"Were we directed from Washington when to sow, and when to reap, we should soon want bread." --Thomas Jefferson
Government

"What has [Scott] Brown done for us? He just administered a stunning 'Tea Party Republican' thrashing to the 'Kennedy Liberal Democrats' in Massachusetts -- with Obamacare front and center as the core issue at hand. That's what. Forget any other spin you hear -- that is what just happened. That Brown did not stress the party or the term 'tea party' does not matter. His issues were right off of the tea parties' posters and out of the official GOP platform manual. Sure, Martha Coakley ran a horrible campaign. But Democrats win safe seats with horrible campaigns all the time. Brown ran a great campaign, but good candidates lose uphill battles all the time in places like Massachusetts. And no, MS-NBC, this was not a Tip O'Neil 'all politics are local' referendum on potholes and such. Thanks to big government liberals, no politics are local anymore. Not even an obscure congressional district known as NY-23. Every single seat may now hold the key to Washington's ability to reach into the homes and wallets and lives of every American for any reason they deem necessary. And that's what this was about, with health care as the key issue but only one of many concerns about intrusive government." --columnist C. Edmund Wright
Liberty
"On December 16, 1773, several dozen colonists in Boston, angered by King George's financially ruinous tea tax, took action into their own hands. Dressed as Mohawk Indians, they snuck onto 3 British tea ships and dumped over 300 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. That revolt was said to have sparked the American Revolution. Last [Tuesday] night, the state of Massachusetts was the site of yet another revolt, only this time it was Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Democratic Party, and President Obama, health care and health care reform that were thrown into the drink, following the stunning election of Republican Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate. Yet on the eve of the election, the White House suggested ... that they would not moderate the president's policies, but in a fit of madness akin to King George's, would double down and strike a more combative tone. I have a feeling that over the next few days, the White House will want to ... amend their remarks. ... In response to the tea party protest, King George passed the 'Coercive Acts,' which was every bit as punishing as it sounds. Will King Barack respond to the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts with moderation and scrap health care or with madness and shove a coercive bill down America's collective throats?" --columnist Brian Doherty
Political Futures
"The stunning upset in Massachusetts should send shock waves through the Democratic Party nationwide. The people have spoken, yet again, with the election of Republican Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate and as such, have soundly rejected the leadership of the president and the Democratically-controlled Congress. The elections in Virginia and New Jersey this past November should have been a wake-up call for Democrats. Democratic candidates were defeated because the people thought the candidates, like the leadership of the Democratic Party, were out of touch with the needs of the citizenry. While Republicans focused on the economy, job creation, deficit reduction and responsibility, Democrats were bogged down -- almost exclusively -- on health care, blaming Bush and defending their failed economic policies. ... The Democrats set forth an agenda that was 180 degrees opposite of what needed to be done and what the American people wanted to see done. The Democrats manufactured a 'crisis' on health care, when we have an honest to goodness economic crisis and recession -- the worst since the Great Depression. ... The American people are more than disappointed with the 'change' they got this past year and are worried about their future and the condition of the economy. But it's not over, the people will continue to let their frustration be known this coming November in the midterm elections." --Georgetown University professor Bradley Blakeman

