The Foundation

"Gentlemen, you will permit me to put on my spectacles, for I have grown not only gray, but almost blind in the service of my country." --George Washington

Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day. We encourage all Patriots to set aside time and reflect on the sacrifice of our Patriot veterans and those serving today, and honor them accordingly.

On Nov. 11, 1921, an unknown American soldier from World War I was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, in recognition of WWI veterans and in conjunction with the timing of cessation of hostilities at 11 a.m., Nov. 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). President Warren Harding requested that: "All ... citizens ... indulge in a period of silent thanks to God for these ... valorous lives and of supplication for His Divine mercy ... on our beloved country." Inscribed on the Tomb are the words: "Here lies in honored glory an American soldier know but to God." The day became known as "Armistice Day." In 1954, Congress, wanting to recognize the sacrifice of veterans since WWI, proposed to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day in their honor. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, former Supreme Commander in WWII, signed the legislation.

To honor those veterans who sacrificed all, an Army honor guard from the 3d U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) keeps day and night vigil at Arlington. At 11 a.m. this morning, a combined color guard representing all military service branches executed "Present Arms" at the tomb for the laying of a wreath by the president, followed by "Taps."

More than a million Patriots stand ready, or are actively defending our nation today. These men and women were not drafted into service, but volunteered to serve. To all our veterans: Thank you for your dedicated service to the cause of liberty.

To the wounded soldiers and civilians, and the families of those killed or wounded at Fort Hood: Our prayers are with you.

Mark Alexander will have more on Veterans Day in his essay tomorrow, dedicated to the service of two notable veterans.

Insight

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse." --John Stuart Mill

"A really great people, proud and high-spirited, would face all the disasters of war rather than purchase that base prosperity which is bought at the price of national honor." --Theodore Roosevelt

"Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory." --George S. Patton

"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." --Sir Winston S. Churchill

"It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country ... in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray-haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives -- the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for their country, for us. All we can do is remember." --Ronald Reagan

Editorial Exegesis

"The Fort Hood terrorist is being portrayed as an 'anomaly,' an 'aberration,' a 'lone wolf.' Sadly, [Nidal Hasan is] just one of many examples of jihadist traitors in the ranks of the military. Together they form a dangerous Fifth Column, and the Pentagon -- thanks to institutionalized political correctness -- is doing next to nothing to root them out. Instead, brass are actively recruiting Muslim soldiers -- whose ranks have swelled to more than 15,000 -- and catering to their faith by erecting mosques even at Marine headquarters in Quantico, Va. More, they're hiring Muslim chaplains endorsed by radical Islamic front groups, who convert and radicalize soldiers. In the wake of the worst domestic military-base massacre in U.S. history, this is an outrage to say the least. And the PC blinders explain how Fort Hood commanders could have failed so horrifically in protecting their force from the internal threat there. The terrorist suspect, an Islamic fanatic, penetrated deep into the Army's officer corps before gunning down, execution-style, more than 40 of his fellow soldiers. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly killed 13 at the Texas post, which boasts some 40 Muslims. Witnesses say he shouted 'Allahu Akbar' -- Allah is great! -- before opening fire in a crowded building where troops were sitting ducks, waiting to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan, both wars that Hasan angrily opposed. 'Muslims should stand up and fight the aggressor,' he reportedly said earlier this year, referring to the U.S. -- the country he swore to protect." --Investor's Business Daily

Upright

"On Thursday afternoon, a radicalized Muslim US Army officer shouting, 'Allahu akbar!' ('God is great!') committed the worst act of terror on American soil since 9/11. And no one wants to call it an act of terror or associate it with Islam. What cowards we are. Political correctness killed those patriotic Americans at Fort Hood as surely as the Islamist gunman did. And the media treat it like a case of nondenominational shoplifting. This was a terrorist act. When an extremist plans and executes a murderous plot against our unarmed soldiers to protest our efforts to counter Islamist fanatics, it's an act of terror. Period." --columnist Ralph Peters

"Maj. Hasan is not a card-carrying member of the Texas branch of al-Qa'ida reporting to a control officer in Yemen or Waziristan. If he were, things would be a lot easier. Yet the same pathologies that drive al-Qa'ida beat within Maj. Hasan, too, and in the end his Islamic impulses trumped his expensive Western education, his psychiatric training, his military discipline -- his entire American identity." --columnist Mark Steyn

