The Brushfires of Freedom

· Thursday, November 5, 2009

"It does not take a majority to prevail ... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." --Samuel Adams

A year ago, the election of Barack Hussein Obama was an egregious affront to our national legacy and a clarion call to action for many good citizens who honor the rights and obligations of liberty.

In November 2008, it was difficult to accept that a majority of our countrymen had fallen into such a stupor that they could be lulled by the dullard droll of "hope 'n' change"; that they could be conned into electing an inexperienced charlatan, an unapologetic socialist, to the office of president.

At the time, Obama's politically moderate supporters scoffed at the charges of socialism, but unlike Bill Clinton, who ran to the center after being elected, Obama has run as fast and far to the left as possible, just short of publicly declaring our Constitution null and void.

Too many Americans have been complacent about liberty, believing it to be their birthright and the birthright of generations to come. They have enjoyed the fruit of liberty defended by others, taking rights for granted and knowing nothing of the obligations for maintaining that blessing. Most Americans have never had to fight for liberty and, thus, have little concept of its value or any sense of gratitude for its accumulated cost -- a cost paid by generations of Patriots who have pledged their Lives, their Fortunes and their Sacred Honor.

I encourage you to take heart, though, because change is coming, and not the variety proffered by Obama and his ilk.

There is a groundswell of conservative activism rising up across our great nation, as citizens are awakening to this ominous threat of constitutional adulteration and tyranny. Citizens are speaking out for liberty at public forums, attending grassroots "Tea Parties," making a stand for Liberty.

The first real political results of that uprising were manifest in the elections of Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie to the executive branches of the states of Virginia and New Jersey, respectively. Each of these men vanquished a Democrat opponent for whom Barack Obama had extensively campaigned, and each had done so in a state that Obama had easily carried a year earlier. McDonnell's 18-point victory in Virginia, for example, represented a 25-point turnabout from Obama's 7-point margin in 2008.

Even the loss in New York's 23rd Congressional District, which pitted Doug Hoffman against Democrat Bill Owens, was heartening. Despite Leftist "Republican" Dede Scozzafava withdrawing from the race and endorsing Democrat Owens rather than Hoffman, despite Democrats and the misguided Republican "leadership" spending more than $2 million against him, Hoffman ("C" for Conservative Party) almost won. Owens took 48 percent to Hoffman's 46 percent, with Scozzafava, whose name was still on the ballot, receiving 6 percent.

The restoration of constitutional Rule of Law is on the horizon, but it will reach landfall only if our growing tide of conservative voices makes it so. We cannot undo generations of civic negligence in one or two election cycles, but we can, no, we must halt this downward spiral, and the crisis we find ourselves in now presents a great opportunity for the future.

The burden of bearing the flame of liberty has always fallen upon an "irate, tireless minority."

If there is one thing that distinguishes you, as a Patriot Post reader, from the majority of Americans, it is the spirit and character that you share with hundreds of thousands of other Patriot readers "keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men."

Thank you for your strength, preparedness, vigilance and faithfulness.

Like many of you, I have devoted my entire adult life to the mission of ensuring individual liberty, restoring constitutional limits on government, and to promoting free enterprise, a strong national defense and traditional American values.

I have raised my hand seven times in the service of our nation, affirming and reaffirming my oath to "support and defend" our Constitution.

For the last 14 years, I have had the great privilege of working with an extremely talented and dedicated group of editors and staff in our publishing office and around the nation. Together, we have taken The Patriot Post from its humble beginnings to the most highly acclaimed "voice of constitutional conservatism" on the Internet.

Since 1996, The Patriot has been on the frontlines of the battle to restore constitutional limits on government and the judiciary -- and millions of Patriots have joined our ranks in the last decade. Please note that we don't just "preach to the choir." Though our primary mission has been to provide grassroots leaders across the country with the proper constitutional construct for tackling critics on the Left, we now reach a much broader audience.

