"National defense is one of the cardinal duties of a statesman." --John Adams
Obama announces Afghanistan planEditorial Exegesis
"One of the media's least accurate tropes is that, with the President's speech last night, Afghanistan is now 'Obama's war.' No, it isn't. Nations go to war, not merely Administrations, and President Obama's commitment of 30,000 more troops to that Southwest Asian theater is a national investment in blood and treasure on behalf of vital U.S. security interests. We support Mr. Obama's decision, and this national effort, notwithstanding our concerns about the determination of the President and his party to see it through. Now that he's committed, so is the country, and one of our abiding principles is that nations should never start (much less escalate) wars they don't intend to win." --The Wall Street Journal
Upright
"The full transcript of President Obama's long-delayed speech on Afghanistan is here. You can watch it in full here. Bush-bashing? Check. Noxious complaining about the cost of fighting a necessary war? Check. Disingenuous denial that he dithered? Check. 'Let me be clear's = 9. Self-congratulations for sticking to Gitmo closure policy = 1. Self-referential 'As your Commander-in-Chief's = 2. References to global jihad = 0." --columnist Michelle Malkin
"[In his speech Tuesday night,] Obama did what he could to mollify those [on the Left] by blaming Bush -- always a safe bet when trying to curry favor from the Left -- and by declaring there would be a time limit on the new deployment and they would be withdrawn starting in July 2011 -- just as the 2012 re-election campaign would be getting underway." --political analyst Rich Galen
"The issue isn't whether a war is popular: either it has to be fought or it doesn't. It is a president's duty to define the war and lead the nation to victory. And if a war is worth one American life, it is -- by definition -- worth however many dollars it takes to win. Domestic spending must be curtailed to fund a war, not the other way around." --columnist Jed Babbin
"[S]trategic success isn't Obama's ultimate concern. He wants political cover and is doing all he can to ensure that he's not on the blame-line, no matter what happens. He wants to appear strong -- but without unleashing our strength. He'll send more troops -- but won't let them do more." --columnist Ralph Peters
"The blunt truth is: The United States needs to win in Afghanistan. Defeating the Taliban and destroying al-Qa'ida is in our vital interests. It is the price of peace in South Asia. It is the only way to prevent another 9/11. By dedicating the resources needed to win and by getting our fiscal house in order, we can keep our nation safe, free and prosperous. Any other talk is just politics." --James Jay Carafano of The Heritage Foundation
"The reason the Democratic leadership and the White House are rushing to pass the [health care] bill is that they know it is killing them and believe doing it quickly will kill fewer of them than doing it slowly. If they pass it by year's end, perhaps voters will move on to other concerns by the November 2010 midterm elections." --columnist Byron York
"How many times has a liberal touted this or that government agenda with the idea that they're doing it 'for the children.' When more Americans begin to understand that the more accurate phrase it 'to the children,' it will be the beginning of the end for these power-hungry thugs. Here's hoping it happens sooner rather than later." --columnist Arnold Ahlert

"The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane." --Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121-180)
"It is one of the maladies of our age to profess a frenzied allegiance to truth in unimportant matters, and to refuse consistently to face her where graver issues are at stake." --British writer Norman Douglas (1868-1952)
"The state tends to expand in proportion to its means of existence and to live beyond its means, and these are, in the last analysis, nothing but the substance of the people. Woe to the people that cannot limit the sphere of action of the state! Freedom, private enterprise, wealth, happiness, independence, personal dignity, all vanish." --French economist Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)

