Our Shorts Are in a Knot!

The Senate is getting ready to vote on the first of many new anti-gun Bills.  Senator Schumer’s “Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013” (S374 RS), concerns all gun sales or transfers and pertains to forcing States to submit to the NCIS all the names of each State’s citizens who need to be added to the database for mental illness or criminal prosecutions. It also covers monetary fines to non-complying States and escalates if they fail to toe the line as ordered. There is $100,000,000.00, yes that’s 100 million, earmarked just for this Bill’s enforcement and establishment. Like most Federal programs this won’t be enough money, so we’ll need more later. However, school kids can’t visit the White House, because the government is broke? This is only the beginning. The Senate has new Bills for banning large capacity magazines, illegal gun trafficking, straw purchases of legal guns and even a Bill for school security. They’re just warming up; Sen. Diane Feinstein’s Assault Weapon Bill is in the wings, still. They don’t want to scare anyone, yet.

This whole issue, like the Gay Marriage issue, is all based on getting our emotions so high that our shorts are in a knot. The emphasis is on emotions and how can anyone say “NO” to a child. “Do it for the kids” is the same argument in both cases. Perhaps we should add kittens and puppies, also to kindle our warm and fuzzy inner selves? The real ploy is to get as much through the legislators while the anti-gun hostility is still a tinderbox. President Obama is campaigning in Connecticut and Colorado at public forums to give support to Bills forcing more gun control on law abiding citizens. Washington Post writer, Dana Milbank, was crying in his latest article, because Washington has taken so long. The emotional edge of ramming gun control through has lost its momentum. He wants President Obama to force something through. What are they really trying to do? They want your guns, just like the media defined “wacko NRA” have been saying all along. They’re just starting.

The NRA has a 9 page memo titled, “Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies”, which is believed to be written by Greg Ridgeway, Ph.D., statistician for the Justice Department, as reported by the AP Press on Feb. 23, 2013. Concerning “Background Checks”, Dr. Ridgeway wrote “Effectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchases, requiring gun registration….” It just makes sense, doesn’t it? How do you know if anyone is a straw purchaser unless you know exactly who has what guns and at a later date, make a physical check to insure that they still have the gun in their possession? Will they need a court order? We’ll need a lot more Federal Judges and Federal prosecutors. All the while those poor school kids can’t see the inside of the White House; but maybe we’ll get rid of all of those darn guns, right? Oh wait, I’m using children to politicize this.
