To Gregory:
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink from it. Fortunately (or unfortunately, if you're the horse) the problem rectifies itself. Either the horse will eventually drink, or the horse will drop dead of dehydration. The same is true of a liberal. Either he/she will one day grow up and become a conservative, or they will drop dead of the dehydration that comes with the realization that all liberal ideas end up in one of two places: bankruptcy or tyranny.

Like the USSR, North Korea, Cuba, El Salvador, Greece, Yugoslavia. Headed that way: Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, and others soon to be named. Capitalism is the way to go. The only capitalist nation to fail is one that turned socialist.

I am glad to see you agree with me that the following people are immature (aka "not grown up"), as by your definition not conservative: John McCain, Bob Dole, Orrin Hatch, Mitt Romney (well now that you are stuck with him you pretend he is conservative), John Boehner, Chuck Hagle, Colin Powell (remember -- war hero), etc, etc, etc. I would rather be in company with these "immature people" (your words), than with whiny teabaggers such as Palin, Hannity, Beck, Rush LOL LOL. They are the ones that need to grow up.

To The Good Atheist:
Oh believe me, if you think I'm very happy about having Mitt Romney as a presidential candidate, you can think again. Mitt is in my opinion very liberal for my tastes (so is everybody else on the top list). Simply put, however, I would vote for anybody but Barack Obama. Heck, I would rather have Hillary Clinton as president than Barack. How sad is that? Why? Because in the history of our nation there is no one man who has done more damage and destruction to our nation than Barack Hussein Obama.

Oh, it's not so funny when your side is the target, is it ? I'll bet you were rolling on the floor laughing at the various lame "shrub" jokes that were going around about 5-10 years ago. You would probably have thought the baby picture caption hilarious if the name had been "Bush" instead of "Obama."
Political humor typically uses satire to illustrate the perceived folly of a politician, and tends to have a bite. It is most effective when it has an element of plausibility, as in Clint Eastwood's portrayal of a grouchily defensive Mr. Obama in the _ . / \
Some political humor is really ugly and disrespectful, such as the distortion of a person's name, or obvious slanders. Reviling is wrong. Period. But illustrating the absurdity of a person's opinions is not necessarily a bad thing; a wise person who is the target of such will do a reality check of his position and try to understand why another sees it as foolish.
Just remember this the next time you hear a Democrat make a nasty crack about a Republican - those usually aren't funny, and rarely have I heard anything constructive in the implicit criticism (unlike the cartoons pointing out the Democrats' seeming blindness to the economic catastrophe caused by excessive government spending).

There is a group of people that do not get the empty chair. It means that obama is an empty chair (no leadership, no positivie mentorship, no coaching, no teaching). We have not had a budget since his election into POTUS seat. A seat that is supposed to mean something. The lack of a budget lead by the POTUS means we have 5 trillion or more in debt in less than 4 years. It means the USA needs a leader that will make the hard decisions on the details. Every drop in the bucket that US taxpayer can save will mean in time the bucket will fill up.

No Paul, the empty chair was where George W Bush would have sat if the party/Fox News were not so ashamed of him as not to invite him to the convention. Too bad that Clint's little skit failed. Even a teabagger like you can at least admit that, and not go into full spin cycle.
MNIce in Minnesota
Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Just because you didn't like or understand what was going on doesn't mean it failed. So far as I know, most of the people who saw the skit got the point, even those who didn't agree with it. As an artistic exercise in an unusual form of communication, it succeeded rather well. It was a good demonstration of a professional actor's skill.
If you are going to claim you are "Good" you must be honest with yourself and with others. Would you have evaluated Eastwood's performance differently if George Bush had been the target? Your comment strongly implies the answer is yes. Therefore, your evaluation is not honest or good. Or is it asking too much for an atheist to have a standard of good or evil? What would be the objective basis for such a standard? If you have violated the standard, how is it possible thereafter to claim to be good?
The Good Atheist in Havre, MT
Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 12:50 PM
"So far as you know" LOL LOL LOL oh crap! Ok...so you and a few of your teabagging buddies thought that skit was a success. Wow! What a large sample size. I should not quibble with such a fine educated statistician such as yourself. I am blown away LOL LOL LOL cripes! Also, I would not have evaluated that skit any different if George Bush had been the target. That is an assumption on your part, and a logical fallacy (look it up Sparky!). His skit failed regardless of who he was targeting. I think he was desparately trying to suck up to the right wing after his Super Bowl ads that were condemned by teabaggers.

