The Foundation
"Man, once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the sport of every wind." --Thomas Jefferson
Vancouver OlympicsFor the Record
"NBC (which is owned by General Electric) [has begun] broadcasting the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver, Canada. ... [But some] events will be difficult to pull off. Why? There is no snow in Vancouver. And International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge knows exactly what is to blame: global warming. Rogge tells AFP: 'Global warming of course is a worry, it is a worry for the entire world.' Considering that NBC/GE has already received billions in TARP bailout cash from the Obama administration and is actively lobbying for a global warming energy tax bill so that it can receive billions more in government green-energy subsidies on top of the millions it already receives, we are sure to hear lots from NBC announcers about how the lack of snow in Vancouver is just another reason Washington needs to act now to stop global warming. But back in Washington, the global warming scare-monger crowd is singing a slightly different tune. Facing record snowfalls, Time is reporting: 'Snowstorm: East Coast Blizzard Tied to Climate Change.' But do not confuse this headline with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s column from two years ago claiming that global warming was causing 'anemic winters' in the Washington region. No snow, too much snow. It does not matter to the enviroleft crowd. For them, global warming always is to blame." --The Heritage Foundation "Morning Bell"
Washington's Birthday
In some circles, today is observed as "Presidents' Day," jointly recognizing Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, but it is still officially recognized as the anniversary of "Washington's Birthday" -- and that is how we mark the date in our shop. (Washington's actual birthday is next Monday, February 22.)
As friend of The Patriot, Matthew Spalding, a Heritage Foundation scholar, reminds: "Although it was celebrated as early as 1778, and by the early 19th Century was second only to the Fourth of July as a patriotic holiday, Congress did not officially recognize Washington's Birthday as a national holiday until 1870. The Monday Holiday Law in 1968 -- applied to executive branch departments and agencies by Richard Nixon's Executive Order 11582 in 1971 -- moved the holiday from February 22 to the third Monday in February. Section 6103 of Title 5, United States Code, currently designates that legal federal holiday as 'Washington's Birthday.' Contrary to popular opinion, no action by Congress or order by any President has changed 'Washington's Birthday' to 'Presidents' Day.'"
In honor of and with due respect for our first and (we believe) greatest president, arguably our nation's most outstanding Patriot, we include two quotes from George Washington which best embody his dedication to liberty and God. The first from his First Inaugural Address, April 30, 1789, and the second from his Farewell Address, September 19, 1796.
"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American People."
"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of Men and citizens."
These quotes aptly sum up The Patriot Post's mission and purpose.
Opinion in Brief
"Two centuries ago, King George III was told that President George Washington, who had eight years earlier turned down the opportunity to be the king of the United States, was planning to give up the presidency at the conclusion of his second term and return to his farm in Mount Vernon. The astonished monarch, who had lost a war to General Washington, said, 'If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world.' Washington did, and he was. Does anything more clearly illustrate how far we have fallen in 210 years?" --columnist Burt Prelutsky
Government
"Government is taking us a long way down the Road to Serfdom. That doesn't just mean that more of us must work for the government. It means that we are changing from independent, self-responsible people into a submissive flock. The welfare state kills the creative spirit. F.A. Hayek, an Austrian economist living in Britain, wrote 'The Road to Serfdom' in 1944 as a warning that central economic planning would extinguish freedom. ... Hayek meant that governments can't plan economies without planning people's lives. After all, an economy is just individuals engaging in exchanges. The scientific-sounding language of President Obama's economic planning hides the fact that people must shelve their own plans in favor of government's single plan. At the beginning of 'The Road to Serfdom,' Hayek acknowledges that mere material wealth is not all that's at stake when the government controls our lives: 'The most important change ... is a psychological change, an alteration in the character of the people.' This shouldn't be controversial. If government relieves us of the responsibility of living by bailing us out, character will atrophy. The welfare state, however good its intentions of creating material equality, can't help but make us dependent. That changes the psychology of society. According to the Tax Foundation, 60 percent of the population now gets more in government benefits than it pays in taxes. What does it say about a society in which more than half the people live at the expense of the rest?" --columnist John Stossel
Re: The Left
"If you've been paying attention to the left-wing punditry these days, you may be under the impression that the nation's institutions are on the verge of collapse. Or that the rule of law is unraveling. Or maybe that this once-great nation is crippled and nearly beyond repair. You know why? Because the 40 percent (or so) political minority has far too much influence in Washington. Don't you know? This minority, egged on by a howling mob of nitwits, is holding progress hostage using its revolting politics and parliamentary trickery. ... President Barack Obama, after his agenda had come to a halt, claimed democracy is a 'messy' process -- as if that were a bad thing. Actually, 'democracy' is not only messy but also immoral and unworkable. The Founding Fathers saw that coming, as well. So we don't live under a system of simple majority rule for a reason, as most readers already know. The minority political party, luckily, has the ability to obstruct, nag, and filibuster the majority's agenda. Otherwise, those in absolute power would run wild -- or, in other words, you all would be living that Super Bowl Audi commercial by now. ... [T]oday's argument that the ruling party doesn't have enough power is a reflection of a nearly spiritual belief in the wonders of government, not democracy." --columnist David Harsanyi

