Ground Zero Mosque: Rights vs. Right

Why is the Ground Zero mosque a good idea?

The controversial plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero in New York City has been simmering under the surface for some time, but it finally boiled over this week. The Cordoba Initiative is the organization planning to build a 15-story Muslim "cultural center," now called Park51, just two blocks from the hole in the ground that was the World Trade Center ... a hole in the ground created by terrorists who murdered 3,000 Americans in the name of Islam. And some "tolerant" leftists wonder why so many Americans are upset.

Barack Obama couldn't help but step into the fray. "Let me be clear," he began, "As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances." The president certainly has a keen sense of the obvious.

Of course they have the right to practice their religion and even build their mosque wherever appropriate. No serious critic is suggesting otherwise. What we are saying is that such mosques are symbols of Muslim military triumph and that this one is a slap in the face of every American -- particularly those who lost loved ones on 9/11.

As Peter Kirsanow of National Review writes, "[U]nlike the president, when his fellow Americans think of the construction of a mosque on Ground Zero, their view doesn't begin and end with the First Amendment and local zoning ordinances. Rather, their view is of images that the mainstream media has done their best to airbrush out of our collective consciousness: Americans leaping out of windows and plunging -- seemingly interminably -- to their deaths to avoid incineration; first responders pulling charred remains from the smoking rubble of the collapsed towers; New Yorkers searching frantically for evidence that loved ones escaped the horror."

Obama's statement was also taken as endorsement of the project. However, when that didn't poll well, he was forced to backtrack. "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there," he later waffled. Perhaps such comment is above his pay grade.

Meanwhile, the mosque's imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, told "60 Minutes" on Sept. 30, 2001, "I wouldn't say that the United States deserved what happened [on 9/11], but United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened." That would be the same view held by Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, who thundered, "America's chickens are coming home to roost." Is it that much of a leap of logic to conclude it's Obama's view too?

For her part, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wants critics investigated. "[T]here is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some," she complained. "I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded. How is this being ginned up...?" To a leftist who obviously feels little love for America, of course opposition is "being ginned up."

The Cordoba Initiative says the project is about "peace and healing." If that's the case, the "center" should be interfaith and renamed. Spain's Cordoba Caliphate was an era Muslims consider especially glorious for Islam. Furthermore, lead developer Sharif El-Gamal says the proximity to Ground Zero is not an issue. Has he looked at the news lately? As they say in real estate, "location, location, location." Indeed, that's the reason that while he may have a right to build the mosque, it's not the right thing to do.

Open Query

"Why is it a good idea to build a fancy new mosque just two blocks from the site of an act of mass murder that was committed in the name of Islam? Ask this question, and the response is almost certain to be some combination of verbal abuse ('Bigot! Un-American!') and airy abstractions about freedom of religion. No one seems to have a real answer to the question." --Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto

News From the Swamp: Those Lame Ducks

House Democrats this week voted down a proposal to prevent a lame-duck legislative session after the midterm election -- when many of its members no doubt will have been voted out of office. Democrats have made no secret of the fact that they intend to use the lame-duck session in November and December to ram through new bills that they didn't get to earlier in the year, among them a series of tax hikes possibly recommended by Barack Obama's debt commission, new entitlement spending and so-called "climate change" legislation. Allowing members of Congress who have been voted out to continue to craft new and groundbreaking legislation that the majority of Americans do not want brings the "Democratic" party to a new low in its subversion of the democratic process. It now seems that even elections can't protect Americans from the damage that can be done by politicians in Washington.

New & Notable Legislation

The government spending spree continued last week when the House came back from recess and voted 247-161 to pass a $26 billion bill to bail out public schools and Medicaid programs in 30 states. The $16 billion Medicaid portion funded a program to aid state governments in meeting their payment obligations. The program was supposed to expire at the end of this year, but many states built the federal grants into their budgets, assuming that the free money would keep coming. If the federal government didn't provide the money, numerous state programs would become insolvent. The $10 billion school aid was nothing more than a payoff to teachers' unions that claim the money will save 100,000 teaching jobs. In an era of ironclad public sector job security, the notion of 100,000 public school teachers being laid off is preposterous, a lie told by people who have lied for so long that they have lost all touch with reality.

This subtle blackmail by spendthrift state governments and public sector unions was paid for by a mixture of promised cuts to the food stamp program and tax increases on businesses that compete overseas. The food stamp cuts will never take place; members of Congress are already talking about kicking that can further down the road. However, the taxes will certainly become reality as Congress takes yet another opportunity to punish the only sector in the economy that can actually create job growth.

First Lady Michelle Obama's pet project -- childhood obesity -- received some support in Congress in the form of an $8 billion child-nutrition bill that supposedly will be paid for in part by more cuts to the food stamp program (see item above). Built-in benefit increases for food stamp recipients would expire earlier than originally scheduled, but some Democrat lawmakers hope they can find a way to keep the increases in place. Other liberals are not pleased that one entitlement is being trimmed for the sake of another, and they have promised to oppose the funding scheme.

Income Redistribution: Report Reveals Obama Propaganda Machine

It's been said that if you tell a lie often enough, the people will eventually accept the lie as truth. Perhaps the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), understands this better than most because last week he issued a hard-hitting report on the usage of "propaganda initiatives" (on the federal dime, no less) by Barack Obama and his administration.

Obviously government propaganda is not new, particularly as a tool in wartime for the American effort. However, the depth and scope of issue-based leftist infiltration of purportedly "mainstream" media outlets, particularly in the entertainment industry, makes Issa's report both timely and revealing. Instead of pursuing the war against Islamic terror through these means the government seems to be waging its war on the nation's producers and conservative causes in general and en masse.

Artists for health care, actors and writers for volunteerism, "new media" specialists at the Justice Department attacking bloggers advocating limited government, the First Lady's promotion of initiatives -- all are just cogs in a great Democrat machine advocating more government control on our lives. In this battle for the hearts and minds of the American people, the truth is the first target.

In other wealth distribution news, Aug. 19 marked "Cost of Government Day" as measured by Americans for Tax Reform. ATR defines it as "the day on which the average American has earned enough gross income to pay off his or her share of the spending and regulatory burdens imposed by government at the federal, state, and local levels." It took 231 days this year to pay for the cost of government -- an extra month more than in 2008 before Obama took office. According to ATR, "In other words, in 2010 the cost of government consumes 63.41 percent of national income." Astounding.

From the Left: Blagojevich Guilty on Just One Count

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, was found guilty Tuesday of one count of making false statements to the FBI in its investigation into whether he tried to sell the Senate seat held by Barack Obama after the latter was elected president. The jury failed to reach a verdict on 23 other counts of corruption. Blagojevich was on tape talking about the appointment to fill Obama's former Senate seat saying, "I've got this thing and it's f---ing golden and I'm not just going to give it up for f---ing nothing." It seemed to be a convincing case, but U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald couldn't close the deal on extortion, racketeering, conspiracy and other charges.