"Among the things that people complain about under the present medical care system are the costs, insurance company bureaucrats' denials of reimbursements for some treatments and the free loaders at hospital emergency rooms whose costs have to be paid by others. Will a government-run medical system make these things better or worse? This very basic question seldom seems to get asked, much less answered." --economist Thomas Sowell

"Advocates of government control want you to believe that the serious shortcomings of our medical and insurance system are failures of the free market. But that's impossible because our market is not free. Each state operates a cozy medical and insurance cartel that restricts competition through licensing and keeps prices higher than they would be in a genuine free market. But the planners won't talk about that. After all, if government is the problem in the first place, how can they justify a government takeover?" --columnist John Stossel

"Congress recognizes no limits on its power. It doesn't care about the Constitution, it doesn't care about your inalienable rights, it doesn't care about the liberties protected by the Bill of Rights, it doesn't even read the laws it writes. America, this is not an academic issue. If this health care bill becomes law, life as you have known it, freedom as you have exercised it, privacy as you have enjoyed it, will cease to be." --Judge Andrew Napolitano

"Where in the U.S. Constitution does it authorize Congress to force Americans to buy health insurance? If Congress gets away with forcing us to buy health insurance, down the line, what else will they force us to buy; or do you naively think they will stop with health insurance?" --economist Walter E. Williams

Support The Patriot's Mission

"Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them." --Thomas Jefferson

Dezinformatsia

Gratuitous Christian bashing: "It's looking more and more like [Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan] was just, sort of, a religious nut. And you know Islam doesn't have a majority -- or the Christian religion has its full, you know, full helping of nuts too." --CBS's Bob Schieffer

What was the tragedy again? "It really is tragic that he was a Muslim." --NPR's Nina Totenberg

"I cringe that he's a Muslim. I mean, because it inflames all the fears. I think he's probably just a nut case. But with that label attached to him, it will get the right wing going and it just -- I mean these things are tragic, but that makes it much worse." --Newsweek's Evan Thomas

Non Compos Mentis: "[Hasan] makes a phone call or whatever, according to Reuters right now. Apparently he tried to contact al-Qa'ida. Is that the point at which you say, 'This guy is dangerous?' That's not a crime to call up al-Qa'ida, is it? Is it? I mean, where do you stop the guy?" --MSNBC's Chris Matthews

PC virus: "We cannot call him the shooter until we have a trial. That's the way we work here, you know, that's how it works in America." --Chris Matthews

Commie apologist: "Many who were raised in the East are still adjusting to the harsh economic realities, especially during this economic downturn." --NBC's Tom Brokaw, taking the opportunity of the anniversary Berlin Wall's demise to trash capitalism

Because America totally didn't have anything to do with it: "I know, I think it may be a little egocentric but I think most Americans look at that event and they think of it as an American victory." --NBC's Matt Lauer

Fact checking gone wrong: "Nnn, Constitution doesn't have a Preamble. Not. Nope. Stop it. That would be the Declaration of Independence. Ooh." --MSNBC host Rachel Maddow responding to House Minority Leader John Boehner, who actually did quote the preamble to the Declaration

Sometimes they get it right: "The U.S. government is making a costly and open-ended commitment. Let's not pretend that it isn't a big deal, or that it will be self-financing, or that it will work out exactly as planned. It won't. What is really unfolding, I suspect, is the scenario that many conservatives feared. The Obama Administration ... is creating a new entitlement program, which, once established, will be virtually impossible to rescind." --New Yorker columnist John Cassidy

The Demo-gogues

So presidential: "Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support [Democrats who vote against the health care bill] if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit [Democrat voters] and it will encourage the extremists." --Barack Obama in a pep talk to Democrats, using the homosexual slur "teabag" (look it up at your own risk) to describe limited-government protesters

"The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning." --Bill Clinton, using the same slur

Opposite Day: "[O]n the day that we gather here at the White House and I sign comprehensive health insurance reform legislation into law [senators will] be able to join their House colleagues and say this was their finest moment in public service." --Barack Obama opining on how destroying the world's best medical care will be Leftist politicos' "finest moment"

Crime and punishment: "What I think is appropriate is that in the same way that everybody has to get auto insurance and if you don't, you're subject to some penalty, that in this situation, if you have the ability to buy insurance, it's affordable and you choose not to do so, forcing you and me and everybody else to subsidize you ... you know, there's nothing wrong with a penalty. ... Penalties are appropriate for people who try to free ride the system and force others to pay for their health insurance." --Barack Obama when asked if the up to $250,000 fine and jail time for not buying insurance was appropriate (If we didn't subsidize them in the first place, this might not be a problem.)