Political Futures
"How could such smart people do so many stupid things? That question, or variations on it, is being asked in Washington and around the country about the Obama administration. The same people who directed the campaign that defeated Hillary Clinton and routed John McCain, a campaign that raised far more money and attracted far more volunteers than any before it, have within a year come up with a legislative program that is crashing in ruins and that, to judge from recent polls, has left the Democratic Party weaker than I have seen it in almost 50 years of closely following politics. ... Team Obama failed to realize they were no longer running in Chicago or in the Democratic primaries or facing an electorate fed up with Republicans. And, more important, they failed to realize that vastly expanding government goes deeply against the American grain -- and against the basic appeal of their successful campaign." --political analyst Michael Barone
The Gipper
"There are those, of course, who claim we must give up freedom in exchange for economic progress. Well, pardon me, but anyone trying to sell you that line is no better than a three-card-trick man. One thing becoming more clear every day is that freedom and progress go hand in hand. Throughout the developing world, people are rejecting socialism because they see that it doesn't empower people, it impoverishes them." --Ronald Reagan
Liberty
"Most of us want to be fair, in the sense of treating everyone equally. We want laws to be applied the same to everyone. We want educational, economic or other criteria for rewards to be the same as well. But this concept of fairness is not only different from prevailing ideas of fairness among many of the intelligentsia, it contradicts their idea of fairness. ... This more hands-on concept of fairness gives third parties a much bigger role to play. But whether any human being has ever had the omniscience to determine and undo the many differences among people born into different families and cultures -- with different priorities, attitudes and behavior -- is a very big question. And to concentrate the vast amount of power needed to carry out that sweeping agenda is a dangerous gamble, whose actual consequences have too often been written on the pages of history in blood." --economist Thomas Sowell
Culture
"Seventeen years ago, General Colin Powell, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, helped formulate the policy that has come to be known as 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' It allows gay men and lesbians to serve in the armed forces, provided that they keep their sexual orientation to themselves. Today, Powell is in favor of repealing the policy he crafted and advocated. Well, he was right then, but wrong now. According to Powell, 'attitudes and circumstances have changed' since 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' was adopted. Sure, attitudes toward homosexuality have changed in the culture at large. But what hasn't changed is the need for 'order and discipline in the ranks,' to use Powell's own phrase, and the possible impact of allowing openly gay people to serve in the armed forces. ... The bond between men in a sound military unit is more like agape -- the love that moves men to sacrifice their lives for their buddies. ... Allowing openly gay men threatens this cohesion by raising the possibility of a different kind of love -- eros -- which is 'individual and exclusive.' 'All for one and one for all' could give way to 'sexual competition, protectiveness and favoritism,' with disastrous military consequences. Nothing has happened in the last 17 years that makes this less possible or the possible consequences less dire. All that has changed is that many Americans now see everything through the prism of 'rights.' For them, sexual rights and personal autonomy trump everything else. Thus, any opposition to changing military policy must be the result of 'bigotry' or 'homophobia.' I suspect I'm not alone when I say a military unit which openly celebrates the gay lifestyle in the trenches is not a military unit I want to serve in." --commentator and author Chuck Colson