Perhaps that was because, at least on several charges, one lone holdout refused to convict. As the trial began, ABC's affiliate in Chicago described that juror -- now confirmed to be Jo Ann Chiakulas -- as "a black female believed to be in her 60s, is a retired state public health director who has ties to the Chicago Urban League. She has handed out campaign literature for a relative who ran for public office. She listens to National Public Radio and liberal talk radio shows." That last part is redundant. No wonder she held out in favor of her fellow Chicago politico.

Defense Secretary Gates to Retire?

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates this week signaled his intention to resign his post before the end of 2011. Or has he? Gates has previously spoken publicly about wanting to retire to his home in Washington State but has been persuaded to stay on the job. As Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell pointed out, "This is not Secretary Gates announcing his retirement. I would remind you all that every time Secretary Gates has seriously considered hanging it up for good, he ultimately has decided to keep serving." White House spokesman Bill Burton said Gates has served with distinction but declined further comment. With DC being DC, rumors of possible successors immediately started swirling. Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), a veteran, and Michele A. Flournoy, undersecretary of defense for policy, were mentioned.

Secretary Gates's tenure has been at best somewhat of a mixed bag for the country. Gates, a former director of the CIA, was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2006 to succeed Donald Rumsfeld and oversee the U.S. troop surge in Iraq that has been credited with turning the war. However, Gates, who agreed to stay on as SecDef under Obama, has also stuck to Obama's plans of near total disengagement with Iraq by the end of 2011, leaving a still-struggling Iraqi government to fend for itself against the jihadis. In fact, the last U.S. combat brigade -- 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division -- left Iraq this week, nearly seven and a half years after the U.S. invasion. The move formally ends Operation Iraqi Freedom, though 50,000 troops will remain as trainers and advisers through 2011. We certainly hope Iraq is successful on its own.

Additionally, Gates has proposed eliminating or shrinking what are, arguably, the armed services' highest-priority programs, including the Navy's DDG-1000 destroyer, the Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter, the Army's Future Combat System, and the Marines' Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, all programs vital to maintaining America's ability to project power and protect global lines of communication. Add his proposal for additional defense cuts of $100 billion over the next five years and it would appear that Gates intends on leaving the U.S. with a hollow, Carter-esque military force, which can only embolden America's enemies. That would be a sad legacy for a once noble servant of the United States.

Justice to Sue Arpaio?

"Justice Department officials in Washington have issued a rare threat to sue Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio if he does not cooperate with their investigation of whether he discriminates against Hispanics," reports The Washington Post. Of course, the threat comes just weeks after Justice's suit against Arizona over its immigration law.

According to the Post, "A federal grand jury in Phoenix is examining whether Arpaio has used his power to investigate and intimidate political opponents and whether his office misappropriated government money." Arpaio is a 78-year-old Republican who has been re-elected four times since 1992. He has become famous for his chain gangs and the pink underwear he forces inmates to wear. He is also tough on illegal immigration, which, no doubt, is why Attorney General Eric Holder said in March that he expects the inquiries to "produce results." In our humble shop, that sounds like out-and-out political intimidation.

Two Free Speech Cases Decided

A three-judge panel on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that a law prohibiting false claims of military honors is unconstitutional. According to the Associated Press, "The Tuesday ruling involves the case of Xavier Alvarez, who falsely claimed in 2007 to have won a Congressional Medal of Honor [sic]. He was charged with violating the federal Stolen Valor Act, which makes it a crime to falsely claim to have won a military medal."

The majority wrote, "[G]iven our historical skepticism of permitting the government to police the line between truth and falsity, and between valuable speech and drivel, we presumptively protect all speech, including false statements, in order that clearly protected speech may flower in the shelter of the First Amendment." So John F. Kerry is safe.

Meanwhile, Chief U.S. District Judge Fernando Gaitan ruled this week that the wackos at Westboro Baptist "Church" in Kansas can continue protesting at military funerals with signs such as "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers." Gaitan struck down a Missouri law aimed at stopping the vile protests. "Although plaintiff's speech may be repugnant to listeners, the court finds that, at a minimum, some of plaintiff's speech is entitled to constitutional protection," Judge Gaitan wrote. As with the Ground Zero mosque, the right to do something doesn't mean it's right to do it. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear a similar case involving a Westboro protest in Maryland. Oral arguments begin Oct. 6.

Iran Announces 10 More Uranium Sites

Iran announced on Monday that construction will soon begin on the first of 10 future uranium enrichment sites. Iran initially announced plans for 10 more enrichment sites in September 2009, after the existence of its second such site at Qom was revealed. While not specifying the new site's location, Iranian officials claimed it would be built deep inside a mountain, like the Qom site, a design feature that serves only one purpose -- protection from attack. Iran still claims that all of its nuclear facilities are meant for peaceful uses, and that it doesn't have any aspirations of developing nuclear weapons. Former International Atomic Energy Agency director Mohamed ElBaradei could not be reached for comment.

Elsewhere in Iran, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant appears on the verge of being fueled and going operational thanks to our Russian friends. Patriot readers may recall that Russia insisted the Bushehr NPP be exempted from UN Security Council Resolution 1737 and all succeeding UN resolutions on Iran's nuclear program, allowing Russia to continue final construction, testing, and now fueling the reactor. The Bushehr plant is a western-style pressurized light-water reactor, and as such is not a pressing proliferation concern. Its spent fuel rods will eventually yield plutonium, but the process of extracting and then re-processing the plutonium into weapons is likely to remain beyond Iran's technical capability for many years. However, Russia's willingness to step up and fuel the reactor is a poke in the eye for American and UN efforts to gain Iranian compliance with its treaty obligations and indicates that Russia still sees value in supporting miscreant nations to cause trouble for the United States. How's that "Reset Button" working out, Hillary?

Around the Nation: BP Paying Dues for Gulf Spill -- So Are Oil Workers

After the Deepwater Horizon disaster, the Obama administration made BP an offer they couldn't refuse -- the oil giant would supply $20 billion for an "independently" managed trust fund to satisfy future damage claims and reimburse state and local governments for clean-up costs resulting from the spill. The government's "BP windfall" would come from revenue of future oil production in the Gulf out of the nearly 150 producing wells BP either owns or holds a stake in, at a cost of $5 billion a year until the government fund is made whole. Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) was right when he called it a "shakedown." Too bad he apologized.

In the meantime, drilling in the Gulf is becoming more problematic as the arbitrary and capricious government-enforced moratorium on new exploration keeps rigs idle and oil industry workers on the unemployment line. These same workers weren't on the agenda when Obama visited the region last weekend for a cinematic dip in the Gulf à la Slick Willie (he actually swam in an inland bay) before jetting off to do some fundraisers and a trip to Martha's Vineyard.

While the BP fund is set aside for the use of parties directly affected by the spill, the Gulf oil industry affects many areas barely touched by the now-capped undersea gusher. Obama's visit to Florida to promote Gulf tourism may be good for that industry, but the economic viability of the region as a whole continues to suffer as the oil explorers sit idle or relocate equipment to areas where new drilling is still allowed.