"[The bill] provides [sic] coverage for 96 percent of Americans. It offers [sic] everyone, regardless of health or income, the peace of mind that comes from knowing they will have access to affordable health care when they need it." --Michigan Democrat Rep. John Dingell (Whether they want it or not.)

The shooter was the victim: "Even within the extraordinary military that we have -- and I think everybody understands how outstanding the young men and women in uniform are under the most severe stress -- there are going to be instances in which an individual cracks." --Barack Obama

Gun grabbers: "Unfortunately, America loves guns. We love guns to a point that, uh, we see the devastation on a daily basis." --Chicago mayor Richard Daley on the Fort Hood massacre

It's always about Obama: "I'd like to extend my congratulations to the people of Germany and the people of Europe on this 20th anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall. I'm sorry I could not stand there today with so many friends. ... Few would have foreseen on that day that a united Germany would be led by a woman from Brandenburg or that their American ally would be led by a man of African descent. But human destiny is what human beings make of it." --narcissist in chief, BO, by video to those celebrating the Wall's demise

Say what? "I know that in the past people are concerned, 'Are we going to have our young people being taught to the test?' That's the last thing we want." --Barack Obama

Village Idiots

Brought to you by the "Religion of Peace": "Nidal Hassan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people. ... Nidal opened fire on soldiers who were on their way to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. How can there be any dispute about the virtue of what he has done? In fact, the only way a Muslim could Islamically justify serving as a soldier in the U.S. army is if his intention is to follow the footsteps of men like Nidal." --Anwar al-Awlaki, former Muslim cleric who led the Northern Virginia mosque that Hasan attended -- and which 9/11 terrorists Nawaf al-Hazmi, Hani Hanjour and Khalid al-Mihdhar also attended in 2001

From the Department of Military Correctness: "I think the speculation [that Hasan committed jihad against his Army comrades] could potentially heighten backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers. ... I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here." --Gen. George W. Casey Jr., Army Chief of Political Correctness

"It's still premature to draw the terrorism conclusion." --NBC terrorism analyst Roger Cressy on Hasan

Wannabe pundits: "America needs to do something about idiots with handguns. How many more Fort Hoods and Orlandos do there have to be before our political leaders have the guts to severely restrict access to murderous weapons?" --sportswriter Peter King, blaming the implement instead of the attacker

Short Cuts

"President Obama taped a speech to show to the crowd at the Berlin Wall gala Monday. He reminded the viewing audience he too made history as the first black president. The earth wobbled on its axis from the gravitational pull of three billion people rolling their eyes simultaneously." --comedian Argus Hamilton

"At 69, Pelosi stands a good chance of facing a death panel before she leads a majority of this size again." --Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto

"Waiting weeks to get an MRI to find out why you are sick, and then waiting months for an operation, as happens in countries with government-run medical systems, can be not only painful but dangerous. You can be dead by the time they find out what is wrong with you and do something about it. But that will 'bring down the cost of medical care' because you won't be around to require any." --economist Thomas Sowell

My thoughts and prayers are with those who have sacrificed their safety, their comfort, their fortunes, their families and their lives for us to have freedom in this wonderful country, and to enjoy this luxurious life that most Americans take for granted. God bless all American soldiers who have given their all to defend us and our freedoms! Let's not disappoint their collective memory by letting the enemy within take over everything we hold dear. I want all future generations to be able to say, we are proud to be Americans, not global citizens. We are strong, we are proud, we are unique, we are exceptional, we are AMERICANS!

I'm taking a course in Middle East history right now, and all I keep hearing from my professor is how I have to see things from the middle eastern perspective. From everything I've read, Islam is their code to follow for everyday life. Every point that I've taken from this class (a history class is required for my B.A.) is that followers of Islam are required to follow Islam - required by Allah in order to receive his blessings. It's crazy that any followers of Islam are allowed into our military.