Because The Patriot is distributed without charge, our message of liberty is reprinted, forwarded and reposted by hundreds of thousands of our subscribers so that it is available to millions of others.

While we have now won several skirmishes, there are formidable battles ahead, and we must redouble our preparations for the oncoming fight.

Now, those who know me personally, as you might surmise, would not describe me as being "touchy-feely." (In fact, when I hear the jingle "reach out and touch someone," I start by estimating windage and elevation ... but I digress.)

That notwithstanding, I do in fact care a great deal about the welfare of our editors and staff, and their families.

For that reason, I ask that you take a moment and consider their dedication and sacrifice.

From very early mornings, to very late nights, to working vacations and weekends, they work tirelessly and sacrifice much to research, write, compile and edit every issue, all under tight deadlines.

And, for their valiant efforts, your Patriot staff receives only modest compensation for their relentless pursuit of our mission, and they rely upon your generosity to help us provide our product, free of charge, to countless thousands of our military, collegiate, political and mission field readers.

So, it is with the urgency of our times and devotion for our staff that I announce our 2009 Annual Fund campaign is under way. We typically raise a full 50 percent of our publishing revenues in the last eight weeks of each year, and we must raise approximately $325,000 to cover our operating expenses.

If you have not already done so, I humbly request that you take a moment to support The Patriot online today by making a contribution -- however large or small. (If you prefer to support us by mail, please use our Printable Donor Support Form or print the donor guide below.)

As long-time Patriot readers know, we don't dwell in a shiny office building at a fashionable address inside the DC Beltway, nor are we sustained by any political, special interest or parent organization. We do not assault your senses with online or e-mail third-party advertising. Our mission and operations are funded by -- and depend entirely upon -- the voluntary financial support of American Patriots like YOU.

As always, I thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you as editor and publisher of The Patriot. We are humbled to count you among our readers. On behalf of our National Advisory Committee and staff, thank you and may God bless you and your family!

Semper Vigilo, Fortis, Paratus et Fidelis!

I appreciate President Obama's unabashed leftist stance. Unlike former President Clinton, he is allowing us to see his true colors. Even when he chooses equivocating language, his actions allow us to see that he is a socialist. This lets the nation see the truth about the Democrats and react appropriately, rather than be confused by the obfuscations of President Clinton, who was no less socialist - just less activist.

Mr. Alexander,

I think a situation exists that has needed correction for far too long.

Calling the Democrat Party the "democratic" party is a serious mistake and the conservatives have bought into it hook, line and sinker.

In my opinion, "democratic" is a subtle, but highly effective tool used by the left to persuade the semi-literate population that voted en-masse for Obama that the "Democratic Party" is the only party that is pro-America. Think about it. "Democratic" is a process. Democrat is a political affiliation.

I am not aware of too many people registering as "democratics" I believe the label should be appropriate in whatever conservatives write and say. It is Democrat, not Democratic. The psychological leverage is immense.

Thank you.

As part of the conservative movement, I think there are many who need to be re-educated out of the 'entitlement' mentality. A great deal of the nation's resources are diverted to those unwilling to be productive, and the Liberal politicians court those as 'guaranteed' votes at election time.

I just read the letter from Mr. Alexander. I have always enjoyed the straightforward way his messages are delivered. In my mind there is no doubt about where this man stands and why. My respect and support will always be available to this publication.

Now, after reading the really neat comment about windage and elevation, I'm going to the range.

Thank you,

My wife says I have a mania about reading conservative newsletters, blogs, etc. Whatever I have, I think the Patriot Post is outstanding in its presentations. It addresses the facts in a straight-forward, honest way, without degrading those who need criticism. I am happy to support your efforts with my meager contributions.

I know that this is not an urgency sisuation but what ever happened to the petition to hold Kerry accountable to his lies=== I think all the congessmen and women need to be called down for there out right lies no matter who they are including Obama..We have become a nation of leaders that have no morals and lie so much that they believe they are above having to answer for them

I for one would like to see all the lies brought to the attension of the American people so they can see what they have fallen for..