"When I watched that Audi ad my jaw literally dropped open. Other's watching it thought it was funny or at worst cute. I was sitting there thinking to that there exist people in the nation that would LOVE to see a green police become the law enforcement of the land. Very scary indeed.
"My neighbors have been shoveling over 50 inches of snow so far (the last three snow falls) and we are going to get four more inches today of 'inconvenient truth.' Everything has been paralyzed for almost a week. God works in wonderful ways, always with a plan, yet the liberal/progressives started spinning immediately this across-the-nation record snow and cold into evidence of global warming. How one's mind can make such a connection, it is unbelievable. Liberalism is a mental disorder, to quote a famous radio talk-show host." --Ileana
"Man-made global warming is the greatest hoax of all time. It has nothing to do with the planet, and everything to do with concocting excuses for bigger government to take greater control of our lives." --MichaelSSEC
The Last Word
"In lecturing us about blowing our money, The Great Ozbama displays breathtaking gall. Given that he is blowing trillions of our money, not his, and burying us in debt as no president in history, silence on the subject would seem more reasonable. To be nit-picky about it, since he is in citing trips to Vegas as particularly objectionable, I hold in my casino chip-calloused fingers a list procured from CanadaFreePress.com of Mrs. Obama's staff and their salaries. She reportedly has a staff of 22 assistants. Yes, I said twenty-two. (Previous First Ladies' dedicated staffs were in the single digits). Michelle's little army includes a Chief of Staff costing $172,000 a year; a Deputy Chief of Staff at $90,000; a Director of Policy and Projects at $140,000; a Director of Communications at $102,000; a Deputy Director of Scheduling at $62,000; two Social Secretaries -- mysteriously, one at $65,000, one at $64,000; an Associate Director of Correspondence at $45,000, an Assistant to the Social Secretary at $36,000, and more, in total consuming $6.3-million annually thus $25-million during her 4-year term. Not to mention a make-up artist and hair stylist. I have one assistant. Answer my own correspondence. Keep my own calendar. ... Mr. President, sir, if you are going to lecture me about blowing my money in Vegas or turning down my thermostat or inflating my tires, do you think you could rein in your wife's blowing of my money just a teeny bit?" --columnist Dan Kennedy

Dan Kennedy's column (above) details only one of the heinous crimes against America's people by the mystery-man with no birth certificate and his wife.Does Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos come to your mind? In addition to her robbery of our taxpayers, he has refused to reign in Nancy Pelosi and her private Air Force that is costing taxpayers tons of money: either he is afraid of her, or he is banking on her collusion to help his get his "death-panel" law glued onto our freedom!

The current administration with it's "in your face" spending spree is typical of these of socialist leaning. Spend the peons money because they can. A weak Congress not having any concern for the people.
The line will be long to urinate on some graves.

I thank you for your covering of the news. I am of the "older generation", and cannot believe the vast changes in our freedoms that I see being removed. I pray that this nation will continue to rise up and make a REAL CHANGE in Washington DC and in some of our States that have completely endorsed this fanatic sense of government.
May we return to being a Beacon of Light and Freedom. Please continue your bringing us the updates, but also the uplifting messages.

There still exists TRUTH. A foundational TRUTH honed by those who built the Foundation of these great United States under GOD's watchful Eye and Direction. The true Citizens of these United States understand that character is lost, as the insidious movement of deceit and dumber do their dirtywork... and The People allow themselves to exist in a vacuum of their own making. If you don't wanna care...you won't. Wake up! Freedom is being erased one day at a time by the present administration. National Day of Prayer insidiously changed for a more "diverse" nothing. Military flyovers by military jet experts, who Train to honor our Military, are refused to perform because the name GOD is included in the title of the event. Look it up! It's true and just happened. After 42 years the White House changes the rules. It's happening folks. Get the word out! Save our fair Country. Save our Freedoms. Save our very lives!!! Patriot Post is where the TRUTH is published. Put it on email, Facebook, Twitter, Bing, MySpace...but put it out there. All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men and women to do nothing! May GOD bless America as we pray and STAND UP for this Country!

RE: "The Last Word" by Dan Kennedy. It seems that with a staff of 22 assistants that one of them would let Mrs Obummer know it's not appropriate to touch the queen. Maybe the President's solution will be to double their sallaries to make sure that type of mistake doesn't happen again. That's the liberal's solution to fixing problems - spend more money.

George Washington, the father of our country, was actually born on February 11 instead of February 22, the date we officially recognize as Washington's birthday.
So why do we recognize GW's birthday as the 22nd when he was actually born on the 11th?
Answer . . . England and its territories switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1752, so George shifted his birthday back 11 days.
In 1968, Congress passed the Monday Holidays Act, which moved the official observance of Washington's birthday from Feb. 22 to the third Monday in February.
George Washington's birthday was nominally on February 11, but in the Julian calendar that predated England's calendar reformation in September 1752. His birthday is equivalent to February 22 in the Gregorian calendar used today. The third Monday in a month never falls later than the 21st, so the official holiday now never occurs on his actual birthday.