Regulatory Commissars: ObamaCare Rationing

The Food and Drug Administration became the first regulator under ObamaCare to make cost conscious rationing decisions that take away individual choice from Americans. Last month, an FDA advisory board recommended withdrawing government approval of the cancer drug Avastin because its $88,000-per-year cost outweighed the benefits of helping one third of advanced breast cancer patients stay alive. Removal of FDA approval will also remove the drug's eligibility for coverage of breast cancer under most private insurance plans as well as for Medicare. Quixotically, the drug remains (for now) approved for colon, lung, kidney and brain cancer, earning $855 million in revenue each year in the United States.

It's unclear how government bureaucrats (none of whom appear to be cancer survivors) quantified rationing away patients' 1-in-3 chance of increasing survivability because they thought the benefit of surviving didn't justify the costs. The bureaucrats certainly didn't reach out to the patients or their families to learn their thoughts.

The FDA's final decision will come down in September. We can only hope that future ObamaCare death panels aren't populated by similar Kevorkian-esque bureaucrats concerned more with costs than care.

China Surpasses Japan as World's Number Two Economy

In the global economic race, China has officially edged out Japan as the world's Number Two economy, based on gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter. Citing China's "spectacular" growth compared with Japan's history of "stagnant growth," the Associated Press reports that in the second quarter of 2010, China's GDP was $1.335 trillion while Japan's was $1.286 trillion. This, the AP says, "underscore[s] China's emergence as an economic power that is changing everything from the global balance of military and financial power to how cars are designed."

According to the Heritage Foundation, however, the news is, well, yawn-worthy. Heritage Research Fellow for Asia Economic Policy Derek Scissors writes that while China now leads Japan, the former "repeatedly revises its own GDP higher and is still missing some service sector and rural transactions," meaning "[i]t probably passed Japan several years ago. Also, GDP calculations adjusting for different prices within economies -- known as purchasing power parity -- indicated China's economy was larger than Japan's as early as 1995. This is old news."

Scissors notes that more than GDP, individual wealth supports economic development. Here Japan ranks approximately 40th in personal income, while China's per capita GDP still amounts to only 15 percent of U.S. levels. Bottom line: Until personal wealth in China catches up to GDP, all the hubbub may be just overblown hype.

Faith and Family: What Next for Prop 8?

As we reported two weeks ago, U.S. Judge Vaughn Walker declared California's Proposition 8, defining marriage as between one man and one woman, to be unconstitutional. In doing so, this one judge overturned a measure approved by 52 percent of California voters in 2008 and upheld by the California Supreme Court in a 6-1 ruling.

While Judge Walker's ruling would have lifted the stay on same-sex marriages on Aug. 18, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals extended the stay until that court could hear the case. The panel also set an expedited schedule for hearings and asked lawyers to address the issue of which parties have legal standing to appeal. Without a proponent for Prop 8 who has standing, the legal right to speak in favor of the proposition, there can be no appeal, and Judge Walker's decision will stand. The case was brought against the State of California, and both Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown so far have declined to make an appeal of Walker's decision. Some believe that California state law gives initiative proponents a right of appeal.

It's a shame that an issue, with broad ramifications as this one has, could be decided by default. It's possible that any ruling on standing will go to the Supreme Court. For now, briefs are due to the Ninth Circuit by Sept. 17 -- Constitution Day -- and oral arguments will begin Dec. 6.

Judicial Benchmarks: Court Upholds ACORN Funding Ban

The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the law Congress passed last year preventing federal funds from going to the community organizing group ACORN. Readers will recall that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now was caught red-handed last year advocating prostitution and tax evasion -- all while benefiting from millions of tax dollars. In a unanimous decision, the three-judge panel overturned Eastern District Judge Nina Gershon's ruling that de-funding ACORN was unconstitutional and constituted punishment without trial, and they remanded the case back to Judge Gershon "for further proceedings as to the plaintiffs' First Amendment and due process claims."

In the court's opinion, Judge Roger J. Miner wrote, "Although the appropriations laws may have the effect of alienating ACORN and its affiliates from their supporters, Congress must have the authority to suspend federal funds to an organization that has admitted to significant mismanagement."

Representing ACORN is the quizzically named Center for Constitutional Rights (quizzical in that the group's mission holds as equal the Constitution and the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights). The Center's legal director, William Quigley, has promised to request a hearing before the full circuit, noting, "We have high hopes that this is not the final word on this issue." Speaking for those who would rather not fund brothels and tax cheats, we have high hopes that it is.

And Last...

Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and has long been a champion of quasi-government-run mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In 2002, for example, when Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) warned of the danger the two posed to the mortgage market, borne out by the 2008 collapse, Frank said, "I do not regard Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as problems. I regard them as assets." In 2007, he complained about "the insistence of some economic conservative fundamentalists in the Bush administration who, to be honest, don't think there should be a Fannie Mae or a Freddie Mac."

He changed his tune significantly this week, however ... just before his re-election bid heats up. "They should be abolished," Frank said of Fannie and Freddie. "They only question is what do you put in their place." Yes, that is the $64,000 question. Frank's suggestion is, "If we want to subsidize housing then we could do it upfront and let the budget be clear about that." In other words, we should no longer disguise socialist housing policies inside Fannie and Freddie, but short of that, we're glad to see that Frank has come around. The only surprise is that he would want to can anything called "Fannie."

Everything you said make sense, what does not make sense is not mentioning the Greek Orthodox (Christian) Church that was destroyed by the Twin Towers when they fell. The Port Authority has not allowed the rebuilding of this Church, yet "fast tracked" the Muslim Memorial to the attack. If there was a real reaching out and tolerance the destroyed Church would have been rebuilt long ago, with the Local Muslim Community helping.

I still think we need a "Litmus Test" re: Ground Zero mosque.

Let our Military flatten say one of saddam hussein's palaces, then we rebuild it as a Catholic-Jweish-Protestant Prayer Center, and see how well that is accepted in Baghdad.

Muslims should NOT be considered merely a religion and treated as if that's what Islam is. Islam is a political system wrapped in the trappings of a religion. Islam is every bit as much a political threat as was communism - and every bit as much a religion. To the degree that a religion desires to take over the government, it fails the religion test. Islam is a political party whose goal is the destruction of civilization.

I have read that Muslims say that anything related to the pig is unholy. To stop the building of a Mosque near ground 0, why not spill a few gallons of pig blood on the ground so it can soak up. Then they won't go near the place.

If it is true that the mosque near Ground Zero is to promote tolerance;

It was suggested that a gay nightclub be opened next door to the mosque.

Two names suggested are;

"The Turban Cowboy", and "You Mecca Me Hot".

On the other side they should open a butcher shop that specializes in pork!

And across the street a store that sells and displays bikinis or ladies lingerie on manikins...or live models.

Islam is a shining example of why the 1st Amendment prohibits a government-run religion or a religion-run government. Building a Mosque at Ground Zero is akin to abortion, in that just because you have the right to do something, it does not mean it is the right thing to do.