Opinion in Brief
"The Democrats have no natural majority because they have no fundamental principles -- at least none that they are willing to state out loud. They are like a drunken vagrant who emerges from the alley to cause havoc every few years. They are the perpetual toothache of American politics. To be sure, the fact that 52 percent of Massachusetts voters are racist, sexist tea-baggers -- i.e., voted for a Republican -- means only that the Democrats just went from having the largest congressional majority in a generation to the second largest. But this was 'Teddy Kennedy's seat.' And it was in Massachusetts. Now, no Democrat is safe. But the country just got a lot safer." --columnist Ann Coulter
Re: The Left
"Americans have been sick and tired of dishonest and destructive policies emanating from the Feds of both R and D varieties for longer than [Barack Obama's] single year of fiddling, and, in fact, longer than George W. Bush's eight years. For several decades, at least, Americans have been spitting mad about the state of their federal government. So, what is our current Politician-in-Chief going to do about it? ... What the president will do, in the age-old tradition of Washington, is to change the subject. He's already found new areas of the economy to attack and demonize. First up are the banks. ... Further, bad-mouthing Wall Street and slapping banks with a new fee, after handing them sacks of taxpayer cash, seems a weak alternative to not handing them sacks of taxpayer cash in the first place. Consider the failed $787 billion stimulus spending bill. Obama acknowledges it hasn't much helped Main Street. So, in his State of the Union address this Wednesday, the president will take the bold step of calling for another 'economic recovery package,' i.e. doing the same thing again. If borrowing hundreds of billions to spend stimulating an economy crippled by too much borrowing doesn't work, thank goodness there is always the option of borrowing hundreds of billions (if not trillions) more. Feeling better yet?" --columnist Paul Jacob
Insight
"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals... It does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government... It is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government." --philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand (1905-1982)
The Gipper
"Public servants say, always with the best of intentions, 'What greater service we could render if only we had a little more money and a little more power.' But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector." --Ronald Reagan
Culture
"A company well-named Neocutis now offers a skin cream made from human fetal tissue. To quote the company's Web site: 'Inspired by fetal skin's unique properties, Neocutis's proprietary technology uses cultured fetal skin cells to obtain an optimal, naturally balanced mixture of skin nutrients.' This outfit, it may not surprise Gentle Reader to learn, is based in San Francisco, and says its product can 'turn back time to create flawless baby-skin again.' What good news for those suffering from dry skin -- and who doesn't this time of year? ... But there's sure to be some reactionary who objects to progress, and a niggling objection did indeed surface here and there to this latest advance in the commodification of the unborn. In its defense, Neocutis issued a statement to all concerned: 'Our view -- which is shared by most medical professionals and patients -- is that the limited, prudent and responsible use of donated fetal skin tissue can continue to ease suffering, speed healing, save lives and improve the well-being of many patients around the globe.' And improve the company's balance sheet, too. Call it another benefit from the ever-growing abortion industry. And another triumph of supply-side economics! Create the supply and demand will follow. It does make one wonder why, if the use of human fetuses for such purposes is so unalloyed a good, the company feels the need to assure us that the practice is 'limited, prudent and responsible.' Is that a faint echo of some vestigial conscience?" --Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editor Paul Greenberg
For the Record
"Some expect Haiti's 7.0 earthquake death toll to reach over 200,000 lives. Why the high death toll? Northern California's 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake was more violent, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, resulting in 63 deaths and 3,757 injuries. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, about eight times more violent than Haiti's, and cost 3,000 lives. As tragic as the Haitian calamity is, it is merely symptomatic of a far deeper tragedy that's completely ignored, namely self-inflicted poverty. The reason why natural disasters take fewer lives in our country is because we have greater wealth. It's our wealth that permits us to build stronger homes and office buildings. When a natural disaster hits us, our wealth provides the emergency personnel, heavy machinery and medical services to reduce the death toll and suffering. Haitians cannot afford the life-saving tools that we Americans take for granted. President Barack Obama called the quake 'especially cruel and incomprehensible.' He would be closer to the truth if he had said that the Haitian political and economic climate that make Haitians helpless in the face of natural disasters are 'especially cruel and incomprehensible.' The biggest reason for Haiti being one of the world's poorest countries is its restrictions on economic liberty. ... Private property rights are vital to economic growth. ... Haiti's disaster demands immediate Western assistance, but it's only the Haitian people who can relieve themselves of the deeper tragedy of self-inflicted poverty." --economist Walter E. Williams