What is truth? Behaving like God intended us too

4000 years agoe the people sucumed to Pharaoh just like they are today and if the all patriots don't cry out to God in unison we will be slaves to the (self appointed Messiah..

Mark, thanks for all you (and your staff) do for the cause of liberty. I cannot possibly continue to read the Post without contributing my portion.

One question, though - are donations tax-deductible?

Posted November 5, 2009 at 1:18:26 PM

Editor's Reply:

The Patriot Post is a donor-supported publication (in order to remain free of charge for students, military personnel and those in the mission field). We have not elected tax-exempt status in order to prevent government regulation of our editorial content.

Jim

Mr. Alexander,

While I'm glad you are saying what you are saying, there is no way I'll donate to you. You've come aboard too late to the liberty movement. You had your chance during the previous election cycle to prove that you are not all words. You let true conservatism down. Not as bad as Newt who supported the establishment RINO. Well so did you. McCain, Rudy, Huckbeee and even Fred Thompson were all frauds. Albeit Thomspon not as bad as the rest. I'll send my donations to true patriots.

Going to a tea party is great. Wearing a tea bag on your shirt, blouse, or coat is a constant thing. Every morning when I pin mine on, it reminds me to pray for our country and its leaders, and during the day it tells everyone around that I am unhappy with what our leaders (?) are doing and where they are trying to take us.

I get more comments and questions because of that tea bag than any other method I have seen.

Wear yours.

Regarding citizen activism, let's plan the strategy. I propose:

1. Recall of unfit elected and appointed officials via the means allowed in those states which have recall.

2. Reactivating the Tea Parties next April on the same day (April 18, Patriot Day) with rallies on the steps of every state capitol. Use the same theme for them all: Restore constitutional government, root out corruption.

3. A massive tax protest on April 15.

4. A national work stoppage for one day next April 15. Show Congress and the White House who's really running the country.

I think it would be a good idea for any candidate that is too conservative to run on either the Republican or the Democratic ticket to run on the Conservative Party ticket, the Tea Party ticket, or the Conservative Tea Party ticket.

I am a registered Republican, but the GOP is too liberal for me. What do you think?

You guys are the best. I can do without to donate $26.00 just because your mission is so important. Seriously, if I had it, I'd personally donate the entire $325,000.00, just so you could have a chance to reach that many more people. It sickens me when I ask someone if they've heard of Van Jones or ACORN, and they look at me with a blank expression. Most people that I meet are too busy trying to earn a living to pay attention to what's happening in this country. IF they even bother watching the "news", it's probably NBC, or CBS. It really just sickens me that this administration can get away with so much and almost no one makes a sound. I knew that Obama would be bad for the country, and I tried to convince as many people as I possibly could, however I had NO IDEA HOW BAD this guy really could be. It's unbelievable. And he still blames Bush for his every move.

To "Jim". I'm curious exactly what true patriots you're going to send you're money to. Is there someone who can reach more people? Is there some other organization that's exposing the lies and corruption? Is there someone else out there who is providing patriotic quotes, columns and news, and trying to organize people? If so, who are they?

The groundswell of patriotic conservatism now building in our country is like a gentle spring breeze that comes after a long hard winter.

It reminds me of the early days of WW11 when we gathered around the family radio hoping for some good news, which rarely came during 1941 and 1942. When the tide finally began to turn in our favor it raised the spirits of all of us and gave us hope for the future. I have that same feeling now.

we would do well to remember that even the smallest of lights shine clear in the darkest of times and while these aren't yet the darkest of times they are increasingly darker, and we who love Truth must continue to share our love for Truth until the lies we have been lulled into are fully dispelled. Because we are all just men, we are all, no matter how "conservative" we claim to be, subject to corruption in some way or another...let us take heed so that thinking we stand we do not trip and fall.

