"Were the pictures which have been drawn by the political jealousy of some among us faithful likenesses of the human character, the inference would be, that there is not sufficient virtue among men for self-government; and that nothing less than the chains of despotism can restrain them from destroying and devouring one another." --Federalist No. 55
Moppin' on upThe Demo-gogues
Nanny state: "Now, to the non-Democrats who may be watching today, I want everybody to know we believe in a strong and loyal opposition. I believe in a two-party system, where ideas are tested and assumptions are challenged, because that's how we move this country forward. But what I reject is when some folks decide to sit on the sidelines and root for failure on health care, or on energy, or on our economy. What I reject is when some folks say we should go back to the past policies when it was those very same policies that got us into this mess in the first place. ...[Y]ou know, I'm busy, Nancy's busy with our mops cleaning up somebody else's mess. We don't want somebody sitting back saying, 'You're not holding the mop the right way.' Why don't you grab a mop? Why don't you help clean up? 'You're not mopping fast enough. That's a socialist mop.' Grab a mop. Let's get to work." --Barack Obama
A little advice: "Well, now, first of all, I did get elected president...." --Barack Obama, who should remember that he did ask for the responsibility next time he wants to blame someone else
More finger pointing: "It is absolutely clear that it is an unsustainable situation as we go forward, and it is well known to the public that the health insurance companies are the problem." --House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
That's what we're afraid of: "We are laying a foundation to build on and create a new economy. We [as a government] have an overwhelming obligation." --Vice President Joe Biden
Hope overflows: "Counting the numbers of troops is not going to define our success here. ... There is no military success ultimately to Afghanistan." --John Francois Kerry, who served in Vietnam
Skewed view of winning: "Does it really take 100,000 troops to find Osama Bin Laden? And how much will this cost? How much in terms of more dollars? How much in terms of American blood?" --Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), who is apparently not aware that Afghanistan is more than a game of capture the flag
Editorial Exegesis
"Politicians of all stripes routinely spin facts and logic so fast they make the rest of us shake our heads in bemused wonder. Then there are those rare occasions when a prominent politician says something that clearly deserves a place in the Political Chutzpah Hall of Fame. President Obama earned a place in the pantheon with his Saturday radio address. 'It's smoke and mirrors,' he said. 'It's bogus, and it's all too familiar. Every time we get close to passing reform, the insurance companies produce these phony studies.... The fact is the insurance industry is making this last-ditch effort to stop reform even as costs continue to rise and our health care dollars continue to be poured into their profits and bonuses and administrative costs that do nothing to make us healthy, that often actually go toward trying to figure out how to avoid covering people....' Before Obama goes much further bashing the health insurance industry, let's review what Obama said during the 2008 presidential campaign. He made two promises that attracted crucial support from independents. He promised 'a net federal spending cut' and to 'cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers.' But from his first day in the Oval Office, Obama has been on a spending binge of such unprecedented magnitude that the federal deficit this year is more than $1.4 trillion, or nearly three times what it was under George Bush in 2008. If Obama's health care reform plan becomes law, the deficit will be even bigger. As for cutting taxes, that is a topic Obama assiduously avoids these days because he is too busy pushing massive new federal programs that will indirectly add thousands of dollars to the costs of living for virtually every American family, through more expensive health insurance premiums, skyrocketing gasoline and utility bills, and higher prices for food and other consumer goods. In view of these facts, it is impossible to avoid the conclusion that Obama's campaign promises were just so much ... smoke and mirrors. Not only were Obama's bullying remarks Saturday harsh and hypocritical, they also sounded desperate, shrill and divisive. Not what one expects from a president promising bipartisan reform." --The Washington Examiner
Upright
