The Right Opinion
The Five 'Reasons' to Re-elect Obama
The case for re-electing President Barack Obama rests on five arguments, the most important of which is that Romney/Ryan represent sexism, racism, homophobia and fascism.
1) Obama "inherited" the worst set of economic conditions since World War II.
False. Based on unemployment, inflation and interest rates, the recession of 1981-82 was worse. Unemployment during the early '80s reached 10.8 percent, inflation 13.5 percent, and prime interest rates reached 21.5 percent. During this so-called "Great Recession," the numbers peaked at 10.2 unemployment, 5.6 percent inflation and 7.25 percent for the prime interest rate.
2) Obama's economic policies "rescued the economy from falling off a cliff."
False. Nearly 350 economists, including several Nobel laureates, publicly urged Obama to following the path President Reagan pursued -- cutting taxes, slowing the growth of domestic spending and continuing deregulation.
Most business economists think Obama's "stimulus" plan accomplished little, if anything, with some academic economists, like Stanford's John Taylor, believing that the stimulus actually made things worse: "I just don't think there's any evidence. When you look at the numbers, when you see what happened, when people reacted to the stimulus, it did very little good."
TARP, begun under President George W. Bush, supposedly prevented financial institutions from collapsing. But Neil Barofsky, in his new book called "Bailout: An Inside Account of How Washington Abandoned Main Street While Rescuing Wall Street," argues that TARP completely failed in its mission: to increase liquidity to jumpstart lending.
The reason for intervention in the first place is that banks had become "too big to fail." Not only did the banks park the money and make risk-free profits off the spread, but banks became bigger than ever after TARP.
ObamaCare promises to provide health insurance to nearly 30 million Americans currently uninsured. Obama said it would bend the health care cost curve down, that it would decrease the deficit and that if you like your doctor or your current health insurance plan, you can keep it.
But Jonathan Gruber, the economist who designed both RomneyCare and ObamaCare, now admits some are going to pay more -- and some a lot more -- for their health insurance: "It is true that even after tax credits some individuals are 'losers,' in that they pay more than before (Obama's) reform." Rick Foster, the chief Medicare actuary, testified that it is "false, more so than true" that ObamaCare bends down the cost curve. He also said it is "not true in all cases" that if you like your plan you can keep your plan.
What about the "investments" in the green jobs of the future? At $529 million dollars of lost taxpayer money, Solyndra is one of many money-hemorrhaging "clean energy" flops. Other belly-flops backed by federal loans include Beacon Power and Abound Solar. A Washington Post investigation traced $3.9 billion in grants and financing to 21 companies that were backed by firms connected to five Obama administration staffers and advisors. Cronyism?
3) Bush's irresponsible tax cuts and "unpaid-for wars" of Afghanistan and Iraq caused the deficit.
False. Obama frequently bemoans the "cost" of $700 billion in tax cuts for "millionaires and billionaires." CNN's Fareed Zakaria blames the "Bush tax cuts" for the deficit. But the $700 billion Obama speaks of is spread over 10 years. This comes to a mere 5 percent of the deficit.
As to the costs of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, a study by Brown University estimates the costs at between $3.2 trillion and $4 trillion. This, too, is over about 10 years (the approximate duration of the wars), or an average of $360 billion per year. This comes out to about 25 percent of the estimated $1.5 trillion deficit.
4) We are better off now than four years ago.
A new poll for the Washington paper The Hill found 52 percent of likely voters believe the country is now in "worse condition" than four years ago, while 31 percent believe it's in "better condition." After accounting for inflation, median household income dropped 2.6 percent during the 18-month recession. It fell another 4.8 percent from the start of the "recovery" through June 2012. Unemployment stood at 7.8 percent when Obama entered the White House. It is 8.3 percent right now. We've added over $6 trillion in new debt in the last four years -- and the deficit tripled since Bush's last full year in office.
5) The other guys -- former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Paul Ryan -- are worse: sexist, racist, homophobic and fascist.
The chairman of the California Democratic Party, John Burton, following the Republican convention, gave us this preview of coming attractions: "(Republicans) lie, and they don't care if people think they lie. As long as you lie, (Nazi propaganda minister) Joseph Goebbels -- the big lie -- you keep repeating it."
Welcome to the 2012 Democratic National Convention: Republican attendees are advised to keep their sheets and hoods at home.

The United States Post Office is losing $30,000,000 ( MILLION) Per day, not a misprint PER DAY! Now we are told the Goverment can run Health Care Better than the private sector. What other success stories does Uncle Sam have? AMTRAK? Social Security?

It sounds good thear but the ones who need to be convinced are those who will vote for the current occupant of the White House, probably reluctantly. If you enjoy "preaching to the choir" enjoy the next four years of Obama. Unfortunately he is matched in amateurish incompetence by those running Romney's campaign.