Over a million stand ready in uniform and I offer my gratitude and support for the sacrifice our fighting men and women make. With that being said, there are over 60 million patriots that stand ready that are not now in uniform, armed with the weapons of the light infantryman, 2nd amendment, ready to defend this country from invasion as well as tyrannical rule if necessary.

What happened at Fort Hood should have never happened and to me it is clearly an act of a terrorist. I don't trust any of them and that even goes for the President because he is one of them also. He is out to destroy this country and true Americans.

"Teabagging" is a homosexual slur. I would like the POTUS and the ex-POTUS to stop using this language to refer to Americans exercising their right to free speech. Didn't Congress just pass a new hate crimes bill? This sounds pretty hateful to me.

If the middle eastern perspective is such a great thing, then why are they still living in squaller 3 centuries behind us. I for one am not interested in learning about a so called religious view that is no more religious than the goat they play with.

The Ramirez cartoon says it all.

There needs to be a new oath of allegiance for all military personnel that enumerates every thing which must be placed beneath their duty to the nation's Constitution and its civilian-headed chain of command including political opinion, religious conviction and the like.

What's odd here is that we appear to have a murderer, traitor and enemy combattant in one.

Nice little piece on Obama. The Berlin Wall comes down, I'm elected president, a woman is Chancellor of Germany: all equally important events. Who will ask Merkell if she thinks so?

Thanks for all of your great work! I wish that I could believe that anything relating to the military means a thing to our president. Does he not feel the pain and sorrow for those who have lost a dear loved one? We have not seen him shed one tear, not when Ted Kennedy died, not on the anniversary of 9/11, and not yesterday at the ceremony to remember 14 who were killed by this jihadist. Is he capable of feeling other's pain? He can say the right words, but I don't sense any real feeling behind them. It is a disgrace that he is taking so long to decide to support General McChrystal's request for additional soldiers, when our sons are in mortal danger every hour of every day. If he doesn't give General McChrystal what he needs and they don't arrive until the end of 2010, what good is that? We are fighting a global war on terror and the only budgets he cuts are of the military.

Regarding Barrack Hussein Obama: His lack of compassion and explantion for the dead soilders in Ft. Hood can be directly attributed to the same consciousness and reality of the shooter Nidal Hassan - they are both muslims; been educated at the highest level in America at tax payer's expense; promoted because of America's political correctness and caste system of protected minorities. The United States has been infiltrated by people who hate America and what it stands for at ALL levels of society.

The prblem is , we have not only forgotten how to fight a war, but we have also spawned a group of leaders?(or people with the title) who do not know how to recognize when you are in a war!! That said, we either need to fight the war on the Muslims (to win), or surrender!!! There is no victory (or peace) in "status quo" when you are being shot at!!

I've wondered for a long time about "political correctness". Although we try to keep the peace, sometimes we are overly correct in the way we react to behavior that is suspect. In time of war, we should be very vigilant, as (hopefully) we have learned from the terror at Fort Hood.

Diversity is good to a point, but there must be limits somewhere. While I am not always politically correct ( just the way I am, & don't particularly care who doesn't like it!) I think it is a shame that our Govt, has opened the "doors" to sworn enemies. Not only are they in the military, but we have so many involved in our Government today.

As for the shooter at Ft. Hood, a very good thing he thinks our military is a joke or he would have known... 1 SHOT... 1 KILL

This abomination fired off 100 rounds! What has happened is horrible, but things could have been much worse.

My heart goes out to the families & loved ones of those involved. It is a shame that they have fallen here in their own homeland, where one would & should expect to be safe, especially on a military installation!

Think about this for a minute, if our soldiers are not safe on base, where could the general population feel safe? Don't fall for it when we are told "The Government will be our salvation"

Our salvation lays in God & our 2nd. Amendment Rights!

We must protect The Constitution & all it stands for!

To Peter King and his admirers:

The tragedy is that Army personnel are banned from carrying loaded weapons while on Post and had to rely on a civilian police officer to stop the shooter. What do you think would have happened IF other soldiers had been armed? I expect Hasan would have been quickly stopped. The further tragedy is that the police officer only wounded the shooter instead of killing him, now setting the stage for an expensive, quasi-public trail, and it will probably be years before he meets his just reward.

