The Not-So-Great Narrator
"When I think about what we've done well and what we haven't done well, the mistake of my first couple of years was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times." --Barack Obama

Yes, the fact that my wife is still unemployed and my take home pay is $200 less per month than it was 4 years ago would be a lot easier to take if the president would only tell me some soothing stories to give me hope. Yeah, right. how about actually doing something to help unemployment and the economy?

''Tell a story. ...that gives the people a sense...''? Doesn't that mean, 'lie'?

Uh, Yeah! "Tell a story"...code for Lie. "Create a dynamic narrative" ... code for Lie.

C'mon now, Mac. Be fair. And "pay your fair share". "Rick whitey" (or "rich anybody") is the most educated (or smarteest, and there is a difference), takes all the risks, works the hardest (hard not to work harder than not working). But you know, for that he/she should have the same income and standard of living as everybody else. That would be "fair". Wouldn't it?
But we might end up with two classes in our society: government ruling elite; and the rest of us slaves.

Which is why we must reassert our Natural right, and duty to alter or abolish! If that means a few libs need to become extinct in the process, so be it. The whole rats nest called Washington DC or Capitol Hill needs to be cleaned out and overhauled. We need to get Public Servants in there who'll know that they are public servants for a limited term, never to be able to run for office again. Get rid of career politicos, and it starts by voting out (i.e. ousting) this OBa*tard in November. If he gets re-elected, the only way I see to right the situation is Civil War.

@Son: Perhaps a little flesh-eating bacteria in the Congressional gym when Barney Fwank invites Goober over for a playful steam with storytelling and massage might serve the purpose of individual liberty well. I guess the question is: Will bacteria eat its own?

Because we've raised a participation trophy society in our younger generation. And have allowed those that come here for that purpose only...to get the free stuff. What happened to reaping what you've sown. If you're too lazy to sow, you shouldn't be allowed to reap.

Not only a matter of "reaping" but a matter of investing something/anything in the country instead of a gimme-gimme attitude.
Some have come here with the idea that they are doing it for their children and this has been throughout the history of America. But today it is more self-centered and the children are merely byproducts of a couple being together. More gimme-gimme.
If the illegals thought they might have to really work for their share of America, many of them would not come. There are also many who would come because there is no alternative where they came from. Therefore, the test is to make them work for a living. The solution? Make sure that the ones who do NOT work get no benefits. This will separate the real men from the boys.

Obama's problem is not that he doesn't tell "the story" well but rather that what he tells is either false, distorted, inaccurate, or partisan. He comes from a segment of the body politic that is internationalist, socialist, and aetheistic. He is the most divisive president since Lincoln, though Lincoln stood for national unity whereas Obama it is strictly "divide and conquer." I dispair for our country when I see polls that show nearly half the American people still support him. Perhaps people are afraid to express their true views for fear of being added to his "enemies list." Perhaps they are afraid of being labeled racist. I can live with either of those excuses but I fear the real reason is pure laziness. People are too concerned with the latest Hollywood scandal to sift through the news to see how we are being misgoverned. Perhaps this nation has sunk so low that we actually deserve to have the likes of Obama ruling us.

Well said. I fear the other half, too, that support BO. Perhaps their support is for the reasons you state, but I think it's b/c they really do believe what BO says. Isn't that what caused his election in the first place? They believed what he said?

Master Gunny - you took the same oath I did to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States from ALL enemies foreign and DOMESTIC and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same. Before we can allow this nation to be ruled by a despot, we are duty bound to fight to keep the Constitution as the Law of the Land. If that means armed combat, then that's what it means. Obummer is a domestic enemy of the Constitution, and yes, there are the stupid servile people who will vote for him. We patriots must stand fast against him. I believe that God is on our side. You having been in the sea services as I have (I was Navy) know what sacrifice means, and I guess we're not done sacrificing yet. After all it's like Gunny Hartmann said on Full Metal Jacket - "God loves the Marine Corps because they keep heaven filled with fresh souls." Perhaps He loves patriots just as well. As for the other half who are the "useful Idiots" of Socialism - "Necco eos omnes, Deus suus agnoscet."