"Non-presidential contests often go badly for the party in power, and there are indications that 2010 may be even more painful than most. The extremely high turnout among African-Americans that marked the 2008 race is unlikely to be repeated without Obama on the ballot. Democrats in general seem less enthusiastic this time than Republicans. ... Election maven Charlie Cook envisions 2010 as the year of the 'angry white seniors' as older voters turn out in force to oppose health care reform. Much can change in a year of course. But for now, the tide is running very much against the Democrats." --columnist Mona Charen
"The Administration has decided to start a fight to re-energize the base. It doesn't do any good to fight with someone who is not worthy, if you want to make this strategy work you have to have the fight with someone your base already knows -- and already hates. Fox News Channel fits that bill. If Obama can make the point stick, that Fox News is not 'news', and gets his base to buy into the theory that Obama is the victim of unfair coverage, it gives the White House a rallying point. I don't think it's having the desired effect." --political analyst Rich Galen
"The problem with Iran is its regime; its nuclear program is merely a symptom of that problem. Do you lay awake at night worrying about Britain's nuclear weapons? France's? Israel's? Of course not, because stable democracies in general, and stable democratic allies in particular, aren't a threat. If your neighbor is an upright and responsible citizen, who cares if he has a gun? If your neighbor is a complete whackjob and criminal, you sure as Shinola care if he has a gun. Armed neighbors aren't a problem, dangerous ones are. The same logic applies to nations." --columnist Jonah Goldberg
"Twenty years ago this fall, the Iron Curtain was coming down in Europe. Across the Warsaw Pact, the jailers of the Communist prison states lost their nerve, and the cell walls crumbled. Matt Welch, the editor of Reason magazine, wonders why the anniversary is going all but unobserved: Why aren't we making more of the biggest mass liberation in history? Well, because to celebrate it would involve recognizing it as a victory over Communism. And, after the left's long march through the institutions of the west, most are not willing to do that. There's the bad totalitarianism (Nazism) and the good totalitarianism (Communism), whose apologists and, indeed, fetishists can still be found everywhere, even unto the White House." --columnist Mark Steyn
Dezinformatsia
Pollaganda: "Fifty-seven percent of Americans approve of the way [Obama is] handling the responsibilities in commander in chief. Now the big question going forward is: Will those numbers survive the decision on sending troops to Afghanistan which could come in the next couple of weeks?" --ABC's George Stephanopoulos
"Only 20 percent of the country now consider themselves Republican. That is the lowest level of support in 26 years." --ABC's Charles Gibson, who missed that 26 years ago was just before the Reagan landslide of 1984
Eat your heart out: "Talk radio, especially conservative talk, is so powerful, some say it's made our country viciously partisan. Ten of the top 11 radio talk shows are conservative. The king? Rush Limbaugh, with 15 million [sic -- 20 million] listeners." --CNN's Carol Costello
Back alleys and coat hangers: "Based on his 14-year record as a lawmaker -- a record dominated by his focus on incendiary wedge issues -- we worry that [Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob] McDonnell's Virginia would be one where abortion rights would be curtailed; where homosexuals would be treated as second-class citizens; where information about birth control would be hidden; and where the line between church and state could get awfully porous. That is a prescription for yesterday's Virginia, not tomorrow's." --The Washington Post (Yesterday's Virginia would be the Virginia of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Patrick Henry.)
Getting it right: "The White House trying to dictate who's a news organization. Democrats out to gut a business group. Obama media allies damning Americans as racist, unpatriotic and treasonous. Is this the America Obama promised when he campaigned to end the cynical and divisive politics of the past?" --Chicago Sun-Times columnist Steve Huntley
Getting it right II: "It's escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations 'not a news organization' and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it's appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one?" --ABC's Jake Tapper to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs
This week's "Leftmedia Buster" Award: "So the president's aides appear on other news channels to say that Fox, unlike those outlets, is really not a news organization but an arm of the Republican Party. One wonders how our colleagues at CNN and elsewhere like being patted on the head and given the seal of approval by the White House." --Fox News political analyst Brit Hume