The two most destructive words in the english language - PC and alleged.

Being PC is ignoring obvious facts and not courageous enough to accept reality.

A person (in the recent example - Hassan) who was seen by many shooting and killing fellow humans is NOT alleged to be the killer, he IS the killer.

Along with the excellent quotes selected for Veterans' Day, let me suggest this quote as appropriate for the day, and for the dangerous path Obama is taking us on.

Susan H.

There was a time, not so long ago, when our Commander-in-Chief was a man who had served in our military, and knew what it meant to fight against tyranny and evil. For some reason, people have come to believe that charisma, and charm, and the ability to mesmerize vast numbers of people are the qualities we need in our President. I suggest that we make it a requirement of any presidential candidate that they have served in some capacity in the military. Our current C. in C. doesn't seem to have any empathy for those who lost loved ones or were injured by a Muslim jihadist. Perhaps it's because he is a man who was raised as a Muslim, and who has no respect for the dangers our military personnel face every day, and therefore has nothing but disdain for the brave men and women who keep this country safe.

May I extend my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy for all who were affected by this act of terrorism. May God bless you and keep you in His care.

Thank you for bringing a much needed light in this darkness that we have been walking in. My husband served proudly in the Marines and suffered daily from the stress that war causes; but given the chance he would have proudly served again. When are we going to learn that political correctness and the down grading of freedom of speech is slowly killing a once proud nation. I forgot, Christians are not protected. We just spew hate speech.

This idiot with a handgun has always stood ready to defend his home, family, and neighbor against those intent on violence.

And now, apparently, this idiot must be truly prepared to defend his country, his rights, and the rights of all other Americans (including the 69 million plus who, in 2009, expressed their ignorance by vote) against the usurpers of those rights guaranteed to all Americans by The Constitution.

Firstly, words cannot express what a wonderful organization the Patriot Post is, and Mark Alexander is one of the most insightful people I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Next to the Constitution and my scriptures, the Patriot Post is the most important thing I read everyday. Thank you for all you do.

To the point: I'm not a law professor, I'm just an undergrad of American history and Constitutional studies, but if the Constitution doesn't have a preamble, what's the part at the beginning that starts "We the People" and has all the common defence, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty stuff? Perhaps Ms. Maddow is guilty of that most egregious of liberal sins, not reading the stuff she is talking about. Perhaps I am wrong and that section of the Constitution is called something else, but my pocket Constitution identifies it as the Preamble, and other columnists have refered to the language therein as part of the Preamble. Oh well, what else do we expect from the liberal media? Certainly not integrity or accuracy anymore, more's the pity.

Where was "diversity" when Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt wanted to pray in the name of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? Although Chaplain Klingenschmitt prevailed in his court martial, he was denied approximately $1 million of the military retirement he had accrued. Also, those of us who are pro-life should rightly and correctly insist that Hasan be charged with 14 counts of murder. The murdering Muslim killed a pregnant soldier.

Rachel Maddow showed her ignorance of American historical documents when she stated emphatically that "the Constitution does not have a preamble but the Declaration of Independence does." Whoops, wrong twice there Rachel. The Constitution has a Preamble and every grade school student should know it. The Declaration of Independence does not have a Preamble, thus Congressman Boehner simply misspoke when he said, "We hold these truths to be self evident" as coming from the Preamble to the Constitution. Those words come from the first line in the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. An understandable minor slip up for the Congressman, but an embarrassing set of major gaffs for the sarcastic, know-it-all Rachel Maddow.

Our troops, and their families, deserve our full support, respect and gratitude for their continued sacrifices each day.

For those of us who realize, and appreciate, all our troops sacrifices and time away from loved ones, we do wht we can to send a little home to them while they are away fighting for our freedoms.

If there are any Central PA folks, and others, reading this post who feel the same way I and our group of supporters do, please visit our web site Central PA Supports the Troops located at:

http://centralpennsylvaniasupportsthetroops.com/default.html

This year, as in past years, we have adopted a marine detachment in Afghanistan and an Army battalion in Iraq. Throughout the year we send care packages and nicities from home. Moreover, every Christmas, we get together and send stockings for each troop in these units stationed overseas.