Dr John

Clearly the Muslims hate America and want to teach it a lesson. Let them try and build their mosque.

In fact I encourage them. Then once teh go to break ground, go to every construction Union in America and demand they bouycott this construction project.

America has always been a good albeit sometime misdirected country but when teh chips have been down and disaster strikes, ther has always been a US carrier with aid sitting offshore willing to render assitance.

Muslims may genuinely want peace, but they do niot protest terror thus they are part of the problem.

Frankly this is one minority group that should leave America and go back hiome. America will soon experience what teh UK has if it does not take steps to porotect itself from these usurpers of demorcacy. UK has Sharia Law in many places and it is and will continue to supplant Brittish law.

Awaken America start the protests now, start contacting all teh construction Unions Today to get this moving. The Mooks are well prepared and we are trying to play catch up. Enlist teh aid of every 9/11 family that lost someone. let the emotional rhetoric flow. Anreica is a good country bnut it is being manipulated by these believes of Islam

Having spent 12 months of my life in Afghanistan helping fight the war on terrorism,I can say with some assurance that building the proposed Mosque within sight of where the twin towers formerly stood is a planned strategy that will continue Islam's mission to destroy the United States. (Yes, I know that statement is not politically correct)

It will become a place of pilgrimage for millions of Muslims where they will praise Allah for what 19 Martyrs did in the name of Islam. Even now they are shaking their heads with incredulity and laughing at the thought that Americans are so stupid they cannot realize this.

Regarding your item about the withdrawal of approval of the breast cancer drug. A few months ago the CDC recommended fewer mammograms. Now they want to allow breast cancer patients to die from lack of drug treatment. Here in Wisconsin, we know if you want to reduce the deer population, you reduce the number of females. So by reducing the number of female humans, you reduce the overall human population, which has the effect of creating an ecological paradise on earth - no humans polluting the environment and wasting precious resources.

"Such mosques are symbols of Muslim military triumph." Absolutely. But of equal importance, they are routinely used as weapons caches. And as the collection point for human shields used to protect the terrorists from justice. If we continue to refuse to face the facts, and rely on the most traitorous anti-constitutional illegitimate president in US history to slap us in the face with our constitution, we deserve all the fire and brimstone these demonic savages can bring us.

Our founding fathers provided freedom to worship JEHOVAH only. They did NOT intend to allow the right to worship SATIN or any of HIS false God's such as ALLA, Mohemad, Budah, or be an athiest.

Muslem is not a religion, it is a government. They intend to either kill or convert all US citizens and take our country.

Evey Muslim knows this. If one remanis a Muslim, then they are guilty by association. There is no non-radicle Muslim. Less than 10% KKK believe in murder of African Americans but all were guilty.

Manfred is absolutely right. Islam is as much a culture as it is a religion because Mohammed created Islamic religious rituals around 7th Century Muslim culture. To be a good Muslim means less about what's in your heart and more on the conduct of rituals, many of which conflict with Christianity. Sharia Law is based upon Islam and Islam is a highly ritualistic religion. It is a way of life, not just a religion. Sharia Law is in direct conflict with Judeo Christian principles and laws. Our whole judicial system is based upon English common law with a foundation in Christianity. We can not have our laws and Sharia Law in the same legal system - and to allow it in the US means that we have to change our whole system of laws and change our Constitution. I have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and there is no reconciling the two.

To understand the global war on terrorism (GWOT) all you have to do is understand the endstate of radical Muslims: when the whole world is Muslim with a strict interpretation of Sharia Law as the ONLY law of the world. The Cordoba Mosque shows the Muslim world that we as a western Christian culture are weak and will eventually bend to their will. Like all wars, it is a struggle over wills - and we are showing to be both weak and unconcerned.

You need to make it clear that ISLAM is not a religion, it is a form of gov't of which religion is used to carry out its policies. It is a political movement that is unconstitutional with respect to the American Constitution & it is not based on the rule of law.

Having spent 20 years of my life closely associated with ISLAM, to include 10 years on the ground among the folks, I can tell you it is an all encompassing form of Gov't. It taxes, it uses Sharia for a legal system, It controls banks/financing, it has total political control over speech & all else that is part of a gov't.

Our acceptance of ISLAM as a religion will lead to the demise of the Republis as there is no "representation" in ISLAM.

I have a problem with the statement from the first article: the hole in the ground that was the World Trade Center ... a hole in the ground created by terrorists who murdered 3,000 Americans in the name of Islam.

First of all, the 9-11 commission was not a sufficient investigation into what happened on 9-11-01. Testimony was denied to many individuals and testimonies by some individuals was not admitted into the record. A whole list of past and current high-level government officials refused to testify for the commission.

We really do not know who was involved in the destruction of the World Trade Center complex other than some flunky Saudis who lacked any competence to even fly an aircraft let alone appeared on any of the passenger lists. In fact some of the hijackers were still alive after the event.

Will the citizens of the US ever witness a true criminal investigation of the events that day to the level of the OJ Simpson trial? Not likely.

There are now over 1,200 Architects and Engineers who are pushing for a new and independent investigation. These professionals do not accept the NIST report on the destruction of the buildings. Building #7 was only mentioned in passing in the 9-11 Commissions report. For those of you unaware of building #7, it was a 47 story building which was not struck by a plane and collapsed later in the afternoon on 09-11-2001 in a classic controlled demolition manner.

The citizens of NYC, the state of NY and the US deserve a real investigation, otherwise we are all fooling ourselves thinking it was some guy in a cave in Afghanistan who was responsible.

Frank, the demoncrat from MA, is now coming out, right before the election, against his two pet projects, Fannie and Freddie? Do you really think so? No doubt voters will buy this hogwash just enough to re-elect him. It's just too lucrative a theft for his cronies to really let it go. I believe he's just taking notes from that disingenuous mini-satan in the White House.

It would appear that the Far Left has little if any compassion for the victoms of horrible crimes. The feelings of those who lost loved ones at Ground Zero are being ignored and the feelings of those families where 12 Highway Patrolmen lost their lives in the performance of their duties and have or should I say had crosses honoring their sacrifices are being forgotten as well. Has Memorial become a dirty word?

I'm hard pressed to understand where all the weirdo's in the U.S. come from. Where did they get their education?, Were their teachers just as weird?,and when will it stop? I'm speaking of those that would allow the building of THE Mosque, those that allow illegal aliens (not immigrants) to stay, and gay marriages, just to name a few. I'm now waiting for the next weirdo that wants marriage legal between man and sheep, women and horse, etc. This country was built on Christian values, and it is going to hell now. These people must be a large part of the ones that got Obama elected to the highest office in the U.S. For many years I thought that most of them lived in Calif., but now I see that they exist in great number all over the country. GOD BLESS AMERICA, because we need his blessing to live with them. I feel bad for those that will have to live with all that is happening in this country now. USN, Ret.