I think that the lny comment we should make is what happened to Cahnge? when we spend a dollar, any more ther is no Change ! We are told to save and be frugal but now we actually have to because of all the excess taxes that are passed. In another few months retires are not going to be able to live on their Social Security. {many never have }.

Loved the short article by Dan Kennedy about Mrs. Obama's spending habits. I'm guessing that the queen of England has less staff than Mrs. Obama. So while she's blowing $6.3million of the nations hard earned cash, she may want to "schedule" some time through her deputy director of scheduling, to invest in a PDA and fire the "scheduling czar". Most PDA's are $200-$500 each, are easy to carry, don't require health benefits and don't have a salary of $62,000/year.
Mr. and Mrs. Obama- try instilling some fiscal responsibility into the nations budget before you try to tell us how to do it for ourselves. The biggest difference between your spending and our individual spending....I have to pay my own bill at the end of every month; you just tack it on the deficit of a nation. Think before you spend.

Repealing "Don't ask, don't tell"
What Colin Powell is advocating is a political paradigm shift. It seldom happens that someone responsible for creating a paradigm is able to make a shift to a new paradigm that replaces it. We are indeed experiencing a compression of time, as well as seeing a once great man caving to political correctness.

Chuck Colson's commentary about gays in the military are not ones that I, and many other clear thinking conservatives, can support. What is needed is not more discrimination against gay people, but a greater understanding of the reality that gay people are like any others in that they can love their country enough to want to help defend it. I am not gay, but have many gay friends, and understand that their lives do not revolve around their sexual preferences, nor do those sexual preferences create urges that dominate everything that they do any more than the sexual preferences and urges of straight people dominate their lives. Being gay does not make one any more or less sexually predatory than being straight. In my opinion, "don't ask, don't tell" is a dishonest policy adopted to allow those in authority to continue to bury their collective heads in the sand. Education, not discrimination, is the answer to dealing with this admittedly difficult issue.

Why should we expect any different from Mrs. Obama - she and her husband act like ordinary rules do not apply to them...that saving money is something that doesn't apply to me. As always, they talk a good game for the cameras, but when the spotlight is out, "they are going to get theirs, for they have arrived at their (not our) promised land.

The Global Warming alarmist have become ever more dogmatic in their faith and belief in the science that they claim "proves" their theories ..so much so that they make the church theologians of the middle ages look like open minded scientist. When the scientist lose objectivity and forget that science is ...must be objectively neutral...when the scientist adopt their own beliefs as the new religion they betray science, betray knowledge and ultimately betray humanity

"President's Day" is much the same as other efforts to blur history. George Wahington is perhaps the finest of our Founding Fathers, dedicated to the principles Constitutional and republican government. Abraham Lincoln was on the other hand a man prone to excessive executive power and clearly an anti-Constitutionalist. The two could not have been further apart philosophically. While Washington helped in the creation of a great state, Lincoln left a legacy of diviseness. To honor both on the same day is repugnant.

You'd think that with a 22 assistants the wife of the current occupant of the White House could find someone to show her how to not dress like someone in the middle of Spring house cleaning. At the least, she should be able to find sweaters that fit.

I am an avid reader and supporter of the Patriotpost. However I've lost a bit of confidence after reading today's brief concerning Michelle Obama's staff. While I do not doubt that she employs all those folks at our expense, the Patriotpost editorial by Dan Kennedy made it seem that she was the only one who has done that. If you search www.truthorfiction.com you'll read the entire story and find that Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton are at least 2 first ladies who also employed the same large staff in the White House. It's an obscene amount no matter which party occupies the White House. But please PatriotPost, check the truthfulness of what you print before putting it out as fact.

Regarding Mrs. Obama's staff of 22 overpaid assistants in The Last Word; to the average leftist, Mrs. Obama is simply doing her part to stimulate the economy. She is creating some of those "millions" of new (or saved) jobs. In the world of reality, where most of us live, she is actually creating more OVERHEAD.

I read almost a year ago in the UK's `Independent´ that there was a big prob in many London neighborhoods with do-gooders inspecting others' bins to ensure trash-vs-recyclable compliance. Sadly, I have lived in a few locales in the US where some also had enough time on their hands to attempt a forced, proper attendance to Mother Gaia. These are presumably the same who spend $70. on a trendy garden trowel.