Non Compos Mentis: "[Obama] went to maybe the enemy camp tonight to make his case. I mean, that's where Paul Wolfowitz used to write speeches for, back in the old Bush days. That's where he went to rabble rouse the 'we're going to democratize the world' campaign back in '02. So, I thought it was a strange venue." --MSNBC's Chris Matthews on West Point (Matthews later said that "maybe" he "used the wrong phrase, 'enemy camp,' but..." Some apology.)
Fretting: "Is this the last time the president is going to ask for American troops from the American people?" --ABC's Diane Sawyer to White House press secretary Robert Gibbs
Oh those heartless Republicans: "Who would deny health care to all Americans? Well, there are a lot of those folks in Congress, including nearly all Republican lawmakers, none of whom have rejected their own generous government health care plans. The United States is the only country in the developed world that does not provide affordable health care for all its citizens." --Hearst White House correspondent Helen Thomas
Will wonders never cease? "Is the honeymoon over? ... Although President Obama has been in office less than a year, many Americans are growing disenchanted with his handling of the enormous problems he and the country are facing, from health care to unemployment to Afghanistan. His poll numbers are sliding, and at least one poll shows his job approval rating has fallen, for the first time, below 50 percent." --CBS's Katie Couric
"The American people are increasingly questioning the president's credibility. He says the stimulus has saved or created 640,000 jobs, but only 7 percent of Americans believe it has created any. And he's repeatedly promised health care reform will not increase the deficit, but a mere 19 percent believe him." --CBS's Chip Reid
"The more [Obama] talks about these hard issues, the less people are buying it. ... People want something to be done about the deficit, and here he's talking about spending a trillion more dollars." --CBS News analyst John Dickerson

"I've got a real problem about expanding this war where the rest of the world is sitting around and saying, 'Isn't it a nice thing that the taxpayers of the United States and the U.S. military are doing the work that the rest of the world should be doing?'" --Sen. Bernie Sanders (S-VT)
Get outta here: "We have tried terrorists in our courts and done so very successfully in the past and that is our system. A chip off the old blockhead: "I can't understand for the life of me how the Catholic Church could be against the biggest social justice issue of our time, where the very dignity of the human person is being respected by the fact that we're caring and giving health care to the human person -- that right now we have 50 million people [sic] who are uninsured. You mean to tell me the Catholic Church is going to be denying those people life-saving health care? I thought they were pro-life. If the church is pro-life, then they ought to be for health care reform because it's going to provide health care that are [sic] going to keep people alive." --Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-UI) with something less than friendly fire toward his own church

Village Idiots
Hate is a strong word: "Don't be deceived into thinking that sending a few more troops into Afghanistan will make a difference, or earn you the respect of the haters. They will not stop until this country is torn asunder and every last dollar is extracted from the poor and soon-to-be poor. You could send a million troops over there and the crazy Right still wouldn't be happy. You would still be the victim of their incessant venom on hate radio and television because no matter what you do, you can't change the one thing about yourself that sends them over the edge. The haters were not the ones who elected you, and they can't be won over by abandoning the rest of us." --Leftist filmmaker Michael Moore penning an open letter to Barack Hussein Obama, and yet again defining any disagreement with extremist-Leftist Obama as "hate"
Patronizing the Armed Forces: "Let me be blunt: We love our kids in the armed services, but we f*#&in' hate these generals." --Michael Moore on the men and women who serve our country
Don't worry about that fake data scandal: "In the order of several thousand scientists have come to the conclusion that climate change is happening. I don't think that any of that is, quite frankly among most people, in dispute." --White House press secretary Robert Gibbs
Don't miss The Patriot's synopsis of the "Climategate" scandal here.
The BIG Lie: "Global warming is occurring at a pace roughly twice as fast as had been previously thought, so I believe if we don't change things by the end of the century, instead of going up four degrees, the earth's temperature will go up nine degrees. And if that happens, we're in trouble here. Eight percent of the whole Earth's freshwater is on top of Greenland. As it begins to melt, if it melts faster, it could change the composition of the north Atlantic and interrupt the normal flow of currents, and ironically global warming could make some places colder." --Bill Clinton, the BIG Liar
We disagree: "Stop fighting about the things we can't agree on and do something about the things we do agree on because they are unbelievably important and the things we don't agree on should not be used as an excuse anymore to avoid doing what ought to be done and we do agree on." --former DNC chief Howard Dean