Bill, you mention "the next four years," as if elected again this Marxist butthole will voluntarily surrender the keys to the White House.

All good posts so far. I like the "you can keep your insurance" lie the best. My parents had pharmacy coverage with their retired insurance through Raytheon (Lowell, MA; ie Kennedy ring a bell). When Medicare Part D was pushed through legislation (Kennedy), Raytheon sent out a letter to all pharmacy holders and said no fear, you get to keep your coverage. About 6 months later, Raytheon dropped the pharmacy coverage because the Part D reduced Raytheon's costs, but increased my parents costs. So that lie rings quite true for my family. Yes everyone can keep their insurance until the businesses start dropping it in favor of the cheaper insurance, but not really the better insurance. Hold on citizens, the ride is not over yet from either party.

Never in our long history have we had a President (i refrain from using leader) who has taken less responsibility for his lack of effective action, blamed his predecessor even as he approaches re election, or so blaintantly disregards the Consitution of the United States. His actions and words are so negative towards our country, it is easy to believe he is not really an American.

Re; #3 We must quit talking about this issue as a "Tax Cut" after 10 years of the tax rate being dropped a bit. This rate was now the tax rate for a decade and longer and we have falled into the trap of using the same terminology as the Dem's, by referring to the tax rate as a "Tax Cut'....Please!!!! Besides, it has been proven over and over again in history, that when you drop the tax rate, you increase the monies coming into the Federal coffers. It DID NOT cost us $700 M...even over 10 years. It actually brought more monies in rathr than cost us. Why do we conservatives always give in on the language. Lothar

"Cutting taxes on the millionaires and billionaires" is not the issue. Canceling the Democrats' planned tax increases for most taxpayers is.

You are wasting time telling this to the readers of this blog. We all know all of this and are more or less convinced. If you want to have any effect you need to figure out, and quickly, to convince the voting public motivated by greed, envy and class warfare and scared by that the Dims have been merchandising for decades of the truth of this (how do you convince people who believe Bill Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Shultz are telling the truth?).

You don't. Some people can be convinced, and some are too far gone. The ones that listen to that idiot DWS and believe Clinton, after all this time, are too far gone

I have heard the statement that President Obama and Bill Clinton have found a common bond. Then I put it together, both have brought shame and disgrace to the office of “President of the United States”. But I still would think having the likes of “Slick Willy” indorse me would not be that beneficial.

So true, especially when he voted "present" on a great number of issues to avoid taking a real position that would possibly expose his agenda.

Spot on: GREAT summary and a perfect format for debunking the LIES told by the democrats: They truly believe that they can scare, slime and propagandize their way into another 4 years.
Check out this video: Eat The Rich at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=661pi6K-8WQ
It is truly amazing just how large our deficit andf debt has become, all driven by out of control spending. If you check the "debtclock.org 'Wayback Machine'" and the government's own budget office historical tables, you will see that we have DOUBLED spending in just a few short years.
The dems like to blame Bush and the rich for everything, but check the facts. As they like to trumpet that "they" (under Clinton) presided over the last surplus, which Bush "squandered", as yourself why they DOUBLED the annual federal spending amounts since that last surplus. Ask why the Dem controlled senate refuses to put ANY budget on the floor for debate: It is because they want to circumvent the people and the budget process in order to continue draining our pockets (and thoser of our grandchildren) using the "CRA method" (which authorizes continuing spending at previous levels when there is no approved budget).
Crazy. Defense is the only legitimiate category of spending under the Constitution and these folkswant to keep spending unconstitutionally on other things.

There is a great deal of political & religious bias/slander flowing in this election. I must agree with the points raised as to why Obama must be replaced; however, I can't resist responding to their definition of 'are you better off now than four years ago'. Of course they are better off than four years ago. After all, Obama has a big White House which he & Michele share along with an unlimited credit card so tha they can enjoy themselves. Rahm Emmanuel is much better off than four years ago along with all the rest of Obama's entourage, they do not have an unlimited credit card but the limit is so high no one notices. Has anything that Obama accomplished benefited the middle class or has he improved on the performance of Bush - answered with a resounding NO! But, but , but we can't elect a Mormon. His religious views will be forced onto the public as well as government operations. No more so than all the Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, etc. that have held that office in the past. But,but, but - we can but ourselves to death looking for excuses why we can't do something and it generally results in us doing nothing (or the wrong thing). They say that Romney is an unknown but Obama still has not released ANY of his authenticated records from the time of his birth forward. If you called for Obama's last ten years of income tax records, you would be met with an 'Executive Privilege' denying the request (or in other words, I, Obama, will use whatever excuse I can to hide my past.). The bottom line is that the Obama administration has done nothing but to tear down a great deal of our nation, ignore the Constitution, commit treason and get away with it all. All that Romney has done is be a good business man who now wants to transfer some of that expertise to repairing the damage done to the government for the past 100+ years. Who should we vote for?