"I think it would be fun and also a good exercise for those of us who are going to listen to Mr. Obama's State of The Union Address on January 27th to print off this list and keep count of how many times he says the following phrases, which I lifted from Mark Alexander's essay, State of Disunion:
- "let me be clear"
- "make no mistake"
- "back from the brink"
- "signs of recovery"
- "restored our reputation"
- "fiscal restraint"
- "greed on Wall Street"
- "affordable health care"
- "relief for working families"
- "job creation"
- "inherited" as in "I inherited this mess"
And some I'd be interested hearing him say:
- "Constitution"
- "Founding Fathers"
- "Individual liberty"
I'm sure many of you could more. In any event, keeping score might be a good way to vector in on this man's next moves." --Fred
"[Mark Alexander's essay, 'Lincoln's Legacy at 200,' was very difficult for me to read because of my affection for President Lincoln. After reading it, however, so much makes sense and so many questions I had were answered. There were so many things that didn't add up in my head about the war and this period of time and why things are the way they are today. I knew that Lincoln had done things that violated the Constitution, so I chalked it up to ... 'Well, it was war.' I knew he had uttered words that showed he was racist. I never understood how someone of the caliber of Robert E. Lee could have fallen to the side of slavery even under the banner of states' rights. Now I do. I am not one who's beliefs can not be challenged by truth. No matter how devastating to my very soul, I would rather every foundational belief I stood on crumble to the ground than remain ignorantly proud on a pedestal of lies believed. Thank you for being truthful about one of my undeserved heroes." --bondroid
"Regarding the Jan. 20 Chronicle, actor John Ratzenberger is not in the Village Idiot camp. He is a Patriot who has studied the inventions and greatness of our capitalist wealth generating machine known as manufacturing and what the dismantling of that wealth generator has done to this nation. I watched him on Huckabee last fall and I promise he is not a Village Idiot." --Mark, Valley Station, KY
Editor's Reply: Several readers complained about our placement of Ratzenberger's quote in the Chronicle, however, there was a tag line before the quote that should have put it in perspective: "Sometimes Hollywood gets it right." Those tag lines are often critical -- please read them. Juxtaposed with the Meryl Streep quote right after it, the quote from Ratzenberger fit by way of saying that not all Hollywood celebrities are Village Idiots. We regret the confusion.
The Last Word
"Democratic cocooners will tell themselves that [Martha] Coakley was a terrible candidate who even managed to diss Curt Schilling. True, Brown had Schilling. But Coakley had Obama. When the bloody sock beats the presidential seal -- of a man who had them swooning only a year ago -- something is going on beyond personality. That something is substance -- political ideas and legislative agendas. Democrats, if they wish, can write off their Massachusetts humiliation to high unemployment, to Coakley or, the current favorite among sophisticates, to generalized anger. That implies an inchoate, unthinking lashing-out at whoever happens to be in power -- even at your liberal betters who are forcing on you an agenda that you can't even see is in your own interest. Democrats must so rationalize, otherwise they must take democracy seriously, and ask themselves: If the people really don't want it, could they possibly have a point? 'If you lose Massachusetts and that's not a wake-up call,' said moderate -- and sentient -- Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, 'there's no hope of waking up.' I say: Let them sleep." --columnist Charles Krauthammer

One thing that seems to be missing from our leaders is identification with their constituents. We hear both sides of the isle say we feel your pain - road apples. Until congressional pay, retirement, social security, health insurance, taxes, etc are addressed just like workers whether they are blue collar, military, corporate or CEOs, then, they will not be in touch and will have little if any idea what impact their actions have on us. As a retired military member, I had to sleep in the same conditions as my troops, eat the same "stuff" and expose myself to the same things they did. I understood what my order meant down the line. Maybe Congress should learn that lesson too.

Many commentators have mentioned consumer and investor confidence in passing. But I'd love to see a more thorough discussion of the role of confidence in revitalizing our economy.
Confidence in the future is, at the moment, impossible while what we get from Washington is new spending proposals, each more idiotic than the last.