Many of our troops never even receive packages from home, so the care packages, stockings and Christmas trees we send each year let's them know how much we care and think about them.

Please feel free to visit our web site and if you are able to do so, please help us support our men and women away from home and family during our most sacred of holidays.

God Bless our honorable men and women in uniform.

Thank you!

It is unfortunate that such a premium is placed on diversity and inclusiveness within the military establishment. With an all volunteer force, it is important to take the best and most qualified individuals, regardless of race, creed, etc... Keeping in mind that military service is a privilege and not a right, the military needs the freedom to recruit for maximum effectiveness, not sacrificing itself on the altar of political correctness. Hobbes was right, life is cold, brutish, nasty and short. This is the world we live in. This is the world our US military fights in. Can the military fight and win if we give up so much to this weak politically correct worldview?

You quoted Ralph Peters and referred to him as a "columnist." While that may be true, he is, more importantly, a Retired Army Lt. Col. That title gives him more credibility on the subjects upon which he speaks and writes. He has the courage to call this Fort Hood terrorist, just that, a terrorist, while the weak-kneed adminstration tap-dances around the issue in its feeble attempts to be politically correct. Sadly, and I think Col. Peters was correct, that it was political correctness that cost 13 brave American men and women their lives.

If public figures like Napolitano believe all of our freedoms and liberties will be gone if the health care bill passes then why aren't more of you screaming at the top of your lungs to the American people? Also, where are all the Constitutional attorneys who can lead the way to stop this takeover of America by a group of radical revolutionaries?

You, who have a daily public forum to lead the way must do so post haste and with as much passion as you can muster so others know we are currently under seige by revolutionary forces. Many people don't know this so please find a way to utilize more public airwaves so you can capture more unaware Americans. They don't believe me when I tell them. They will believe you as public figures so shout while you still have a public forum; while you still have a voice.

Re: Upright and John Stossel's [ Each state operates a cozy medical and insurance cartel that restricts competition through licensing and keeps prices higher than they would be in a genuine free market.]

While I usually agree with Mr Stossel on various topics, I can only walk part way with him on this one. As a Libertarian, he would certainly agree with the 10th Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, . . . Here the Constitution can be seen to work well.

As an example, in Missouri the Insurance Commission is charged with assisting the State Legislature in all matters pertaining to Insurance, be it regulations or legislation. They take their role seriously. Their purview consists of the oversight of Brokers, Agents, rules / regs, etc, in order to protect the pubic and to assist carriers in approving programs for market.

Is it perfect? No. Is politics involved? Yes. There are certain mandated benefits in health insurance policies that often cause us, as Brokers to scratch or heads as each of these mandated benefits add to the cost of the policies. But, remember that most of the bad / ineffective / costly legislation start from a feeling of compassion on the part of a Legislator.

As to the "restricts competition" piece, well in Missouri we have 410 companies authorized to write Health, Life and Accident business. Sounds like allot of competition to me. That some seem to have a large share of the market might invite scrutiny as to whether it is a result of a magnificent business model to be emulated or shenanigans.

Dig deep for root causes and you may find something to reform and it may not cost anywhere near $1.4 trillion.

Only in America can you skate on thin ice and get in hot water

Chris Matthews says that the Ft. Hood shooter is innocent until proven guilty. He needs to know that that is true only in a court of law. In the public arena he is GUILTY!!!!!!!!!!!

This thing about peoples rights in a case like The killing at Fort Hood realy does bother me because any person that would do this , has given up their rights to even live as for as I am concerned.

This is something different but would some one please help me in this situation. Our daughter has this little grand son and he is six years old and he went to school the other day and at the cafeteria he bowed his little head and folded his little hands and prayed( giving God thanks for his food) and his teacher came up to him and told him that he could not do that , that he could bow his head but not fold his hands as two of the family members talked to the teacher her reply was we ( The schools didn't make the rule, we are following orders from the Federal Government)

When did this rule take place and who did make that decision. That takes a lot of nerve to tell anybody they cannot pray especially a little 6 year old boy and this happened in Odessa , Texas;

I appreciate your input.