"A liberal mistrusts lessons bought with experience. For him, theory is all. He's the only man who would sit down on a red-hot stove twice. That makes well-meaning Democrats marks for shysters selling health-care 'reform,' global warming and appeasement of radical Islamists." --columnist Wesley Pruden
"No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve our problems. They are trying to solve their own problems -- of which getting elected and re-elected are number one and number two. Whatever is number three is far behind." --economist Thomas Sowell
"President Obama was shown in photos Friday smiling with the couple who crashed his state dinner. The photos showed the husband, the wife and the president. If it's a crime to talk your way into the White House without a background check, all three of them could face charges." --comedian Argus Hamilton
"I have some advice for President Obama. The tough tactics being deployed against his perceived domestic political enemies should be redeployed overseas. Let me assure you that Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela are a lot more dangerous than Fox News and the health insurance industry." --columnist Bruce Bialosky
"Barack Obama [has] never seen a TV camera or a teleprompter he didn't lust after. Come to think of it, it's too bad that his administration isn't a TV show. If it were, we could at least hope it would be canceled after one season instead of four." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

The talking heads (both media and politicians) who say that we cannot have an open ended commitment to the war in Afghanistan (and Iraq) and by inference to the war on terrorism (obsolete though they consider that term}.
The Islamofascists DO have an open ended, no matter what the cost to destroying US, as well as funding from regimes who see some benefit in supporting them, or (as with our government) mistakenly believe that funds given to the "political" arm of a group never wind up in the terrorist funding "purse".
And until we realize this we cannot even hope for a wining strategy.

"...including nearly all Republican lawmakers, none of whom have rejected their own generous government health care plans." Obviously Helen Thomas is too addled of mind to remember that one Republican Congressman has introduced legislation numerous times to force Congress to participate in any health care program they pass. It has had 30+ Republican co-sponsors, and not one Democrat! They will not even let it come to the floor for debate. Helen should be put out to pasture as insignificant and irrelevant.

We can't win this War by simply defeating some of the Taliban and Terrorist in Afghanistan.
For the past 8 years or more the Islamic Jihad movement has been adding new "Cells" around the World, but especially so in Europe, and the USA.
They have been highly successful with forming these cells, and Islamic organizations,to form Terrorist and Political groups of supporters for Islam and the Jihad.
So far, the Leaders of our Free Nations have disreguarded this enormous threat, and not re-evaluated their immigration and National Security policies to handle internal terrorism and Civil disobedience. (Ft Hood is just the beginning)
We must act now, and swiftly to divert future acts on our own soil. Question is. Do we have the National leadership that will make that move quickly???????

President Obama commented during his remarks at West Point on December 1, 2009, that the war(s) in the middle-east have cost the United States nearly a trillion dollars since 9/11. I'd like him to break that down; how much would it have cost us just to maintain our armed forces for that same period, not counting OEF/OIF? Let's be 'transparent' with the taxpayers - live by the promised policies. Clearly, numbers can be 'managed' to meet political goals and objectives.

O'Bama's promise to curtail this war within 18 months is only the preparatory stage for realigning the tax payers money to go towards his countless schemes. The financial downfall and pointless direction he is assigning to the troops will please our countries adversaries. The declawing and neutering of the United States is the one objective of our enemies & current administration. Obviously people out there didn't learn how we economically brought Communism down and fought it through counter-insurgency in Afghanistan and further abroad. Economics and a war of attrition...
America must as a whole remain stronger than this and not remain complacent.

President Obama by his fruits (Matthew chapter 7, Verses 15 through 20) is known to be inwardly a ravening wolf (verse 15). His agenda appears to be antiChrist (1st John 4 verse 3,and 1st Corinthians 12:3) as well as being pro Islamic and thus a hater of his (human) brother (1st John 3 verses 11 through 15) thereby guilty by "CHOICE" of association. So too are those politicians Who condone His agenda, instead of initiating impeachment proceedings against Him for haveing already broken His vow to uphold THE Constitution of the united states. I Challenge Him to Boldly and publicly proclaim, First John 3 and verse 15. Preceded by the phrase "IT IS WRITTEN" (see Matthew 4:1 through 11. "LOUD & OFTEN"

I tuned into the President's speach last night, just to give him one more chance to get it right. I had hoped I would be pleased, but alas, he told us all where his allegiance lies! Was it just me, or did some other folks pick up on the fact that he was defending Muslims yet again? When the peace loving muslim religion (if there are any) stands up and denounces the Jihad radical muslims, I will rethink my stance. Call me a racist or whatever you want but this country was founded on Christian beliefs, and if our current President can't get his arms around that, it is going to be a long 4 years!