Not a failure at all, but you did try. Clint Eastwood is 82 years old and still spoke better w/o a teleprompter than the present POTUS does w/ a teleprompter. Why always the sad childish attacks of President Bush and Fox News? President Bush knows his two terms as POTUS are distorted so nothing can be gained by his RNC attendance. If you do not think it is distorted: example of a false statement “We are fighting 2 wars”; Correctly stated: We are fighting one war “Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn are campaigns within GWOT”. If you argue different then WWII was about 8 wars: North Africa, China Burma India, South Pacific, South West Pacific, Central Pacific, Europe, Italy, the sea campaigns (Pacific and Atlantic) and the different Air Campaigns. Of course, there are more areas. Fox News gets this wrong, calling Afghans; “Afghanis”, Afghani is a monetary measurement not a person. I know; I have the Afghan Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. Another example of the money spent, President Bush went 4 trill over in 8 years at .5 trillion a year. Obama has accomplished about 5 trillion at 4 years or 1.25 trillion a year; about .75 trillion a year difference heavy to the present POTUS.
Fox News what do they have to do with it? They only have roughly 40% of the viewing audience while the other 6 or so networks have the other roughly 60% or 10% each, but Fox still do not have market share of the aggregate Pravada want-a-bees. I watch the other networks and read BBC, Der Ziet and some Canadian news. I do not restrict myself, but I can only handle the information that Pravada look-a-likes put out for 15 minutes then I exceed the maximum dose for Tums and Rolaids

Hey Atheist, is that your opinion or are there facts behind your bad rants? George W. decided on his own not to go, but if you were watching the convention you would have seen a very long film about the Bush's interviewing them about the presidency. Oh, they had to move Obama's acceptance speech to an indoor facility because they didnt want to show all the empty seats in the stadium they couldnt fill. Headline reads: "You didnt fill that"!

It mostly justifies the responses you receive in return to your unanswerable diatribes. If you wish to participate in an intelligent conversation change your writings to maintain logical arguments that reflect your beliefs instead of attacking the character of those that can convey their thoughts.

"..people will vote for Obama based on the enthusiasm for Obama.." I fear that you are correct on that matter. People will vote for him based on their enthusiasm, but for no other reason. They certainly will not be voting for him because he has done anything to deserve a second term. He has abdicated his responsibility to enforce the duly passed laws of this country (refusal to enforce DOMA, refusal to prosecute voter intimidation by Black Panthers); he has usurped the authority of congress on countless occasions (Libya, recess appointments when congress was not in recess); he has told us that the Constitution prevents him from doing things he would like to do; he has continued the habit of "crony capitalism" (Repubs have done it too!) by ensuring money flows to favored industries and businesses (Solyndra, GM, all the TARP beneficiaries) who typically reward them with generous campaign donations; he has taken over a sixth of GDP of this country with ObamaCare and then turned around and granted waivers to thousands of connected and favored groups (Unions especially).
Who is Barack Obama? We don't really know. All his past records have been sealed and he refuses to reveal anything. Should we be surprised by that? In one of his books, he indicates he is a blank slate upon which anyone may write what they wish. Thus he becomes what the beholder wishes to see.
Yes, they will vote for him with enthusiasm. And he will continue to provide the masses with "bread and circuses" as this country continues its downhill slide.
And no, I am not enthusiastic about Romney but I think he would do less damage to this country than Obama will.

I agree Clint Eastwood's "speech" was dead on/brilliant. Many who watched the RNC can actually quote Clint's speech almost line by line. The average viewer can barely recall one line from other speeches. Clint is a professional and I suggest he delivered every single line exactly the way he rehearsed them. He made points like political cartoons make points. Memorably. The empty chair routine will be long remembered as one of the most brilliant political speeches of all time. Nobody who watched it will soon forget it.