Mark...

I too have raised my hand and repeated the oath, only to be filled with rage when we found that we were under the UN (spit)

I took those ribbons and battle stars off the uniform and put them in a metal box for forty years.

When we patriots enlisted at age 17 to "save our moms from the commie hordes" and eagerly took that oath to defend the Constitution against ALL ENEMIES, foreign and domestic, we certainly did not join to serve the New World Order.

GOD bless you.

I believe that many people now realized that they were duped into voting for a faux President. We now see that he is not a Democrat and his agenda is not to protect and preserve the Constitution.

I also believe he would not be elected again without ACORN'S fraudulent assistance. That said, with the vast numbers that make up ACORN, and its extended are, SEIU and 300 subgroups, all being federally funded, how can we expect a fair election as these left wingers grow bigger and thus more powerful?

ACORN and her fellow nuts are this administrations "army" so how do we stop this web that is spun from getting wider?

It is a true pleasure to receive this and to know that there are those that still believe that their oath of office was a lifetime commitment not just a short term promise. I am a firm believer in the fact that when I swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic that it was for life and I will continue to believe that until the day I die, I have raised my children to believe it as well and taught them the Constitution of the United States even when they were not taught it in school. Why hasn't anyone tried ti get recall elections going against those that are trying to destroy this country? I have heard no calls for it and have seen no petitions have we all forgot that we can get rid of these nim-rods once and for all or is it that we have become that apathetic. Hopefully you can get this idea out and remind people that we do have a choice and can do something about it but we must act now.

I am concerned that we are not hearing enough about Obama's plan to sign the Coopenhagen Treaty which it is my understanding allows the undermining of our Constitutional freedom.

There seems to be no information on the street about what this Treaty is about. And, the general public is unaware of what is on the verge of happening.

I would like to see The Patriot begin to get the information about this Treaty into media circulation.

While we must stop the nationalization of HealthCare, there are other threats such as this Treaty that are moving forward.

Alexander, I have to ask you, did you get the title of your last e-mail from the e-mail I wrote that asked why? And why it was not questioned? I wrote a nice e-mail and sent it to every Veteran Site and every other site I belong to, and I sent it to you. I am not asking out of any mean streak, but out of respect, because if you did, then I am very honored, and if you would or would like to, you may feel free to repost it, if you so choose. And I to, have taken that oath about 5 or 6 times myself. The first time was when I enlisted in the Regular Army, then after my discharge, I did it year by year until I became to disabled to remain in the National Guard. I am a Vietnam Veteran and I have cancer related to Agent Orange, plus many other symptoms from AO as well. Oh, and I look forward to reading this e-mail each time I get online. But the main reason I am writing to you is, do you know of an expert in Constitutional Law that I could call to talk, about a case that I want to take to the United States Supreme Court, and sue for oh maybe 250 million? I really think I have a great case, if I can talk to someone. I do have a fax, and I would also need his fax number as well as him contacting me or I him, either way is workable with me. My home phone is 518.587.4757. Did you actually read the e-mail I sent out from my desk as an addition to one I recieved on the net?

The God Owful Party still hasn't learned anything, even after the vote Tues. Just heard on the news that better than 400 in the House voted to expand unemployment compensation. 12 voted aginst. I can't find any section of the Constitution that gives the government any authority to steal (what else would you call it) funds from me and give to someone else. With the infiltration of communists into the Republican party (Duh Duh Scozzafava), it seems that it is time to initiate a viable new party called, perhaps, the Constitutionalist party, whose agenda would be to nullify unconstitutional laws and restore our country to it's greatness of days gone by.

The Patriot Post is an awesome conservative read that I always look forward to and I appreciate that it is dedicated to the memory of our great former president, Ronald Reagan. I am honored to support Mr. Alexander and his staff in his efforts and I consider them irreplaceable to our constitutional republic and our continuing freedom. (Your ad-free presentation is also a definite plus).