And enough about Chris Mathews. I know no one who doesn't think he's a complete fraud! And Michael Moore is a physical and mental glutton-no self control, so who cares what he says or thinks. More commentary by Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams would be welcome and, maybe, more productive.

The "surge" will indeed serve many of "MoaBama's" purposes:
1. Having 30,000 voters (probably the majority being politically right) out of the country during the 2010 elections will provide various devious opportunities for "problems" with counting votes. Troops can vote absentee, but how sure can we be that these votes will truly be counted, or not get "lost" somewhere. And what an opportune time for the insurgents to heat things up, right when troops might have otherwise voted? Further, when deployed, some spouses leave home base to visit family for extended periods of time, where voting absentee is a little more complicated -- perhaps not pursued at all.
2. Sending these troops into a meat-grinder with pussified rules of engagement guarentees loss of troops. And to a president who hates the (right leaning) military, that is a good thing.
3. The $1B/day cost (that I've read) to run the war, adds to the further bleeding of America's financial footing -- again, a "good thing" if your marxist goal is to "Bring it all down man!"
4. Some war suppliers certainly will benefit lucritively, which is a good thing to those with their hand in the Liberal Congress's pockets.

WHAT IF the North Pole ice caps melt and cool the Gulf Stream just a couple of degrees? The Eastern US and all of Western and (former) Eastern Europe and England would experience winters like those of the 1940s when opposing armies froze in place. During the Battle for Bastogne, temperatures fell to -60 F. Engines were left running for fear their motor oil would freeze. Even then, engines seized up. Solders had to urinate on their M-1s to dissolve ice from the actions. Soldiers used grenades to dig fox holes in the frozen ground. Back home, in America, the 1940s was a mini-Ice Age. I know. I was there. I say again, WHAT IF...? By the way, Antarctic (South Pole) ice is growing and spreading rapidly. It is the height of arrogance to presume that Congress can legislate against climate "change." (Wasn't it recently called "global warming" by those eager for world government?) Back in the 1970s, weren't we being warned in shrill, desperate tones about the catastrophe that global cooling was going to cause? Anyone with the sense of a chicken can see what Obama and his Inner Circle have in mind. They absolutely despise this nation that much.

For the sake of all that is sacred to the United States; we can never 'win' or derive a 'victory' of
any kind in a corrupt and ungrateful country like
Afghanistan. It simply boggles my mind that the
40 countries of coalition forces and their respective governments continue to deny or avoid the
evidence of history. Just ask Ghengis Khan,
the British or most recently, the Russians.
They were all eventually driven out. The Taliban
are descended from these generations of fighters.
The Taliban has time and terrain on their side and
given their 'religious' ideologies, they will never
cease in their efforts to disrupt, frustrate and
force the invader out. The corruption of this nation
is so rampant, that it will forever undermine any 'sincere' attempt on our part to introduce democracy to a tribal based political system. In the meantime, the Treasury of the United States is being drained and young soldiers are injured or return home in flag draped coffins. Where, I ask you, is the sense or justification in this madness?
$6 billion a month wasted in Afghanistan.
$12 billion a month in Iraq per month, and now
American taxpayers are supposed to support a
$30 billion troop surge? This is Viet Nam all over
again. We shall lose, fail and depart with ignominy.