Do you find it interesting in your words about Neocutis that they use the same words as the AGW people - a consensus of thought of the experts agree with us - "In its defense, Neocutis issued a statement to all concerned: 'Our view -- which is shared by most medical professionals and patients --..."
When I hear those words, I instantly think the opposite.
Thanks for all you do.

Trust is a two edge sword. We trust you to act on our behalf for the good of the citizenship or we trust you to act on behalf of your personal agenda without regard to the country as a whole. The Brown election was a vote demonstrating the present "trust" of the Mass voters. The "Mass Voters" put their faith in Brown to represent the citizenship. Faith has three elements. Knowledge of certain facts, belief that those facts are true and "trust" willing to risk something precious. The vote said tons as to the attitude of the Mass Voters

Before the end of its occupancy of the Oval Office comes to an end, the vast majority of Americans will have come to the conclusion that "The Self-Anointed One" is devoid of character, class, dignity, honor, integrity, morals, personal responsibility and wisdom.
What they will come to realize is that among those characteristics that stand out the most are: arrogance, excessive image of self-importance, lack of true concern for the common man, and a complete and total failure. It will eventually be considered the worst president this nation ever forced upon itself. jimmy carter will look good by comparison.

My Father-in-law brought up the fact that Scott Brown did not stress the Party. My answer to him was, "Mr. Brown wanted his stand on the issues to be heard, he wanted to get past those closed minded individuls that strickly "vote the party". If all voters looked at an individuals beliefs as well as those of his associates a Government of "We the People" will be restored.

and no one cared about the Democratic candidate.
Empty presents with bags of coal (empty promises)
were left at the polls.
Left with no hopes the people of the state gained strength like at the Boston Tea Party and showed their true colors.

Most politicians state that they will do this and do that and end up doing something entirely different than what "We the People" feel needs to be done. The only politician in the last Century that can truly be as honest and open as a politician can be would be President Ronald Reagan. The election of Scott Brown to "Ted Kennedy's Seat" is a reminder that "We the People" own this country of ours. Self-governing is the reason we created this country to begin with. Our Founding Fathers (and they had their faults as well, make no bones about it) established the "Bill of Rights" to protect us from someone in government turning themselves into a King. America is the oldest test of Democracy in existance. The question is "How much longer can we exist as a democracy without the people representing themselves?" The answer is what we are seeing today. The basis of our society, The Constitution, is being whittled away by all the Politically Correct Lawyers, the self serving politicans of both parties, that place themselves into a higher class than the people that voted them into office, all have made the Contstitution a mere shell. Now it is the time for the People to stand up and reclaim what is correctly Ours.. Our Constitution... and put God back into this country of ours. It was upon God that this Nation was founded for the freedom to practice their religious beliefs. I am just a humble Marine VietNam Veteran that believes it is time... no more politics, no more empty promises... Vote the issues, be they Democrats or be they GOP, Independent, etc., it is time for the country to come together as a country and put in people that will do what the People of the greatest nation on this small obscure backwater planet of this great universe designed by God Almighty to come again to take back our freedoms and to follow the path that leads to greatness again... In GOD We Trust... Thank you for a great publication and the honest, multi-political views that are represented herein. More than 30,000 pro-lifers marched defiantly and proudly in the most pro-abortion city in the nation. Liberals have no principles. If they have one, it is that the end justifies the means. No priciples to compromise.
Moderate to conservative Democrats might have a few principles although those might go away if someone gives them some taxpayer money for their district or state to compromise their principles.
Republicans have difficulty agreeing on what position to take on issues many times because they have a set of principles that they do not want to compromise.
Democrats and liberals can't seem to realize that Republicans are not against change, but won't compromise their principles just so the change can happen.
President Obama was the pied piper of socialism during the campaign and too many people let him lead them to believe that what he said was what he would do. And, now they know they were led in the wrong direction. And, that he has no principles other than the end justifies the means.