I can sense a deep patriotic current running through the pages of the Post, one which would not hesitate to physically defend our republic if needed. Know that many of us among your subscribers feel a kinship with you in that respect.

In these dark times with the ominous specter of socialized medicine, cap and tax, nationalizing of car companies, endless bailouts and clunker programs (even one which would give a tax credit to someone wanting to purchase a SECOND home)I look forward to your mailings and try to read every word. Please continue to be our beacon and shine the light of truth in each dark corner.

Thank you again!

As a US Navy Cold War and Vietnam-era veteran, and retired law enforcement officer, I have served this country with pride and, were it not for my age, I would continue to do so. It is with sadness and disdain that I see what is happening to our once proud republic and how it is being turned into a socialist nanny-state with so many entitlements and pork-barrel spending. I am apalled at the way the dems believe they have to redistribute the country's wealth and make everyone "equal". Its right out of Karl Marx's playbook. I weep for this country. If the American people don't wake up soon, it may be too late to reverse this downward spiral our country is taking, and more importantly, too late to save our freedom and liberty.

Again, I find myself in a quandary relevant to the hot topic of the day: health insurance. My daughter married last year to a young man who was formerly the head of his own small construction co with a fab 10-year contract for a development of mansions on a lakeside (I refer to it as Millionaire Island), which the economy blew right out of the water. I take great pride in my new son-in-law, who went out and looked until he found a job for which he was well-prepared, and fortunately required two days of overtime (a mixed blessing, to be sure)...and made the cut when lay offs came, now being sent off occasionally for a week at the time to work out of state, which is a real confidence builder.

My daughter is uninsured, however, so we are pulling together as a family to see that my wife, with health issues of her own (that don't keep her from her job) and cuts to state employee insurance plans (less coverage/higher deductible; her doctor notes that if her treatment - which has been effective beyond expectations - didn't work, that this new deductible would be knocked off in just a very few visits for what would come next.

God has been merciful. (My wife learned of a new doctor after losing faith in her former doctor... and my daughter drives halfway across the state to see the same doc, after going through 3 state university hospitals - including Duke - with few positive results; both are now doing better, but the "road goes on forever," or so it seems.

I share the feelings expressed in your email post today (11 6) and wish I could give financial support to a number of conservative sites that I treasure for truth in the face of mendacity replacing the promised hope and change, a "bait and switch" routine. We can only hope that the change is unsatisfactory, as I see us heading on down (not starting, but continuing) the road to serfdom. George Soros is NOT my favorite person in the world.

I take a couple of hours every day to stay informed, which ONLY the Internet provides. (Okay, Glenn Beck gets a lot of details out, while FNC has some other opinion makers with whom I often agree...but they report stuff - or sometimes don't - that I read on the Internet a day or so before.)

I don't seek to get this posted on your site, but write to let you know that it is only because you are available for free that I can read your columns and other features, both learning and laughing. I print some stuff out for my wife, including the Davy Crockett piece you ran recently.

I suspect that there are others in pretty much the same situation: love to contribute, but family comes first. This is no apology; charity does indeed begin at home, at least in OUR home.

I will include you and your staff in my prayers for the blessings that you provide (if you all seek redemption through the Son, I've been praying daily for you for quite some time now). While we are not having the time of our lives, neither are we as bad off as some...for situations beyond their control, through no fault of their own.

I have read that if one finds oneself in quicksand, don't panic...simply swim back in the direction whence one came. We're all in quicksand, although some worship a false idol in DC.

May God bless us, each and every one, and deliver us from evil, for it is at our doors.

TO: Mark Alexander

I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments and those of others in The Patriot Post. Not infrequently I share the articles with a small group I belong to on Saturday mornings. Most of the men, unlike myself, are retired. All of us share a strong love for our country and a passion to protect our conservative heritage from the damage being done by progressive liberals and the large number of fellow countrymen that remain apathetic or numb to what has been taking place over the past 40 years.