Thanks Vera Cupp

In all fairness to the Constitution, Rachel Maddow was not the only one who can't seem to get his facts straight. Even Boehner began with "We hold these truths to be self-evident" which is from the Declaration, and not from the Constitution, as he was claiming to be reading.

Re: Ralph Peters' statement November 11th, 2009.

Has Mr. Peters also fallen prey to the Political Correctness folly? Or is he just showing his ignorance? "Allahu Akbar" Does NOT mean "God is Great." God's name is not Allah, but YHWH, which is most often prounouced "Yahweh." Allah is NOT God.

As I type this just after midnight, on the morning after Veterans Day, 2009, I sit here and wonder just how in the name of God, the CHRISTIAN version, an anti-American, foreign born, black Muslim became our commander-in-chief.

I knew on 9-11-2001, that the American people might forget those events, to a degree, as with seeing juries and the ACLU sticking up for the rights of Muslim terror suspects. But never in my imagination did I see this coming to pass.

President Eisenhower WARNED us. Senator Eugene McCarthy WARNED us. He was flawed, like many of the human species, and made out to be nuts by the press, the media did a great job doing so. Result being his message was forgotten, along with him. A tragedy, because he was all too right. Just look at what this President, and the neo-coms in Congress are trying to do! This is the most dangerous president (and socialist congress) in history, as dangerous as Nidal at Fort hood, only in a far higher position, with much more firepower at his disposal.

I saw a short clip of him at a Marine function, he was received very coldly, and deservedly so. The Marines aren't as easily fooled as the apparent majority of voters.

He bowed to a Saudi King, he abandoned Israel. He wants to negotiate with tyrants. His wife said she wasn't proud of her country 'til he won in the primaries, now she has 22 assistants- the most of any first lady in history. This narcissistic man is not one of us...meaning Americans. The Book Of Revelations speaks of an incredibly similar man and events in the end times. I believe we are there.

The delaying of additional soldiers to Afghanistan by Obama further underlines the fact he (BO) is Muslim and more Arab than black. When will we wake up to reality?

Regarding Peter Kings comments about the Ft. Hood attack and why dont' our political leaders have the guts to restrict citizens access to firearms: Maybe someone should point out to him that military leaders did just that. The soliders on the base are forbiden to bear arms on post. See how that stopped Hassan?

Army Officer in Iraq

I am a U.S. Army officer serving in Iraq. I am also a Muslim. Major Hasan's actions at Fort Hood were despicable and he deserves the death penalty. It sickens me when things like this happens and I have to explain that most Muslims don't think this way. It is the mindset of Al Qaeda that we (along with the Iraqi Army, which is mostly Muslim) battle every day here. Please stop lumping American Muslims who serve honorably with these Al Qaeda criminals.

was a honor, and flying the flag on all the holidays was a must. Thank God for a standing army of volunteers who fight for this. 15,000 Muslims in this Army!! Wake up America! Or the goal of destroying us from within will soon be met!

John McClain

With regard to requiring health care insurance, it is entirely disengenuous to compare it to car insurance, unless all citizens, whether or not they own a car, are forced to carry motor vehicle insurance.

With regard to the War crime committed by the Major, the only crime involved was his wearing of an American uniform, and thus being a "spy". What he did was an act of war, against our Military, by a member of the Enemy we fight, who clothed himself in our uniform, just as the Nazis who landed on Long Island did, during the Second World War. He did not commit thirteen murders and thirty odd attempted murders, that could only be true were the victims random selected, and non-uniformed military personnel. His act of war warranted return fire, and capture as an enemy, if he lived, as he did, but acts of war are not a crime, and he did nothing at all in the civilian theater of our Nation, but attacked Soldiers on a military base in a military attack planned and no doubt practiced.

The only court he is liable to, and indeed, has lawful access to is a military tribunal, not even a court martial, since he acted as an exact enemy combatant in his actions, not as a member of our military who lost his mind, or killed his wife, or a hated neighbor.

Had he donned clothing identifying himself as an enemy, before he started the attack, he could not even be tried, but would simply have to be held as a prisoner of war, because he would have violated no rules of war according to international laws of war.

It is in wearing the uniform of an American officer that he acted against those laws of war, and thus should be tried by a tribunal, exactly as those Nazis were, and if found guilty of military acts while in false uniform, hanged by the neck until dead.