In today's Yahoo news and comments there are 7 states listed without a state income tax. Among the reasons listed are women's wages(the dollar factors given seem to have no relationship). If people would look away from no Income tax, they would find higher taxes on everything else, including property taxes in Texas. Governments will collect the money, it does not care from which of your pockets but it will collect. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

"The Last Word" by Dan Kennedy. I'm not a Democrat by any sense of the term, but do the math folks. If Mrs. Obama's had 22 staff members and they made $6.3 million annualy; they would average $286,363.63 each annually. According to all the records I've seen; she actually has 24 staff members and they make $1.6 million annualy. Laura Bush had between 24-26 at the end of her husbands term. LBJ and Betty Ford had 30 and Jackie Kennedy had 40. You may be interested in visiting http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/firstlady.asp for the facts.

When this President was elected, I wagered with a co-worker whether he would govern from the center (as a Post reader, I knew better). The winner would be named at the end of the hundred days. Though my coworkers are highly educated and intelligent, many including managers said I would lose the bet. I think this reflects the illusion that so many were under by the hopeychangey campaign. Almost before the swearing in, my counterpart was conceding the bet - he paid out prior to term. Unforunately, that was the most expensive dollar I ever received.

The reason for no snow in Vancouver is not because of Global Warming! Vancouver, like Seattle and Portland is in a subtropical rain forest. And like all rain forests, it RAINS. A lot. Why anyone is mystified that there isn't much snow there is a total idiot and needs to look at the area from the last millennium. I used to live in Olympia and Seattle. You rarely see the sun for more than a few minutes for months on end. Why do you think the suicide rate is so high there. You get warm moist air from Hawaii and cool air from south of Alaska that converges over Bellingham. Everything from Portland north along the coast is wet with rain except in the mountains (Whistler) where it actually does snow.

Through the rigorous application of logic, I have become a believer in the theory that global warming (hot air) leads to otherwise unexplainable cold. I have plotted the speaking engagements of Mr. Al Gore and have found that as soon as he announces that his hot air will be released at a location, the coldest weather in recent history is the result. Release of excessive hot air leads to cold. I am a firm believer now!

Not wanting to be a conspiracy theorist, but isn't it quite a benefit for GM (aka Government Motors) that the reputation of the company recently replacing it as world's largest auto manufacturer (not to mention number one green car maker) is now in shambles? Mr. Colson; You are exctly correct. Mr.Powell, like sailing craft, goes with the wind. Homosexuality has existed since human evolvement. Distrust of homosexuals has existed from that same moment. To accept open homosexual behavior in the military is to contravenes leadership. Men will follow leaders they respect into the hell of battle. Respect is earned by trust. Homosexuals do not inspire trust.
High ranking military, politicians, often 'follow the wind', as Mr. Powell. Ask those in the ranks, that have, perhaps, expericnced homosexual advances. Permit this abomination, and the volunteer military will cease to exist.

As a former US Army Engineer and 17 yr vet, there aint no stinkin way I'd bunk with an individual who was allowed to be openly homosexual. If DoD allows open homesexuality in the ranks then all they'll have is homos in the military.

Concerning Abraham Lincoln. Which section of the Constitution says a state can not secede? In the 155 years since the Northern War of Aggression (oops civil war) started has anyone found that section?

Not wanting to be a conspiracy theorist, but isn't it quite a benefit for GM (aka Government Motors) that the reputation of the company recently replacing it as world's largest auto manufacturer (not to mention number one green car maker) is now in shambles? I understand the problem with the brakes is a software problem. I wonder if this problem is unique to Toyota, or to other car manufacturers.

I have been an Agnosic most of my life, but the weather in Washington D.C. has made a real believer out of me now.
God, is there and he (or she) has a wonderful sense of humor.

John Stossel makes such a big point in his single paragraph essay included herein under the "Government" heading. If only every American could or would read and understand it, then maybe much of the 60% of us would be shamed into curtailing their selfishness, and we could all put pressure on congress to make some real, equitable policy changes.
Everyone should be sure to read John's essay. Thanks, Mark, for including it.

I just sent Audi a nastygram telling them that I don't find Socialism cute or amusing. I thought they were in business to make money in our Capitalistic society? Perhaps others could remind them why they are in business too.