Ground Zero Mosque;

I believe this whole issue of the Ground Zero Mosque is a diversion from the real issues facing BHO the Messiah. We need to be careful as to what we're getting sucked into, these people are masters of diversion. Let's try to look beyond what the topic of the day is, it's important that we keep or priorities in order. I'm not saying that the issue of the mosque isn't important, it is, but I'm suggesting that in order to win the war we have to be able focus on multiple levels. This tactic is right out of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals.

Rules for Radicals defends belief that the end justifies the means: "to say that corrupt the ends," writes Alinsky, "is to believe in the immaculate conception of ends and principles ... the practical revolutionary will understand ... [that] in action, one does not always enjoy the luxury of a decision that is consistent both with one's individual conscience and the good of mankind."

Altogether, Alinsky provides eleven rules of the ethics of means and ends. They are morally relativistic:

"The practical revolutionary will understand Goethe's 'conscience is the virtue of observers and not of agents of action'; in action, one does not always enjoy the luxury of a decision that is consistent both with one's individual conscience and the good of mankind."

"The second rule of the ethics of the means and ends is that the judgment of the ethics of means is dependent on the political position of those sitting in judgment." Alinsky elaborates his meaning on this point, saying that if you were a member of the underground Resistance, "... then you adopted the means of assassination, terror, property destruction, the bombing of tunnels and trains, kidnapping, and the willingness to sacrifice innocent hostages to the end of defeating the Nazi's. Those who opposed the Nazi's conquerors regarded the Resistance as a secret army of selfless, patriotic idealists ...." Rules for Radicals is therefore concerned with how to win. "...[I]n such a conflict, neither protagonist is concerned with any value except victory."

"The third rule of the ethics of means and ends is that in war the ends justifies almost any means."

"There can be no such thing as a successful traitor, for if one succeeds, he becomes a founding father."

Rules for Radicals teaches the organizer that he must give a moral appearance (as opposed to behaving morally): "All effective action requires the passport of morality."

The tenth rule of the ethics of means and ends states "that you do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral arguments ... Moral rationalization is indispensable at all times of action whether to justify the selection or the use of ends or means."

Rules for Radicals provides the organizer with a tactical style for community organization that assumes an adversarial relationship between groups of people in which one either dominates or is dominated.

"The first rule of power tactics is: power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have."

"Wherever possible go outside the experience of the enemy. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat."

"Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this. They can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."

Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage."

"The threat is generally more terrifying than the thing itself."

"In a fight almost anything goes. It almost reaches the point where you stop to apologize if a chance blow lands above the belt."

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

One of the criteria for picking the target is the target's vulnerability ... the other important point in the choosing of a target is that it must be a personification, not something general and abstract."

"The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength."

Just my opinion

Last month, an FDA advisory board recommended withdrawing government approval of the cancer drug Avastin because its $88,000-per-year cost outweighed the benefits of helping one third of advanced breast cancer patients stay alive.

Anyone know which section of the Constitution authorizes a FDA? Oh I forgot I have the James Madison version of the Constitution.

Islam seems to be attacking our legal and political houses while Obama and the Democrat congress is attacking our economy. Here's a scary Obamanomic statistic:

During the chaotic years of World War 2, Federal government spending naturally went through the roof. After the war, spending eventually settled down and by 1948, Federal government spending was at approximately 15% of GDP (gross domestic product). Since then, the government's proclivity to spend our money and expand itself has caused spending to peak-and-valley its way up to 20% of GDP, which is where it stood by the end of 2008 when George W. Bush left office. Since Obama and his Democrat congress took over however, Federal spending has now increased to 25% of GDP and is still climbing. So over the course of the 60 years since 1948, Federal spending had grown from 15% of GDP to 20% of GDP, making an average growth rate of 0.083% of GDP per year. Government growth is never a good thing, but by comparison, in just 1.5 years, Obama and the Democrats have grown spending at an average growth rate of 3.33% of GDP per year. As a percentage of GDP, Obama and this Democrat congress have increased Federal spending 40 times faster than the combined average of all administrations and congresses in 60 years prior to Obama.

Including State and Local government spending, the total government spending is now approaching 45% of GDP, and is climbing. So now 45% of all America's productivity is being sucked up by government, and Obama and the Democrats are making an alarming situation rapidy worse because as they continue to spend, the private sector loses capital and GDP drops.

And these Democrats have only been in charge for about 1.5 years!!!

If the outcry continues to grow those wanting to build the mosque will retreat and wait for a better time in which to proceed. In the meantime they will continue to infiltrate every aspect of our society. They will continue establishing Sharia Law same way they have in AIG. How did Sharia Law get into AIG? I seem to remember we gave AIG billions in bailout money.

"Mr. Ed"

In 1999 Giuseppe Germano Bernardini, the archbishop of Izmir, Turkey, wrote to the Synod of European Bishops, that Muslims have a "clear program of expansion and re-conquest" of Europe. At an official meeting of Islamic-Christian dialogue "an authoritative Muslim" stated: "Thanks to your democatic laws we will invade you; thanks to our religious laws we will dominate you." In this respect, Europe is lost. The USQA is next. While

we are rightly preocupied by the invasion of illegals and Mosques, Islam is slowly taking over. We continue to give birth to 1 or 2 children, Muslims in our Nation are having 3, 4, 5....Simple demographics will conquer us. In 20 years or so, our children will be speaking Arabic unless we do what Australia did: ban Sharia Law. Any attempt to modify Australian "culture" will result in deportation. Harsh. But Australia is much safer. It will not be an easy conquest. Our Constitution MUST be modified to be safe too from this dangerous threat. Mosques are signs of Conquest. Juyst google what Spain's Andalucia and Cordova. By their own laws (Koran) the majority of Muslims CANNOT be good Americans. They would loose their lives if they try. We never faced such a trheat at the same time: Marxism and Islam. But I have faith on our God...the God of the Jews...who Helped our founders establish our Republic. He will not allow the destruction of our Nation. In God we Trust.

New & Notable legislation... so, government wants to spend $10 billion to save 100,000 teacher's jobs? That works out to $100,000 per teacher, which is almost certainly what some hard-working teachers deserve, but I'm sure it's not what they are making.

Why is it these days that EVERYTHING has to be viewed as either religiosly oriented or race related? The Mosque issue at that particular place has nothing to do with religion just as the attack on the WTC didn't. It's a matter of what's the right thing to do or not do as the case may be. There have been two major events in my lifetime that I shall never ever forget - one is December 7, 1941, and 9-1-1 2001. Those acts will always live in infamy in my mind. Forgive maybe, because I am a Christian, but forget, NEVER! Also, I will never understand why the African-Americans must play the Race Card everytime things don't go their way? I don't see every little slight as racially motivated, it's just the way life is. Get over it.

Big brouhaha about the mosque on the DR Show on NPR today. A real estate developer called to say that the New York City zoning office could have put a stop to this by denying the permit. Wonder if someone there is sympathetic to the cause working in the NYC zoning commission? New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg perhaps? DUH!