Of course there may be no way to answer this question, but what would have been the outcome had the Founding Fathers put the proposed Declaration of Independence to a popular vote rather than taking the risk of standing on their convictions? Would there have been enough express support from the populace? (Remember that supporting the 'rebels' was disobedience to the king, which could land you in lots of hot water back then.) I suspect it would have been voted down.
The point I make is that large numbers, even if it is a majority, are not necessarily right.

Obama was elected, in part, because after 8 years of continual epithet-throwing by the left, everyone was suffering from "Bush fatigue." One could not go a day without some lefty telling us all how stupid or dumb GWB was, how he supposedly "stole" the election, how we were fighting 2 illegal wars, and on and on, and on. And let's not forget the continual droning that there were no WMDs in Iraq! The whole Country was just sick of it! So, anyone the Democrats ran would likely have won. GWB tried to govern from the center (be a moderate.) He was demonized even more for that! To the Left Bush was an oil robber-baron, and incompetent; to the Right, Bush was a disappointment.

Are you people sure that Obama does not have Swiss Bank Accounts. The man is an Allende lover , The man was his idol and like him He was a Communist/Socialist in disguise. A man that told the populaze what they wanted to hear and promised what he wasn't going to give them. He destroyed businesses, industries and left Chile the country in question in the limb. That man parceled farms and gave parts of those farms and vineyards to people that had a house built in there and sat and got drank , the watch the land do nothing but get sterile, they thought it would produce just watching and money would grow, they had "tomas" (takeovers) , people planted a flag and moved in the houses they liked and threw the real owners out and Allende allowed it. Same as Obama is doing, dismantling the country brick by brick. He is aging people to do the same. They are entitled to what others accomplished. It's disgusting. Happily a group formed by the heads of the military took over and basically cleaned up the country of some of the communism. After Pinochet there were two elections and a Communist pediatrician, a woman was elected, Yes, the inauguration that Condoleeza Rice attended and she did not know that there had been elections there before that (??) and she was Secretary of State? Hmmm Interesting her assert was that this was the first time that there had been democratic elections there. It seems like she didn't even know that Chile is also a Republic like the U.S. A. and elects presidents by democratic vote and she still doesn't know it. Hopefully with President Pi~eira , a real conservative republican belonging to the Partido Nacional , they are on the way to recovery from the mess the socialist/communist woman and the democrat president before her made before him. Obama never was a good orator and he is not a good narrator , not even a good reader either. He certainly is a very good divider with no ethics , principles or morals and if he stay a few months more he will destroy everything we love of the U.S.A.

It is hard to believe that Americans could make such a horrible mistake and elect a marxist "destroyer of liberty" such as Obama. It is even harder to believe that I see some cars running around with Obama 2012 bumper stickers (although Bloomington Indiana is full of liberal idiots). When wondering how in the heck did we sink this low, I think the ultimate blame must fall on those that abandoned their responsibility to direct their children's education. We are reaping what we've sown by turning our precious children over to the God-less, pagan, socialist indoctrination centers known as public (government) schools. If we are to save this nation we must immediately extricate our kids and our grandkids from the union-run government schools and homeschool them or put them in good Christian schools. Our kids DO NOT belong to Pharoah!

Hopefully during this election those who voted for Obama becaue he promised hope and change will really take a look at the changes he has made that have done more harm to this great country than has helped.. He has bypassed Congress when things aren't going his way by using executive orders, done absolutely nothing about immigration but sue the States who are trying to control illegal aliens, and saddle us with a Healthcare bill that in the long run will do more harm than good. Pull it up and take a look at the number of new taxes included (ie, health care devices, etc). Pushes class warfare between those who work and pay taxes and those who sit on their behinds and do nothing but rely on Government handouts. It will be a miracle if this country lasts another 20 years if we continue down the same path we are headed today. I won't be around to see it but I worry about my grandchildren having to live and survive in a climate of lessened morals, a lack of work ethic, and a government who controls everything.