Ms Coulter:
The Democrats might not ever "state out loud" their fundamental principles, as you said, (and we all know that is because they are hiding them) but they have them just the same.
Problem is - no one can figure out what they are. How does it add up when the Democrats decide to spend more in the face of a budget deficit? - When they want to place taxes on business activity to further stifle business in a retracted economy? - When their stumulus program stiffs the private sector by spending debt-money to begin public works projects ahead of time (repaving roads that don't yet need to be repaved, for example)? - When they push for socialized medicine in the face of global examples of the failures of such systems? - When they levy taxes onto bailed-out banks just as those banks are paying back the bail-out money?, etc.
The common thread to nearly all Democrat fundamental principles is that their policy initiatives must cost taxpayers more money, and that the fate of that money is dictated by the Democrats. Ms Coulter, I say Democrat principles begin with three little words: me, myself, and I.
Folks, I've made this common-sense business analogy to government before: The cost of government is the overhead costs of all taxpaying family enterprises combined. Government is our overhead; we supply all the funding for its operations. The economic facts of this reality is that to follow Democrat fundamental principles is to increase our overhead, each and every time. If you want to see your family's profitability and wealth disappear then vote Democrat.

Scott Brown's victory was electric!
When you walked into the Brown headquarters in Plymouth, you knew instantly that
something big was going on. All day, every day, the place was filled with
energetic people calling potential voters and asking for their support on January 19.
Who were these volunteers? Men and women of all ages and backgrounds. Sure, there
were Republicans, but there were also union carpenters, an iron worker, an SEIU member
who refused the union's directive to vote for Coakley, Independent voters, disaffected
Democrats, and many people who had never before been involved in a political campaign.
A real cross section of the Massachusetts electorate.
Why were they there working so hard for this relatively unknown candidate for the U.S.
Senate? Here's a sampling: "We're losing our freedom!" "Things have gone too far!"
"This government is out of control and we've got to stop it!" "We have friends out of
work and they're losing hope!" "They're giving terrorists our rights...are they crazy?"
"Our health care problems can be fixed with a little common sense." "What are our kids
going to do if they keep spending, spending, spending?" "A bankrupt country can't help
anybody!" "We've got to stop these arrogant fools in Washington before they really
wreck our country!" These feelings were shared across this state and throughout this
country.
Clearly, these are deep seated reactions to the policies of the Obama Administration and
the Democrat controlled Congress. Scott Brown, and his 200,000 mile pick-up, became
the vehicles for change.
He and his team brilliantly translated the pent up emotions of millions into compelling
messages and action.
Last Sunday in Boston, the President misread the power of the message when he
dimissed Scott and his symbolic pick-up truck. Mr. President, that's not a pick-up,
it's a steamroller and its heading your way.
I don't know about you, but I slept a little better last night. When I woke up that great
tune from Oklahoma was playing in my head..."Oh, What A Beautiful Morning."
This morning, the anniversary of his first year in office, Barack Obama awakened to a
different sound...the smooth running engine of Scott Brown's pick-up truck.
Happy Anniversary Mr. President!

I believe that I have figured out their "plan B" strategy.
Last December Congress raised the federal debt ceiling by an amount so large that a scant few years ago would have equaled the total federal budget for several years. As things stand it will last only until mid February, at which point the government will be broke...unable to pay social security, Medicare, food stamps, military wages and pensions, the expenses for the war, and endless list.
Rather than figuring out the message of their defeat in Massachusetts, look for the Democrats to attach health care reform amendments to every appropriations bill.
Give them their agenda, or they will shut down the government. All the while protesting the need to do so and blaming those opposed for being heartless and uncaring about the difficulties caused.
The battle has only begun...more blood sweat and tears (Churchill style, not the rock group) lie ahead.