Since he was observed by hundreds of people, all along the way, there is no real excuse for the use of the word "alleged" when referring to the specific acts he was observed committing and are undeniable because of the compendium of facts. It is time we remember that "alleged" was introduced because some people are accused of crimes which there is no clear and undeniable record of, and they might indeed be innocent, and at the time, those whose crime was undeniable, were not referred to in such a way. We know what we did, it is not a matter of "believing we know what he did".

Sincerely,

John McClain

I would like to know why I have not heard a thing about the crosses in Arlington National Cemetery being removed and replaced with non-descript head stones. Why has there not been an outcry against the ACLU about this? This was not the choice of the people and I can almost guarantee it was not by an election or petition that this occurred. What is up with this? The ACLU does not have the right to order such a thing. That cemetery, I assume belongs to the people. Just like the Vietnam Memorial, which I have heard the last line of Pres. Eisnhowers speech was eliminated, just because it mentioned God.

Who has been ordering these things to come about?

ex 1st Lt, US Army

As an American Citizen, ex Army Officer, Disabled Veteran, husband and father I have this to say:

When this piece of filth is sentenced to death, please, allow me to be his executioner. If he is to hang, I will adjust the rope so he strangles slowly, if he is to be shot, I will use 3 rounds to bring about a slow painful death.

He does not deserve the honor of a fast death, he has earned a slow death where he sees, feels and fears that his life is slowly slipping away.

No, not revenge, but justice, pure and simple.

There are not two Islams, one of peace and one of violent radicals. There is one, with one goal, world domination by Islam. If you have any doubt read the Koran. It is written in the Koran that Islam must be spread over the entire world, by any means deemed necessary including killing those who will not convert. This is not just a Islamic radical minority teaching, it is from the teachings of Mohammad! All followers of Mohammad accept this. Spread Islam by occupation, war and conversion of the infidels. Misrepresenting Islam as a religion of peace is a politically correct folly that will only enable the stated goals of Islam. Those who are not Islamic combatants are not the peace loving people our politically correct, head in the sand leaders are trying to convince us they are, They are the supporters of those who use the guns and bombs in the fight to spread Islam and defeat the Great Satan; the non Muslim world. The non combatants of Islam are the one who are relocating to spread Islam through adverse possession. If you think Islamic immigrants are moving to non Islamic countries to assimilate into the host countries culture and governments you are just an uneducated believer in the politically correct BS being fed to you by MSM and other misinformed imbeciles.

Those that interpret the goals of Islam as they wish it was instead of how it is are more than just stupid, it is fatal to our beliefs and way of life. We are at war with the Islamic world and have been for over 1200 years, the survival of non Islamic civilizations are truly at stake. We had better get a clue real fast or we will consign ourselves to the religious fanatical tyranny of the Islamic agenda.

Mister.C

I am so tired of hearing the references made of how our service men and women gave their lives for their country. They did not GIVE their lives at all. Their lives were taken from them. True, they made their lives available to be taken but not one of them who died would not have rather lived to go on with their lives. It would be more appropriate then to change that old hackneed expression about how they gave their lives and bring freshness into the feelings of their passing. Their lives were indeed taken from them.

President Obama's assumption that "everybody has to get auto insurance" shows just how incompetent he really is. If I don't own a vehicle I don't need auto insurance, and I certainly wouldn't want to pay "my share" of somebody elses either.

Just wondering when the MSM will cease calling

Barak Obama, America's first black president.

First and foremost he is of mixed race, born of a

black Kenyan national and a young, white girl from

Kansas. His bloodline, to the best of my knowledge,

cannot be traced to any African American, who can

trace their roots to the 1600's. He may be a lot of things, but is clearly NOT America's first African American president.

This is in response to John McClain - If one does not own a car, one does not need to purchase car insurance. But, if one owns a car and chooses not to buy insurance, that is against the law. If one is generally healthy, one may choose not to buy insurance and save money with interest in a special fund for a time when one may need to pay for medical care. It is hurting nobody. If you wait until you get sick and then demand to purchase insurance, we are out of luck. In either case, you are endangering anybody else's life but your own. It was not a "disingenious" comparison. I am tired of this euphemism, we have a better, briefer word for it - LIE. Thank you for setting me straight, you are a true gentleman.