There was also quite a bit of chatter about BO being a Muslim. I heard that he swore the Presidential Oath on a Koran the day after the public event. I think he was thoroughly indoctrinated when he attended the Muslim school as a child. That is really when your values are acquired. I hear that they beat the children often. If it works on child soldiers in Africa, why would anyone think BO would be immune? He may be a smart man, but he was brainwashed as a child to hate the USA. How sad for these United States that the majority of the voters did not see the truth before election day. Where do the Dems find these guys?

"Islam" means "submission." The Qur'an allows for no interpretation, no individual questioning, no discussion, no alternatives. Shariah law is absolute and the mullahs exist as direct enforcers of the pronouncements of Muhammad -- who demanded that his followers convert the "infidel" world to Islam. On the other hand, "Democracy" encourages and tolerates individual initiative, personal interpretation, alternatives to policy and practice and, at times, out and out rebellion. The IRS recognizes 2,600 Protestant sects in addition to Orthodox faiths. If a person is dissatisfied with one sect, (s)he is free to find another, more palatable. A Christian may become Jewish or vice versa. Not so with Islam. For 2,000 years, Islam has remained fixed, mired in its laws, hating and punishing -- frequently and most brutally. "Creeping Shariah" is upon us. Every day, there is increasing and unrelenting pressure for American judges and the Congress to include Shariah as part of American jurisprudence. Britain is doing exactly that; Scandinavia has more mosques than churches; all of North Africa is Moslem as is almost all of Southeast Asia. The Right Bank of Paris is completely Moslem. For 235 years, America has been a "shining light on a hill." This Nation has done more good than all the nations in History -- combined -- and has sacrificed millions of its young men for the sake of other people's freedom. Islam and Democracy cannot co-exist. One or the other will survive. It cannot be both. It will be the one which is the most dedicated to its founding Principles. This isn't about one mosque. This is about hundreds of mosques and 2,000,000 Moslems living in America with more moving in every day. Unless we call it what it is, the Call to Prayer will some day silence Christmas music and that Darkness will last for thousands of years. Period.

Regarding Proposition 8, I'm no Constitutional authority, but if the case was brought against the State of California as you state, I wonder how Judge Walker could legally render a decision. Article III, Section 2 of the Constitution gives original jurisdiction to the Supreme Court in all cases in which a state is a party. The same question applies to Arizona's Immigration law wherein the state was sued by the Justice Department, but a decision was handed down by a district judge. Has the Constitution become meaningless?

I am totally against Obamacare and any other attempt by the Federal government to involve itself in things that are not granted to it by the Constitution. Your piece in the Friday (August 20th) edition of the Patriot post has me concerned. Yes, the FDA is considering pulling the drug, but you didn't mention the compelling reasons. I've pasted just one link (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/15/AR2010081503466.html) to an article that advises that the drug may not be all that helpful in the late stages of breast cancer (metastatic) and that the side effects are very bad and may outweight the benefits. Granted, this article was on the Washington Post website which happened to be one of the many links I found in Google (I don't read that garbage as a rule), but if I, as a Patriot am going to fight effectively for freedom by helping to educate the liberals out there, I need for the information you provide to consider all things carefully so I don't make a fool of myself. What, exactly, is your point in using this as an example of rationing due to Obamacare? I'm not trying to be antagonistic. I really want to be able to argue intelligently with the liberals out there. Is it because the FDA is restricting access to a drug that can help folks even if there are potentially very bad side effects? i.e. They are restricting the personal freedom of people to choose the care they want?

In the item listed 'New & Notable Legislation' you left out a significant item. If this is for one year, the claim that the $10 billion school aid would save 100,000 teaching jobs also means that those jobs each earned $100K.

I don't know too many teachers that earn $100K/year. Does this mean that our government is handing out raises or is this just more bad math that they didn't think we would catch?

All right, people, let's just relax about the mosque. Ain't gonna happen. First, let me remind you that construction is accomplished by people called "hardhats". Do you really believe New York's hardhats are going to work on that mosque? Doubtful. Second, who do you think runs New York's concrete? How about New York's high iron? Glass? Masonry? Carpentry? Finally, as a former New York native, I seem to recall five groups of large, unruly gentlemen, mostly of Sicilian ancestry, who were not only Catholic, but rather intense in their enthusiasms, or lack thereof. All of which inspires the thought that it would be terrible if an eighteen wheeler carrying a load of hogs were to overturn in front of that locale, at approximately the same time that Hormel, Smithfield, Wilson, Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage, and a few other food purveyors bought all the advertising space within sight of the proposed mosque. And, they'd have the same first-amendment rights...........Hhhmmmmm.

I once heard that Opinions are like armpits....Yes everybody has'em and most of them stink.

Having said all that to say this in regards to the Mosque in New York at ground zero...I for one am apposed to the hole stinking idea, However, in the Book I go by, King James Version---Holy Bible...We are told to keep our Friends close and our Enemy even Closer! This is a two way suggestion right from the Word of God. OK let's look at this for just one minute, it is way to late to round them all up and send them back to the country of origin. The Enemy is moving in on us in every State and setting up their places of worship everywhere you look, they are among us taking up our life stile only to blind in like a hunter in Camouflage so they will not be noticed, and when they get the order to Sloughter the Infadills, they

will be killing us once Free Americans by the 1,000's....The Twin Towers Attack will Pail in comparison...We need to be for armed and fore warned...It is not a matter of IF they will try to do this, it is a matter of When...Unless we can roundup ALL Illegals, no matter where there from and ship them back to where they came from. WE BETTER BE READY FOR THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES!!!

This is the greatest country in the world and it is up to use to keep it that way...We let the enemy in our camp, we let them built there temples and bring in their Faults god's Faults religion and they want to change our country to the piece of garbage they came from...BULL!!! God is not happy with us, He is going to turn His back on US...We need to ask Him for forgiveness for allowing this to happen in a nation that is founded on being "One Nation--Under GOd--Indavisible--With Liberity & Justice for ALL.

That ALL means: All who will come to our country and abide by our laws and religious belief's and than and only than can there be any Piece on Earth and Good Will toward mankind. This is America!!! The Land of the Free Because of The Brave men & women who have put their lives on the line and their Mom's, Dad's, Wives get the Medals for Bravery along with the Tel-Egram that thanks them for the loved one who died for a Grateful Nation.

Let the Enemy build there Temple some place else, not Ground Zero!!! That is Sacred Ground a Monument should be built to Honor ALL those who died in that place on 9-11-2001....That's my 1st. comment to The Patriot Post...I hope I will be allowed this opportunity to voice my self again. I tried to be as calm as I could be...I'm like a Volcano inside and all one can see is the Mountain from the outside...Any one in our country ILLEGALLY is NOT an Un-Documented worker!!! A QUESTION AND AN ANSWER

The question is straightforward and painfully simple. Does Islam honestly qualify as a ‘religion’? Other than Islam, which touts Allah as their supreme deity, no other ‘religion’ boasts a deity commanding his subjects to murder in his name, to enslave their women, to practice pedophilia and polygamy, to face in so-called prayers, the birthplace of their one false suspect prophet, to offer alms giving as their only charitable work, to practice deception (taqiyya) and outright lying as a defense of their beliefs. To murder their own children for any perceived slur the child may have brought upon the family honor.