Before anyone gets overjoyed over the election of Brown in Taxachussets, remember there are republicans in the Senate who never blow an opportunity to blow an opportunity. All ready some RINO's are working with the democraps on a revised healthcare plan. We have all heard that history repeats. In the 1990's kommandant klinton was pushing anti-gun bills. They were tied up in the senate until Bennedict Dole made a deal with the devil on Thanksgiving Night. And remember it was Dubya and Tom Delay who pushed through Medicare Part D. Delay held the vote open in the House in violation of the rules so he could break (oops twist) enough arms. What bribe did he give the congressman that switched their votes? I am not hanging by my thumbs waiting for a republican to introduce a bill to repeal social security and medicare. Anyone know which section of the Constitution authorizes stealing from your children and granchildren (the correct name for social security and medicare)?

The San Francisco company that peddles its skin cream made from human fetal tissue, stating, 'Our view -- which is shared by most medical professionals and patients -- is that the limited, prudent and responsible use of donated fetal skin tissue can continue to ease suffering, speed healing, save lives and improve the well-being of many patients around the globe.'...reminded me of Revelation 18, after Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and Abominations of the Earth (Rev 17.5) has fallen, the kings of the earth weep and mourn because no one buys their goods anymore, which includes quite a list: gold, silver, precious stones...all the way to 'bodies and souls of men.' Then it states, 'The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment.' God's heart has always desired that none should perish, but there is a day of judgment coming when we will all give an account of our words and actions. If the answer isn't, I plead the blood of Jesus, for "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12, then like that whore of Babylon, they will perish. It is a sad commentary on the state of man.

I refer to them as the Democrap Party. Or the Democlican and Republicrat. Most times they are interchangeable.

Might I suggest we wait and see Mr. Brown's actions before we start the celebration?

Obama & his WH thugs have long embarked on ruining this country financially. Don't believe me? How much is our debt? All recent governments have disappeared because their financial system collapsed.

Mark,
Your list of phrases to look for during the State of the Union address makes me think of a college drinking game. Just how imagine how drunk you might get if you took a drink for every time he uttered one of those phrases. Probably pass out before the half way point.
Keep up the great work.

I REALLY wish y'all would stop calling it the DEMOCRATIC party...there's nothing democratic about it. If I'm not mistaken, the proper name is the democrat party.

Concerning the election of Scott Brown, two comments: First: If the Democrats think the sole issue was healthcare, they may be in for a rude awakening. That was the defining issue, to be sure, but the relentless march toward socialism was the larger issue. The national debt, national security, individual rights and liberties, and other issues were a part of it.
Second: If Republicans think the sole issue was healthcare, think the fight is won, and become complacent, they too will be in for a rude awakening. The right must continue until the tide is truly turned.

As usual, i enjoyed each comment. Especially the one on Haiti. Poor folks, yes, and a lot of blame goes to the Catholic church. There are just too many people. over there. they need to practice birth control and that would certainly help them out.

We should thank the hapless legislature in Massachusetts for pushing the panic button after Ted Kennedy died. They rushed to change the law and allow the Gov. to pick a replacement rather than to have a special election. That special election might not have included Scott Brown at all.

I am an admirer of Walter Williams, but I believe he has shot far wide of the mark in relating earthquake death tolls to economic conditions. It is far and away more closely related to population density. There is a marginal connection between population density and economic conditions, but it is not readily ascertainable.
Keynes called Economics "The dismal science." It is that in two ways. The subject matter is dismal, and so is the quality of the science by comparison with the physical and biological sciences.

Don't ask, don't tell is back on the table. I propose the Congress experiment with this policy. I'm sure they have openly gay members on their staffs, so we need to have Congress live more closely with their gay staffs. I recommend they sleep in the same tent, shower together etc. Maybe they should send their children to a camp where their children must take showers and sleep in tents with proud gay staffers who may be 10 years older than their children.
The above is not meant to be offensive, it is just a thought experiment. Let the experimentation take place somemwhere other than in the military.
Thank you.

TALK, TALK, TALK. When are we going to DO SOMETHING?!! This man has been proven to be a foreign national many times over, and yet, we let him sit in the White House! Why are we not impeaching such a poser? Why do we allow him to continually bash President Bush, but never bring up the atrocities that Clinton did? Not to mention the thousands of dollars of damage that Clinton & his staff did to OUR White house - and yet nothing was done about it? Are you all so spineless that all you can do is print retoric? IMPEACH THIS MAN, and all those who stand with him. You have let the thief in your home & run your life. STOP IT NOW!!

