Left Attacks Ryan's Medicare Plan With Falsehoods
The Foundation
"It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself." --Thomas Jefferson
Editorial Exegesis
Is Ryan dumping seniors off a cliff?"One of President Obama's regular attacks on Paul Ryan's Medicare reform is that it would force seniors to pay $6,400 a year more for health care. ... The claim is based on a now out-of-date Congressional Budget Office estimate of the gap between the cost of health care a decade from now, in 2022, and the size of the House budget's premium-support subsidy for a typical 65-year-old in 2022. In other words, the $6,400 has no relevance for any senior today. None. But it also is unlikely to have any relevance for any senior ever because CBO concedes that its number is highly uncertain and 'will depend on the evolution of the health care and health insurance systems over time, which is hard to predict.' That's for sure. The more fundamental problem is that the CBO analysis has nothing to do with the current Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan plan. Nada. Over the last year Mr. Ryan has made major adjustments to his original proposal as he sought a compromise with Democrats. ... So how would Ryan 2.0 work in practice? Traditional Medicare and all private insurers in a region would make bids to cover seniors and compete for their business by offering the best value and prices. Then the government would give everyone a subsidy equal to the second-lowest bid. If seniors chose that No. 2 option, whether it was Medicare or another plan, they'd break even and pay nothing extra out of pocket. If they picked the cheapest plan, they'd keep whatever was left over after the government subsidy -- that is, they'd get a cash refund. If they instead picked the third-cheapest option, the fourth-cheapest, etc., they'd pay the difference above the government subsidy. That structure ensures that seniors would have at least two choices (and likely far more) that they are guaranteed to do better than they do now. The amount of the premium-support subsidy would also be tied to underlying health-care costs, so it would not shift costs to beneficiaries, as Democrats also falsely claim. The very reasonable Romney-Ryan policy bet is that costs could nonetheless fall over time because seniors would have the incentive to switch to the most competitively priced Medicare plan. ... None of these facts are likely to deter Democrats from their distorted claims. But the truth is that the Ryan-Romney reform isn't anywhere close to Mr. Obama's cartoon version." --The Wall Street Journal
Essential Liberty
"There are some very serious issues at stake in this year's election -- so many that some people may not be able to see the forest for the trees. Individual issues are the trees, but the forest is the future of America as we have known it. The America that has flourished for more than two centuries is being quietly but steadily dismantled by the Obama administration, during the process of dealing with particular issues. For example, the merits or demerits of President Obama's recent executive order, suspending legal liability for young people who are here illegally, presumably as a result of being brought here as children by their parents, can be debated pro and con. But such a debate overlooks the much more fundamental undermining of the whole American system of Constitutional government. The separation of powers into legislative, executive and judicial branches of government is at the heart of the Constitution of the United States -- and the Constitution is at the heart of freedom for Americans." --economist Thomas Sowell
Upright
"The voters now face a stark choice. They can let Barack Obama's rambling, solipsistic narrative continue until they find themselves living in some American version of Europe, with low growth, high unemployment, even higher debt -- and real geopolitical decline. Or they can opt for real change: the kind of change that will end four years of economic underperformance, stop the terrifying accumulation of debt, and reestablish a secure fiscal foundation for American national security." --Niall Ferguson in Newsweek magazine's cover story
"Honestly, what is Todd Akin thinking? He's saying he's staying, even though the overwhelming sentiment of the sentient wing of the GOP is screaming for him to get out. ... Still, he has a few diehard defenders, who are fighting the wrong battle on his behalf. This isn't about abortion or rape or 'women's health.' Nor is it about 'defending our own' and not capitulating to the Left. ... It's about winning control of the U.S. Senate and putting a crucial swing state into the GOP column in November. Nothing -- nothing -- else matters." --National Review's Michael Walsh
"It is fascinating to watch someone on a national stage who truly fails to comprehend the reality of what he is doing. Mr. Akin seemed genuinely oblivious to what it means when all of his peers ... ask him to step aside for the sake of his cause, his beliefs, his goals, and his party's chances in November. ... [H]is statement that he acts on principle, while 'others' only consider 'politics,' evinces his failure to understand the political landscape in which he is running, the political consequences of stupid, offensive speech in public at the wrong time, and the reality that politics ain't beanbag. Bigger things -- the course of our nation -- are at stake. His vision of himself making a stand for all the unborn babies who might perish without him really needs to be subjected to the reality that he has harmed his cause by making it look nutty." --Lisa Schiffren, senior fellow at the Independent Women's Forum
Non Compos Mentis
"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare [for rape victims to get pregnant]. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." --GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin (R-MO) with an incomprehensibly stupid defense of his laudable opposition of abortion even in cases of rape

Left-theology: "Jesus' teachings regarding wealth are nowhere to be found in Ryan's budget proposal. As near as we can tell, Jesus would advocate a tax rate somewhere between 50% ... and 100%.... [U]nder [Ryan's] budget plan, according to a recent analysis in the Atlantic, Romney would pay only 0.8% of his income in federal taxes. ... When it comes to paying taxes, Ryan is Romney's wing man. ... Jesus' distaste for wealth is an uncomfortable reality that many Christians ignore at the ballot box. Yes, we all make them and he should be forgiven as a person. However he is a stupid leader and is no more qualified for a governmental leadership position than Joe "The Mouth" Biden is and he should step aside; at least he can do that gracefully and that is better than losing disgracefully.

