNOW all about the mysterious documents that Obama and his coterie keep as a secret from the American people. If this is the case, then these agents are complicit in the biggest, most serious deception in our history.

I disagree. All you have to do is show footage of the Obamas on vacation, together with a table showing how many days Air Force One has been out of the hangar for presidential vacations compared to several other presidents, and the amount of taxpayer funds spent supporting the same. Next to that, show the amount of the national debt at the end of each former president's term, and the amount at the time the ad is made. Most people will get it right away.

I am astounded that with so much mud that flies over the President, it never crosses the lips of the one man who HAS to say it. Gov. Romney. Yes, he addresses the economy. Yes, he says the size of Government and debt is too high. But, honestly. Is it personal enough to paint a picture of utter failure and arrogance this President has. Does it really show in stark contrast the lies, the misinformation, the refusal to hear the people and the stomping of the constitution? Does he paint that arrogant picture with Eric Holder colors? Is he really using all the ammunition at his disposal? I'm concerned because Gov. Romney is a nice guy and if nothing else, a gentleman with a business acumen. But right now with the country in a tail spin....we need a fanged warrior who does NOT play games, bend on knees to liberal idiocy, and embrace the suck. Not an easy job.

Make Obama meet personal attacks based upon questions directed at his own version of his history. A narcasist can't stand attacks on his image of himself. Since he cannot afford to view himself realistically, he can only defend that self image by personal attacks on those criticizing him. You can see that in his campaign already.. At a certain point his responses will be so far out as to totally discredit him as a person.,much less a leader.. As he already views the whole situation as a personal attack.,he must be personally attacked more not less This isfrom personal experience.

People with NPD, as you mentioned, are in desperate need of validation. They seek associations with people who will accept them, and those people are seldom the "in" crowd. They migrate to groups of minority opinions and adopt those opinions in order to be accepted.

Conservative groups tend to be far better at spotting people afflicted with NPD, even as early in life as grade school, and avoid welcoming NPD cases to the fold because they are aware of the problems that will be caused downline.

NPD is a compensatory structure that a liberal superimposes on their highly fragmented internal world in order to provide a sense of integration and stability in their lives to cover feelings of inadequacy and emptiness. At heart, they realize the fallacies inherent in their world views and seek to regain much-needed esteem through aggressive assaults on others' views, denial of any dependence on others, and usually totally devoid of logic and marked by self omnipotence.

I think the best thing Romney could do in a debate is to find a way to really make Obama angry. He will get off script and we will then see the temper that I see reflected in his eyes sometimes. His ego can't withstand criticism and he will become defensive. The audience will see the real Obama materialize before their eyes.

I don't have a precise recipe for how Romney should do it, but Romney's general strategy should be to utilize the fact that narcissists are hopelessly blind to their narcissism. Because of this, it should be possible to goad Obama into publicly demonstrating his condition. The current flap over the "Polish death camps" remark would be a good example of an opportunity. With the Polish government and Chief Rabbi of Poland saying an apology is called for, Romney could stress how Obama "owes" them an apology. Since, in Obama's mind, he's above that sort of thing, his refusal will rub salt in the wound and make his grandiosity more readily apparent. It would further highlight the personality difference between Obama and Romney. As Obama sounds more and more like a megalomaniac, his demonizatioin of Romney will fall on deaf ears.

As I have often said, a political system may be characterized by the kinds of people it elevates to positions of authority.

Unfortunately, we have erected a system that tends to elevate narcissists and sociopaths. The problem is not that "leftists" tend to mental pathology, because so can "rightists". The problem is the system that promotes such people, and, also unfortunately, that is any system that uses popular elections. It was to avoid elevating such persons to the position of president that the Framers adopted the electoral college system, but that has been subverted by using popular election to select slates of anonymous electors pledged to a candidate. We need to move to a different method, and that method is called "sortition", which involves random selection at various phases. Do a web search on the term. The Venetians used it for 529 years to select their chief executive officer, called a Doge. A similar system could be used to select members of Congress and judges.

Sometimes the best reforms are not something new but something old that has been proved to work.

Gov. Romney needs to get some grit and pull off the soft gloves! He needs to expose Obama's instances of inferiority, aggression and hatred, envy, rejection, humiliation, and incompetence and csall the spade a spade. Work on his "sensitivity" to criticism; show concrete examples of his failures to grasp reality. Remind him continuously of his obligations (failed), oath (ignored), and role (misused) as President.