The list goes on ad nauseam. The answer too is straightforward and painfully simple; No! Islam does not qualify as a religion! It is more a cult similar to but far larger than those of James Jones and of David Koresh who was mercilessly ‘crushed’ by Janet Reno and the Clinton Administration. Therefore, I would differ with those, including Sarah Palin who noted that the ‘Muslims have the right to build the ‘Ground Zero’ Mosque but should they do so?’

The practice of Islam is too far outside the pale of a beneficent, humanitarian and loving religion. It is quite obvious that there is an ulterior motive couched in the phrase, “The Cordoba Initiative” that drives Islam in this instance. Quoting Tony Vega,NY Political Buzz Examiner

“From the rubble of the WTC, Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, president of the Cordoba Initiative, called for Islamic dawa and sharia law on American soil, usurping the American Constitution.

Some that pride themselves as Patriots believe it is their constitutional duty to protect that Imam’s “right” to build his Initiative in the shadows of Ground Zero.

The framers did not intend the Constitution to be a suicide pact, nor did the framers desire that the Constitution be used by our enemies or supporters of the same to tear us asunder, or as a tool to promote useful idiots.

Supporters of dawa, jihad and sharia law and the furtherance of the same wrap themselves in a cloak of religious freedom and we say, “Welcome to America.” How easy are we?” Read Tony’s entire piece at”http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-new-york/the-cordoba-initiative-mosque-near-ground-zero. Therefore, it is my unequivocal, Hell No! in answer to: Should Muslims be allowed to desecrate Ground Zero?

One final note, Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf has made use of several useful idiots to foster his nefarious scheme, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg who is doing a major disservice not only to New York City and the families of the 9/11 victims but to the Worldwide Jewish community as well.

ABOVE_ For her part, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wants critics investigated. "[T]here is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some," she complained. "I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded. How is this being ginned up...?" Back in the day, when flower-child San Fran Nan when a-protesting all expenses paid with Rent-a-Mob she just knew everyone was paid for opinions, votes, and demonstrations. But the principled young debutante San Fran Nan was too much the well-born to settle for so crass a commodity as mere money, so we may be nearly certain that copious quantiies of Gin WERE involved as recompense.

Regarding the unending caveats which always follow the words, "Of course they have the right to place a mosque anywhere they want!", please note:

"If you are not free to choose wrongly or irresponsibly, you are not free at all." - Jacob Hornsberger (1995)

"You can only protect your liberties in this world by protecting the other man's freeom. You can only be free if I am." - Clarence Darrow

Ours is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. If religious freedom and private property rights exist in this country, stop pandering to the bigoted and the fearful.

After Muslims build a mosque, should they begin to preach treason or the overthrow of the government, arrest them and put them in jail. Otherwise, leave them alone.

Lee McGee - you have a point - up to a point. But you stop when you assume that the muslim religion is an open and honest component of a free society. Certainly they would never openly advocate treason or overthrow. Instead, they infiltrate and overwhelm their ignorant hosts, like the parasites their religion teaches them to be, until you find yourself under their laws. Many want to follow Europe's example in everything. Just take a hard look at them now with their muslim problem. And that's not to mention the hell-holes they've created when they finally do attain a majority. With President Hussein in charge now, it's only a matter of time until he ensures our government, not to mention our courts, are saturated with those who will interpret any law in terms of muslim law. You can start by looking at the guest list at the recent Friday night white house dinner. There's a big difference between freely joining a disagreement protected by rights versus being forced into an all out war in which the stakes are your life and death. Those who can't tell the difference have already lost. And that's a promise.

Regarding "Regulatory Commissars: ObamaCare Rationing", the left makes it a habit of "outing" those who were against Prop 8 or who have a concealed carry permit in the newspapers and other MSM, I would fervently like to see published the names of those on the FDA advisory board who recommend withdrawing government approval of certain drugs and rationing healthcare. Maybe they'd think twice about advertising themselves for the murderers they are.

In the controversy over the mosque at Ground Zero much has been said about religious freedom but very little is has been said about Islam not being a religion but a form of government. Liberals, who have no understanding of reality, should have this explained to them more clearly.

I agree with Dale and Gloria above!! One question I would ask ... and this is in the interest of us all, I believe ... by what means (or by whom) are you able to continue to remain accountable to your mission? Maybe this has been stated somewhere and I apologize if I'm asking you to repeat yourself. But, it's only because I revere the Patriot so much that to lose it would be a very "real" loss.

Only one comment: It is not the Democratic Party, it is the DEMOCRAT Party. I would use the spelling ending in "p" but that is even less acceptable in Democrat Pary circles.

Robert J. Larimer, Jr, asked if Muslims were inviting Christians and Jews if they wanted to build "community centers" in Mecca or Medina? I'd bet Robert knows and most on here know that Jews and Christians are not only not allowed to build near those places, they are not allowed to go near those places since that would pollute those "holy" sites. If you are white and male and Jew or Christian or atheist, try and get near Mecca--you will be stoned to death. You can't even be a cab driver taking people to the site. Someone suggested soaking the ground site for the mosque with some pig blood--how about dropping pig's blood AND fat on Mecca and Medina? Even dog's blood and fat might be as effective. Muslims will rately enter a home that has a dog in it because dogs are unclean, too.

Thank you for the Patriot Post, but for the very first time since I subscribed, I'm a little disappointed. Please don't take this as criticism, we just disagree about a point.

In your editorial you state:

"Of course they have the right to practice their religion and even build their mosque wherever appropriate. No serious critic is suggesting otherwise. What we are saying is that such mosques are symbols of Muslim military triumph and that this one is a slap in the face of every American -- particularly those who lost loved ones on 9/11."

This presumption is where we disagree. You address Islam as if is a religion. It is not and the Patriot Post has stated and inferred that in past editorials. Islam is a POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY to govern a nation state. The religious aspects of Islam are but one small part. Included into that are the teachings of the Quran that govern terrorism, world domination and a host of other subjects.

Islam has no right to set up mosques anywhere in the USA let alone at Ground Zero. Until the people of America start understanding what Islam is and what it is not (a religion) we will continue to be undermined by a political philosophy that publicly states it is out to destroy us.

It is also interesting to note that Obama is their biggest supporter.

Re: Ground Zero Mosque and religious tolerance: Last time I checked, muslims were not huge on religious tolerance. When I first heard of the mosque, word was that opening day was set for Sept. 11, 2011. Could it be any more clear that this "cultural center" is more of a Trophy celebrating Islam's drastic step towards complete dominance. I can't help but remember a story that a friend of mine told me. In Belgium, a large mosque was erected right near a catholic church, and any time the church bells would ring, the call to prayer would be blasted out over loudspeakers, drowning out the church bells. Jihad comes in many forms, it seems.