Regarding Michelle Obama's staff, I recall, when voting, having a choice between McCain and Obama. I do not recall seeing Michelle Obama anywhere on any ballot and would be willing to bet that not a single vote was cast for her any where in the United States. I also cannottake to lay my finger, to coin a phrase, on any law that gives the First Lady to appropriate from the public treasury monies for any purpose. Correct me if I am wrong. If I am correct then she, and her husband, appear to be guilty of embezzelment.
I invoke the right to Citizens Arrest.

I am a retired USAF NCO who served 16 years in the Air Force and 4 years in the US Navy and it really burns me to hear all these experts say that times have changed and its time to stop Don't Ask--Don't Tell policy. I just wonder how many of them has had to live in a small comfined space aboard a ship or even in a tent where there is very little if any privacy. I have lived in open bay barracks, tents, sleeping compartments with 60 other males and I don't like the idea of showing my body to a homo to check me out. What is an abomination in GOD's sight is wrong and just because the Sec.of Defense or the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff thinks its now time to make a change and who never did or never will be put into a situation like the common ordinary GI will be faced with. I love my country but to have people that want to compromise our long held standards is wrong and will only destroy the morale of the American men and women who want to serve this country

Spending the money of others without their express permission is just another way to spell "STEALING". Michelle Obama's outrageous budget is just one more way those in federal government are stealing other people's money. May God have mercy on us and illumine the mind's of the American citizenry to this chicanery and that right soon.

There isn't anything such thing as global warming.
It's a hoax. We do have four seasons:
Spring, where it starts getting warmer
Summer, it does get hot
Fall, starts cooling off.
Winter, it gets cold.
This global warming or as they want to call it now climate change is just to steal your money by higher
energy prices. Obama wants to spread the wealth around by taking ours.

Don't ask, don't tell:
Homosexuality was common place and acceptable in ancient Greece; it was common place but NOT acceptable by citizens of the Roman Republic.
The Roman military was an honorable career during those Republic years but any hint of homosexuality among the legions meant immediate death. Maybe Caesar knew it would only destroy 'order and discipline in the ranks,' to use Powell's own phrase!

Colson has it right and well said. The important difference between agape love and eros says it all in a nutshell.
Joe Lang joins the ranks of those marching boldly forth with the New and Improved Culture Club, too ready to dismiss the greater wisdom of our forebears. What greater education do I need? I've had gay friends, respected and loved, with out fear or hate. I confess having preferred those able to reciprocate the respect by minimizing the issue in my presense, as a simple understanding of interests.
As a non-golfer I need know nothing of your handicap or your last game. I don't play, so why waste your breath?
Certainly anyone in a work environment, which the military is in quite absolute terms, can appreciate that sex (homo or hetero)is an issue to be left to the off hours. The important distinction is that the military doesn't always HAVE off hours.
Charlie C has it exactly right.
A man stands up willing to put life and limb on the line for his country and you want to subject him to this complete destruction of the necessary atmosphere of brotherhood?
Who are these self-flattering elites who at every safe distance from the front wish to "educate" every G.I. Joe to lend whole second meaning to saying "watch my back".

The average salary for working Americans is $42,000. The average salary for a federal government employee is $75,000. The average salary for a federal government supervisor is $110,000. The problem is that RINOs have spent so much money in and of themselves that for them to complain about the Obamas' and the Commiecrats' spending would be like the pot calling the kettle black. (Am I going to get in trouble for that last statement?)

Gee, if there are any vacancies in that Sub Cabinet, I never had a cushy high paying job.... and would like one.
My qualifications are that I Graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Hard Knocks. With over 70 years of experience.
Does it offer paid vacations? Expense Account? Health Plan, a Car?
and an Airplane for far away trips? do I get my own office? And a personal secretary?

"If people would look away from no Income tax, they would find higher taxes on everything else, including property taxes in Texas. Governments will collect the money, it does not care from which of your pockets but it will collect. There is no such thing as a free lunch."
The difference, Mr. Shell, is that one must earn a salary to survive but owning property is an option. Property taxes o.k., income taxes NOT o.k.

The paragraph by Chuck Colson about gays in the military brought up a good point, and possibly a good solution:
With Eros replacing Agape, it leads to the very reasons female troops are still not allowed to participate in forward battle. So, perhaps the solution (if gays serving openly in the military truly is "inevitable") is to keep them OFF the front lines, like the female troops; and perhaps allow them to serve in their own "special" units.