From the race baiters: "Last week, when conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh lost his bid for partial ownership of the St. Louis Rams, many adjectives were used to describe his possible state of mind. Several news outlets commented on his anger and frustration, while the right wing had a field day with the 'injustice' of it all. But perhaps the most precise word to summarize Mr. Limbaugh's reaction to news that his inflammatory commentary of the past excluded him from ownership in the NFL is pure and simple 'fear.' There are also insane people ruled by insane leaders (but enough about the House Democratic Caucus). Sane people with sane rulers has not been fully tried yet." --columnist Ann Coulter
Editor's Note: On Monday, the "Last Word" section was a satirical bit of humor by conservative columnist Frank Fleming mocking the Left's view of liberty and government. We were quite surprised at the number of readers who didn't catch that it was satire -- even with an editor's note before the quote explaining that it was satire. Thanks to those who did get it and posted comments pointing that out again. To those who didn't get it, perhaps this link might help.

What happens to men like John Kerry and John McCain?? They served in Vietnam, know the ravages of war, the invasion of the Communists, even POW camps. They go to Washington, D.C. and the "intimidation" of the place overwhelms their being.
Incredible.

Your reference to John F. Kerry's service in Viet Nam bears a little checking. He did serve there, for a little over three months before he collected three Purple Hearts. One was for a scratch received on his boat and treated with a band aid and another from a grenade he himself launched which hit a nearby tree and sent shrapnel back to him. Two of his three Purple Heart recommendations were written by him and submitted to his commander for signature.
The rest of us spent one or two years there.

I would like for Patriot Post to delve more deeply into the up-coming Denmark meeting among all of the countries of the world. Is this actually another shot at getting signatures on the line for a New World Order to drain the most affluent countries and redistribute wealth to Third World countries. The United States of America needs to remain a Soveriegn nation and not be tied into something they can't back out of before we tie ourselves in to something without a vote of the people.

Ironically the funniest thing about Fleming's satirical piece is how many "intelligent" people do not know what "satire" is.
I just read it along with the comments and it was hilarious. Especially people that are saying things like, "you should have told us the satire was a joke" (I paraphrase, of course). LOL

As I watch the continued adoration of Barack Obama by those in the minority community who continue to support him, his policies and the direction he so wants to take this country, I can't help but recognize that what they are in fact supporting and apparently voting for is a return to slavery. Not slavery to a plantation owner, but slavery to a government who is hell bent on taking all we have and rationing it back to us. All in the name of fairness. Watching what was reported as upwards of 60,000 people in Minneapolis stand in line for a chance to receive $2000 from "Obama" made me shake my head and wonder how long before he wants the $2000 back, with interest?

I wonder if anyone is starting to regret electing Obama as POTUS? We've got a four star begging for troops, the economy is in bad shape, unemployment at nearly 10% and Obama is more interested in taking on Fox News than solving those problems. Guess he just can't stand the truth being told about him or his marxist administration!!!

Rush Limbaugh hit the nail on the head yet again. It's not the color of Obama's skin that is so offensive to America, it's the color of his politics (RED). Black, white, or otherwise, America will NOT tolerate a totalitarian regime in the White House. It's unfortunate for us all that most people are too busy trying to live their lives and support their families that they won't take the time to look behind the curtain of smoke and mirrors. Many people simply watch the evening news and accept what the mainstream media tells them. Unfortunately, those days are long past when you could rely on the truth coming from the networks. Their left wing bias is showing to anyone that bothers to look. More people should take the time to look at what's really happening in this country. The blatant corruption and lies coming from the White House and all of the "czars" should be sending a chill up the spine of any true American patriot.

Perhaps someone can ask Mr. Obama, our apparent mopper-in-chief, what exactly his experience is or abilities are in mopping, given his unwillingness to be criticized about same.
As a youth, I did mop floors in my job and actually developed some proficiency at it, although my first attempts were poor. I did learn that through poor mopping, it is quite possible to make a mess bigger no matter who made then mess in the first place.

Mark, I am interested in the White House's position of MSNBC in light of their view of Fox News. If Fox is an extension of the Republican Party, then is MSNBC an extension of the Democratic Party?
We are in dangerous times, my friend! As an historian, I see a lot of correlations between the Democrats and the Nazis in tactics and the struggle my Southern ancestors fought for (states's rights and the role of the federal government). As we get ready to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States, I hope we just reenact the war rather than refight it!

People reveal themselves in their lifelong commitments, and the discussion here emphasizes those who have long sought change both for personal political power as well as systemic change in government. Unless we work to reverse the current trend of government as the massive and overbearing presence encroaching upon all our daily decisions, we will no longer live in liberty, but slavery.

An interesting comment in George Orwell's essay "Review of Russia under Soviet Rule by N. DeBasily." It's in the last paragraph.

I find myself in the unenviable position of agreeing with Byrd. Get all the troops out of Afghanistan. Spray the country with Agent Orange to kill the poppy crop (Heroin). Then send in the Peace Corps to teach this tribal society to grow food.

Hmmm! I'm not so proud that I can't admit that I was taken in by your run at satire. But tell me how is what was said any different from what we hear everyday from the pestilence running our Government? You actually got me. Nice slam.

My father forearded a copy of The Patriot Post to me. Sometimes you feel like the only sane person in a mental hospital. It's nice to be invigorated by folks of like mind. It's good to be reminded that I'm not alone, trying to navigate on a sea of Obama worshippers.
Keep up the good work; not only in telling the truth, but in trminding us the truth is the truth no matter how many people spin it in numerous ways. Yes, I do have ny own subscription now.

Keep up the great work. Thoroughly enjoy the Chronicle.