God Bless you and all those working with the Patriot Post.

I haven't seen anything posted about the elleged meeting that Obama is to attend in Copenhagen in December. Supposedly this is a climate control plan with a hidden agenda to give up our soverienty.

No one is commenting on this. What have you heard?

Your staightforward posts are refreshing.

I have become disheartened with the 'Republican' Party with the lastest actions and views of Lindsey Graham and Newt Gingrich and others. I have long respected Newt with his historical and political perspective, but his lack of support to a conservative agenda begs me to wonder what is happening to our party.

Question----

What end roads are you making into the college/universities to deliver your message? We need a grassroots effort to inform the college age. There are many college Repubican organizations now becoming very active. We need to support them.

I would normally be glad to contribute to such a worthy cause, except that as a result of past contributions to other such worthy causes, I have continued to be solicited endlessly, not only by those to whom I contributed, but by the manifold others who purchased my address from the contributees.

"Windage and Elevation----" Yes, yes! Gun control? Of course---it is important to hit what you aim at!

Not appropriate in this instnce! We replace our ammo with the ballot! The problem of those who adore, and defend, the Constitution is to overcome the multi-year ingressions of those that would, are attempting,(and accomplishing!)the repeal of that precious document. (eg; HR 45, only one instance)2009 (elective results) procalim the mood of the people! 2010, with continued rebellion, will oust the Statists, commence restoration of the rule of (Constitutional) law, and the restoration of the Republic! I continue to affirm, will defend, with my life, that "Oath of Allegiance" to this Republic.

Just so you know........

I never received Thursday's Essay until late Friday when I received two (2) of them with different headings. I still have not received Friday's digest. Also weirdly I received a Saturday quote which is generally reserved for Monday through Friday.

I was able to print the Essay and Digest from the archives. But perhaps others have the same predicament.

Bless you.

In the gubernatorial elections of Virgina and

New Jersey, it must be remembered that the forces

of the younger generation and black African Americans were absent from these two elections.

These two groups, which had voted across the board

for hope and change, now ignored or were too lazy

to vote for the governorship of their respective

states, allowing for the conservatives to win out.

To Jim: (post Nov. 5,2009@1:20:38PM)

Jim,

I'm a little confused with with your comment regarding the Patriot Post's coming aboard to late, to the "Liberty Movement". They've been publishing superior commentary for 14 years. How is that "to late"?

In my humble opinion, it sounds to me like you are refusing to donate to the Patriot Post over the Scozzafava caper. Additionally, you are still mad about McCain being nominated. Well, so are allot of us out here .... but we have to move on.I am still reeling from Fred Thompson not running, but you know something Jim, he probably is better off having not kept his name in the hat. (that's him being better off .... not us)

Direct your anger towards the local Republican organization in the 23rd. district of New York for backing her and the Obama administration, for having the temerity to dilute the candidacy of Rep. John McHugh, who resigned after accepting President Obama's nomination as Army Secretary.Had McHugh remained in that race, there would be one less Democrat in the Congress right now. (of course, you can't blame John for accepting this opportunity .... his first responsibility is to his family )

The Scozzafava candidacy is just that .... a caper. And, the Republican Party or G.O.P. and the RNC, in concert with the local powers, are the usurpers of liberty. Not the Patriot post. They are the ones who derailed the election of conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Well Jim ..... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! God bless the Patriot Post.

ACORN Sues Over 'Unconstitutional' Funding Cuts By Congress. Yahoo News

The audacity of this despicable, corrupt, welfare cuddling, illegal organization!

"We the People" should bring a counter suit against ACORN and congress for the illegal use of our tax-payer dollars.

Does anyone think a counter-suit would have merit and be allowed? After all, it would be more legitimate than ACORN's suit.