Richard Nixon, along with a great many errors in judgment of a personal nature, did the cause of patriotism a great disfavor when he signed the Exec. Order that made Mondays the preferred holidays throughout this country. Bowing to the pleas of the retail and educational lobbies he determine that three day weekends were of far more importance to the growth of this republic than an appreciation and celebration of our patriotic holidays. In my youth I stood solemnly in the local cemetery bursting with the remains of our valiant veterans, while listening, hand on heart, to a call to remember and learn from their sacrifices. Now I am numbed by the continuous calls to sales from retailers who, laughing all the way to the bank, don't even know what we memorialize on Memorial Day, honor on President's Day, and commemorate on Armistice (Veterans') Day. Our students have no sense of loyalty to a cause limping to obscurity or a country giving out more than it demands. As an 81 year old first generation American citizen, I still get a lump in my throat and a tear glistening eye when I recall singing with understanding, not just vigor, "This is my country, land of my birth". But then the singing reflected the joy of freedom and the remembrance of effort spent on my behalf. Would that the Executive Order could be rescinded and we could see through the smoke of greed, reaching out for a devotion to God and country, the foundation from which it all sprang.

What a wonderful post, Mr. John Zee. You, sir, were privileged to live in an America, that wasn't centered on "themselves". Now, everything is predicated on "My Convenience".
And furthermore, our enemies have taken advantage of changing this Beloved Country from our Glorious History to a "play-shop day".
This might give you some hope. Last night, at our LOCAL County Commission, I commemorated the Birthday of George Washington, read part of his 1789 Inaugural address (Bible open on Deut.28, the Blessings and the curses) where at the end, he kisses the Bible and proclaims "SO HELP ME GOD." Then I read to them his most remarkable statement, "It is impossible to rightly govern a Nation without God and the Bible."
"Stick by the STUFF", the glitter and tinsel have no substance and the Foundations will soon be a "sought after commodity"(by the Grace of God). All the "GRANTS" are now burdensome, as that is what happens when God is left out and the "boundaries broken".
Imagine, God gave us such Wonderful Leaders as Washington and the Veterans who have done their duty
to preserve for us, FREEDOM and then allow in 1963, the atheist O'Hare to stand before the Supreme Court and take prayer and Bible reading from the Public School. The Court should have stood on the 1892 ruling that declared, "We are a Christian Nation" by virtue of our Foundations.
FIX IT, REVERSE that ruling. Stop this "vacation plan of convenience" back to the commemoration of our True National commemorations, that generations might ask Why do we do this????? Exodus 10:2, "And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them"; That ye may know how that I AM the Lord."

What is required to change the RNC? Candidates should subscribe to "first principles" of a party to be endorsed as that party’s candidate. I would love to see the elimination of parties and voting based on the character and principles of a candidate, but our distorted system seems incompatible with that notion. So how do we reform the system? How do we institute a process where dissenters are disowned to find another banner to fly over their confused positions?
Left-leaners would never public their principles because they are incompatible with our constitution. But right-siders are unable to regulate their candidates to maintain "Reagan-like" principles (see Sen Gregg's comment on Health Care Reform—it’s still un-Constitutional).
I'm a centrist because I think that is what Constitutional Conservatism is. I'm not radical. I'm not extreme. But I ascribe to "first principles" and find them to be "common"-sense and tested for success by our founders.

I walked a few days ago past the low fence surrounding Arlington National Cemetery. It was a freezing day with blustering winds - a sea of tomb markers were almost completely buried by pristine snow - so cold, white, desolate, and seemingly forgotten in more ways than one - all tombs of the "unknown" interred twice. My heart ached for those brave soldiers who sacrificed so much for us. Do we still cherish, honor, and respect their sacrifice?

Email that I received recently....
Now this is a real class act!!!
I once said that some people take their football and the fighting for their alma mater way too serious in the "big" picture of life, a game should be a game, with good sports, no hard feelings and being an adult. This was sent to me by a friend, and sort of points that out.
Just prior to the start of the Air Force-BYU football game, Sept. 22, 2009, this video was broadcast in the BYU stadium in Provo, Utah. Later, the USAF Academy Superintendent, LtGen Gould, showed this clip to the faculty and staff. He told everyone that BYU ran it minutes before the kickoff at the game. He was clearly moved by it, as were those who watched it. BYU is a class act.