Just how far should religious tolerance extend? If my religion includes having sex with children, should it be tolerated? How about murdering anyone who disagrees with my religion? Or my religion preaching that it is a member's duty to overthrow our present form of government by force? If you are a homosexual and your wife is an adulterous, do I have the right to kill both of you if my religion says I should? Should our schools teach that the world is flat because my religion says it is flat?

Our motto is "In God We Trust" not in allah we trust.

If we fail to take a stance against a false god, the true God will forget our nation. Just look at history. It's time we realize that freedom of Islam in America means a destruction of our religious freedom and political system. We need to make the choice now!

What happens when you corner a wild animal . . . say an Eagle. Yep, the lame ducks that want to spitefully finish destroying the country in November and December after the Election Day rout, could very well find themselves literal lame ducks.

You can run, but you can't hide and you don't get the security provided for POTUS' and their toadies.

Don't take it as a threat, but as a friendly warning from an American that will not be bullied and stay docile.

In the military drill instructors sometimes had to resort to what we called wall to wall counseling to get an unruly recruits head right. Many of our representatives are in need of wall to wall counseling. Most of them are progressive Democrats with an ax to grind. 'We the forme DI's . . .' are still up to the task if called on.

PS: Think before you act in Nov and Dec.

Hello America,

We need to seriously consider the Islamic militant problem in this country. The 9.11 Mosque, or so its dubbed is the canker sore that has become infected. This action is a direct attack on our freedoms and rights as American citizens, and should be addressed as such.

It is reported that a majority of mosques and Muslims in this country are of one accord regard their intened purpose according to the Quran of making America an Islamic Caliphate subject to Sh'ria law, hence making us dhimmi's, or subservient to Islam in our own nation.

The NY mosque near Ground Zero is their way of telling us that this is their intention and we are helpless to do anything about it. I beg to differ. If I know my fellow Americans, I would say they spoke out of school and could pay dearly for it.

The best way to approach the problem though is through the law. Muslims who want to live in America, abide by our laws and worship peacefully are what this nation is built on.

Muslims, on the other hand who want to plan and plot the overthrow of America in order to impose their hellish religion and laws on us, who by the way are in the majority should have their mosques closed down and the congregants deported as enemies of the state, or put on pig farms to tend the farmer pigs without pay. What the pigs eat they can eat. As you see I am incensed with the notion that radical Muslims can spit in our face under the umbrella of politically correct bureaucrats.

A more America friendly government can put a stop to what Islamo-fascists have in mind for us. We also need to let these Satan worshippers know that an armed America is a very dangerous America when threatened as they are doing.

This has become a 'clear and present danger' and must be 'terminated with extreme prejudice' if it comes to that.

It is so sad that the people born here are losing their rights to foreigners. Building a mosque a ground zero is a slam on the American people. You are telling them that it's ok to kill our people and destroy our country. Why are we really fighting over there? It's obvious that they don't want us there and we are sending our people over there to die for nothing. Read your Bible. This war is between them and no one else. It's God's war not ours!

So Chief U.S. District Judge Fernando Gaitan has ruled that it is free speech for the Westboro Baptists to hold "God Hates Fags" signs at military funerals. Does this mean it would be OK for a group of people to protest the death of a gay person with the same sign? Or would that be a violation of hate crime laws?

What is the Great Mosque of Cordoba?

The Great Mosque of Cordoba was a mosque built on the site of a Christian Visigothic Church when conquered by Muslims in the city of Cordoba, Spain in 784 AD. It is regarded as perhaps the most accomplished monument of the Muslim Umayyad dynasty.

During this time Cordoba was one of the largest cities in the world. It is claimed that the name Cordoba continues to represent a symbol of Islamic conquest to many faithful Muslims around the world.

The tactic is simple, when the Muslim invaders conquer a city, the first thing to be done was take all (and most importantly) its largest church and convert it into a Mosque symbolizing its Military governance and domination over the land. Churches in those times were more like fortresses and strongholds than of just places of religious ritual.

And now today we have a structure that Muslims propose to build in the shadow of the place where Muslim terrorists Murdered 3000 innocent Americans and citizens of the world...and what do they call this proposal?? "THE CORDOBA INITIATIVE" (reverse the words "Initate Cordoba", a symbol of Islamic conquest)Lets think about that for a moment.

No one in their right mind would argue that americans dont have every "right" to build it as our beliefs and rights in this country say so,but the utter slap in the face in intolerable. The continued demands placed upon the non-believers of this world by Muslim's needs to be addressed...there is no mutual tolerance, no mutual understanding... we give, they take and demand more...we appease, they take and demand more. It's a non sustainable concept that is leading Christianity and Western culture to its certain doom, the signs of the protesters in Europe read "Islam will dominate the world" Do we have to see the signs in down town New York before we realize that they mean what they say.

If truly moderate Muslims actually wished for a peaceful coexistence with Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and Jews and all Americas they would be speaking up right now realizing that this is still a open wound and very painful for the loved ones and the country and agreeing openly with the American public in general that building a Mosque so close to ground zero is just wrong! -- Scott Niemi

re: News From the Swamp: Those Lame Ducks

It now seems that even elections can't protect Americans from the damage that can be done by politicians in Washington.

congress and the president(which we don't have at the present time) sit in our houses. so if congress tries to have a lame duck session we the people need to step up and prevent it. they are our employees, not the other way around as they think, and no business would let an employee it has fired make decisions for the employers. a lame duck session is a travesty and it is incumbent upon us to stop it. perhaps a mass sit in. will the patriot post help organize something along those lines?

Larry - I have learned over time that the leftist tactic of calling opponents stupid and portraying them as dummies is not something we should embrace. I do not view Barney Fwank or Obummer as stupid in any way. They KNOW exactly what they are doing. One is a morally base thief and abuser of the system and the other is dismantling and destroying America so that he and his ilk can bring an Islamic and communistic regime to our great land. There will never be any shortage of the "useful idiots" socalled by Russia's Kruschef in regard to the leftist movement here that is decades old, but we have to discern who is who. As it stands though, Bahney Fwank can probably kiss his Fannie goodbye since he can take his constituents down the road to hell, but he cannot take their money and their jobs.

I really couldn't believe my ears when I first heard this story about building the mosque @ ground zero, thought it was some kind of cruel joke of some sort. I've realized that there isn't a joke and there really are people out there in this country that truly believe the American people should allow this to happen. Someone needs to put down their foot and just say absolutely not is this going to happen here, no way, and no how! Just amazes me how stupid these people think we are. Craziness, pure craziness. Just say no! End of story, don't ask again either, punk!

How dare them ask for money to buid that abonination?!! They have a lot of nerve. Islam is directly opposite to anything we believe in, so why in the world do they want to push it at us; when we will not accept it or them! Not all of us are ignorant and DO know what Islam stands for and their goals. No trust for them should be offered! Why in fact are they even here in America, when they hate us and all of their 'infidels'....Time we took a stand and put our foot down...send them packing along with the illegals! You know of course, it won't be the officials in WA's money or government money; it will be OUR money..Well they need to know the Bank of We the People, is broke too Is there no intelligence in WA anymore?