New Federal Bureaucracies Created in House Health Care Bill - This is the title to a list "some" of the bureaucracies under the "Office of the President" and the list goes on EPA, OSHA, IRS, etc.
STOP this OFFICE. ONLY the President and his Cabinet as originally intended by the Founders. This OFFICE is a government within a government with legislative privileges - Executive orders - and a close look reveals, all the privileges reserved to the other branches of the United States Government. The Founders established "checks and balances" in the branches of the government, Executive, legislative, & Judicial, that we, the people, would be able to have "checks and balances" (if something gets "out of hand") the other branches "call it into question". With the power now, invested in this monstrosity, "The Office of the President", we, the people, suffer with "our substance being eat out daily".
SENATE - only send "the check" for Presidential salary and for the legitimate cabinet. Everybody else will work as a volunteer or they'll get a "real job".

Today is the Birthday of the Great American Patriot General Douglas MacArthur. I have great admiration for this man who would not "speak politically correct speech" in his day which caused him to be "relieved of his Command".
BUT he has an everlasting name given to him by God, be cause he sought a righteous cause and he kept his charge.
"A charge he had to keep, a God to glorify" He paid a "price for his convictions" and God has vindicated his name.

I want to echo your comments. This country shouldn't use the term "Democratic" party any more than we should use a term such as "Republicanic" or "Republicanist". "Democrat" is the appropriate term. I think, probably years and years ago, the media started using "democratic" to try to associate that party with a democracy, and thereby gain some sort of impression advantage. And it has stuck ever since.

RE: Jan 26,2010 trial to determine Obama's eligibility to be president.
Though I personally have doubts about Obama technically being eligible to be president due to substantial suspicions about his birth right (where there's smoke there's ususlly fire), according to snopes, the information you quoted about the trial supposedly going on today is false. See the snopes link below:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/carter.asp
Now, I certainly don't know the truth behind all this but I found something interesting on the bottom of the page at the snopes link. Look at the last paragraph, as supposedly quoted from Judge Carter. The way I understand him, he dismisses the case against Obama because:
1) Obama was popularly elected by the people.
2) The plaintiffs have attacked the judiciary as being "unpatriotic and even treasonous" for not granting the plaintiffs request to unseat Obama.
I don't know but am I missing something? Isn't it undisputed that there are at least 2 versions of Obama's birth certificate out there which include differences in details and which have questionable markings and appearance? If this is true, then I would say, that in itself, constitutes sufficient doubt, which would justify the plaintiffs actions against Obama and which would require him to prove his eligibility.
I'm sorry but furthermore, if this is all true, the owness is on Obama to prove himself, and Judge Carter's comments indicate faulty reasoning for if Obama is ineligible to be president, popularly elected or not, the plaintiffs attacking the judiciary or not, the entire election would have then provably been a fraud, and consequently invalid. And Judge Carter is a federal judge?!

About the recent Massachusetts election, you quoted Charles Krauthammer who said, "Democrats, if they wish, can write off their Massachusetts humiliation ... to generalized anger. That implies an inchoate, unthinking lashing-out at whoever happens to be in power..." I would attribute Obama's election to the presidency to "generalized anger", and beyond that, "misplaced anger".

"keep count of how many times he says the following phrases" ... this is a comprehensive list, thanks, and this will be great fun. I am adding to my list one other frequent Obamism: "I will not rest... ."

With the 2010 elections looming on the horizon, we need to remember that there are 36 seats up for election in the Senate and another 435 the House, a total of 471 Senators and Representatives. Maybe there is a real message that can be sent to Washington this year; "We the People" are tired of liberal politics, both Democratic and Republican. Why not replace all 471 with true Patriots?