I take an exception to the comment after Patrick Kennedy's 'credits' "less than friendly fire about his own church"... First, a "Kennedy catholic" is NOT Catholic in any sense of the Church. So to say "his own" church is pure misstatement! Secondly, health insurance does NOT save lives and has NOTHING to do with saving lives so how do these politicians continue to pull this sham?! THe providers of the health services provide the life-saving work...and if anyone does not know history and the facts, it happens that the Catholic CHurch provides MORE health services around the world -including IN the USA - than any other providers ; THird, the greatest social justice abomination in this world - & promoted by the USA & The Kennedys and their ilk- is the murder of children in the womb, what they want to defer as an 'abortion' or a worse excuse by wordsmiths="choice". God save us!!

First it was 20 million uninsured, then it was thirty million, now it is 40 million. I guess so, all of the people who lost their jobs have also lost their health care. What I don't understand, is why do 260 million people have to suffer with a government run health system(they can't even run Social Security, the Post Office, or Medicare right). I guess I was stupidly under the impression that Medicaid was supposed to help those who could not afford insurance themselves.

"The United States is the only country in the developed world that does not provide affordable health care for all its citizens." --Hearst White House correspondent Helen Thomas
Oh, get real! Many Canadians come to the United States because "affordable" health care is not available to them when they need it. Is Helen Thomas saying Canada is not part of the "developed world"?

Chris Matthews may go straight to hell for his remarks about our beloved soldiers and cadets being called "the enemy camp". He's not worthy of licking their boots.
Why are we not demanding impeachment of a President who refuses to uphold his oath of office, "to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" and its people? Any man who stands in front of our troops and dares to say he isn't interested in victory but in "getting it right", who refuses to mention the word "win" or "victory" when sending our brave ones into battle, does not deserve one more day in office, much less three more years.
I have never in my life been so angry as I am when I think of the scams, criminal activities, corruption and blatant abuse of power and law that this government and its justice department has pushed on our great nation!

Greetings:
You seem to have fallen in with some ba-a-a-a-d company - to wit: All those "third party advertisers" you share our email addresses with...
I've received many requests to "sign a petition" calling for one thing or another - most, if not all, that I agree with. Unfortunately, these third parties require you to provide all sorts of information. One of which is a funding source.
In other words, they REQUIRE you to make a donation to sign a petition. I can't do this since I am out of work - and have been for the past 13 months. I'd like to make a donation but cannot. I CAN, however, support "the cause" just not monetarily.
Can you get your "third party advertisers" to remove the requirement for a "donation"?
Thanks!
Gregory Hicks

There is good news out of Richmond VA concerning Colonel Van T. Barfoot's effort to fly his American Flag. The Colonel's Home Owners Association has backed off from their demand that Colonel Barfoot remove his flagpole, and have dropped a threat of legal action.
While our local politicians got involved, I believe some readers of the Patriot Post were among those who sent in the hundreds of emails the local paper received, and were probably among the reported 28,000+ "hits" on the Colonel's facebook page.
The Patriots in Central Virginia are grateful for the Patriot Post's efforts in this matter....and to its readers.

Why would anyone spend $1.7 million dollars to keep folks from seeing their birth certificate?
The U.S. Justice Foundation reports that Barack Hussein Obama has "spent a reported $1.7 million in attorney fees to fight efforts to obtain his actual birth certificate." Why would anyone with nothing to hide, spend even $100 to keep their birth certificate from being made public? Why would the President, who promised the most transparent administration in history, decline to release a document that everyone must produce just to get a passport? Who's making a mountain out of a mole hill: right wing fanatics, or the man spending $1.7 million to keep secret the one document that would silence his critics forever?

Please don't let this issue of BHO showing his birth certificate and why he hasn't shown it! I'll tell you why, because he has something to hide and he isn't a legal president! He was in "FACT" born in Coast General Hospital in Mombasa Kenya, His mother was NOT able to fly to hawaii, until several months after his birth, she was to far along to be able to fly. The airlines will NOT allow any P.G. woman to fly after so many months of preganncy. So do the mathand the facts, BHO IS an illegally elected president!!!