I'm tired of the way the GOP opens fire on its own wounded. Akin said something he shouldn't have (although, as it turns out, it is actually a very popular myth and stress hormones may indeed play some role in whether a rape victim bears a child). Big deal. He apologized. Move on. People on the Left say the most outrageous things and are never thrown under the bus by their fellow travelers; rather, they all come to the offender's defense and spin like a top for him. But our party, no way. One misstep and they want to throw you to the wolves. I have seen it happen in my own Republican circles more than once. If I were a billionaire, I would replace every dollar of funding pulled from Akin two to one in independent expenditures.

So what is new?
Now in addition to an e-mail to Hillary - "A village has lost its idiot. Please apply." we can send a copy to Joe Biden and an e-mail to Rep. Aikin "A ffence has lost its post; please apply." To paraphrase Mark Twain, my Congressman is a moron. But I repeat myself. Another comment: even a fish wouldn't get in trouble if it kept its mouth shut and Congressmen should follow the advice. Another one: Make sure brain is in gear before mouth opens. Personally he is forgiven but anyone who says something so stupid and demonstably wrong is not qualified for a leadership position.

If you thought what Rep. Akin said was stupid, wait until you learn he didn't make it up. According to a member of Feminists for Life, it comes from the Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood. Presumably they arrived at this conclusion by noting a relative rarity of children conceived by rape, but without a verified biological mechanism on record, the whole notion is at best an urban legend (there being no ethical means to test the idea).
Regardless of the source, or Rep. Akin's terrible usage (it would have been more clear if he had said "physically forced" instead of "legitimate"), the statement was completely irrelevant to the abortion issue.. It's another case of, "I meant what I said, but what i said is not what I meant."
The real issue is whether it is right to kill a child because his or her biological father is a rapist. The answer is, "Of course not!" The sad reality is crime often has irreversible negative consequences for the victims; that is why it is crime. You cannot make a woman whole by violating her again and killing her child (which is what abortion does), even if she doesn't want the child. It is better to help her through the aftermath with physical and emotional support, and if circumstances warrant, give the child to another family for adoption.

Akins is about to destroy the cause he claims to support. With his crackpot theories on female reproductive physiology, his paranoid ideas that "liberal elitists" want him out of the race (the liberals backed him with $1.5 million in ads), and his claims that he is somehow appointed by God as the only one to carry the conservative banner, mark him as either a kook or a Democratic Party plant. Frankly, dementia is a very real possibility for someone his age.

rep. atkins raises a legitimate question. rape is committed the very second a man looks a woman & "lusts" for her in his heart. if a 17 yr. old male convinces a 15 - 17 yr. old female to have sexual relations with him this is also a rape. if a 21+ yr. old man has sexual relations with a 21+ year old female & they are outside of marriage, this to is a rape. feminists have "preached" & "preached" that marriage is nothing more than a "gentle" rape of women. 60% - 70% of the children I face at southwind high school, if the statistics are even in a proximity of truth, are born "out of wedlock". this is rape!! when the student is a 17+ yr. old senior & the parent is 33 or 34 years of age, is this not the result of rape??
politicians have put the foot N the mouth since the garden of eden. he has apologized & repented of his comments. enough is enough. rep. akin is more than qualified to defeat the incumbent & this is an issue for the citizens of Missouri. not the Republican party!!
respectfully submitted

Rape is defined legally. Just because the feminists whine does not mean what they whine about is legal rape. We can speculate forever if by "legitimate rape" Akin meant "proven rape" or "rape as legally defined" or maybe even "forcible rape" but the way this was phrased is clearly stupid, especially for someone who writes the laws and should be versed in the precise use of language. As to the rest of Akin's comments this is just biologically wrong and if Akin does not know enough not to comment on what he does not know or understand then he is intellectually and politically unfit for governmental power.

Aiken's comments were a bit odd, not based on anything factual because pregnancies do result from rape. But I have no problem at all with his position on the issue. Anybody that is pro-life repudiates their cause when they start with the "excepts". If one is intellectually honest, s/he is either all pro-life/anti-abortion or all pro-choice/pro-abortion. What I had trouble with was the GOP attacking their own. It pushed me futher away from the Republican label into the camp of Tea Party. The whole bruhaha was the Left's attempt to sway the election and the clueless GOP played right into it.

Obama has been lying since the day he took office so why should he stop now while he is running for re-election. Let's review the facts. Fact or Lie? He saved the auto industry and GM. It was a lie. GM owes the taxpayers 25-27 billion dollars and is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy again. Fact or Lie? Obamacare was not a tax. The Affordable Health Care Act was the largest tax increase in history on the American People. It was a lie. Fact or Lie? The 787 billion dollar jobs stimulus bill was a success. Unemployment has been above 8.0 % for over 45 months, almost Obama's entire first term as president. It was just over 4% when he took over from President Bush. It was a lie. Fact or Lie? Obama's Green Energy Policies have created hi-tech, high paying jobs. Obama's green energy policies have cost $1,000,000/job and he has cost the U.S. taxpayer $100 Billion dollars in lost investments in companies that have gone bankrupt like Solyndra with his poor oversight of the taxpayers money!!! It was a lie. There is no reason for me to go on. Obama and his administration have no credibility when it comes to the "truth"!! He does not deserve another term as president, and the country cannot afford another term with him as president. As Forrest Gump so aptly put it, "And that is all I have to say about that!"
