The Latest Poll Results

I would like to thank all of you who took part in my recent poll. The question was which three Republican candidates you liked best and which you disliked the most. Although there were many more men than women who took part, there wasn’t much of a gender divide when it came to those you preferred and those who would force you to hold your nose in the voting booth when casting your vote against Hillary, Joe or Bernie, in 2016. Although there is no exact way to measure the difference in enthusiasm between a first place vote and a third place vote, the top first place vote-getters were Cruz (58), followed by Fiorina (29), Carson (21) and Rubio (20. The only other contenders in double figures were Walker (19), Trump (16) and Jindal (10).

When it came to those you disliked, Trump led with 52 first place votes, followed by Jeb Bush with 42, Lindsey Graham with 30, Paul (16), Christie (14) and Pataki (10).

When it came to combining first, second and third place negative votes, Sen. Graham led with 96, followed by Bush with 83, Trump with 77, Paul (52), Christie (50), Pataki (48), Kasich (27), Gilmore (26) and Santorum (20).

Finally, when it came to the biggest differentials between positive and negative votes, Ted Cruz led with a +109, Carly Fiorina ran second with a +101 followed by Ben Carson (+83), Marco Rubio (+65), Scott Walker (+54) and Bobby Jindal (+27).

To be fair, Scott Walker, who received 58 favorable votes and only four negatives, bowed out about halfway through the vote.

Jim Gilmore and George Pataki were the only candidates who didn’t receive a single positive vote, which is saying something, considering that even Mike Huckabee received three and Santorum and Graham each received two. On the other side of the ledger, Carly Fiorina was the only candidate who didn’t receive a single negative vote. For the record, Marco Rubio received four, while Ted Cruz and Ben Carson received three nays.

With just two positive votes and 96 negatives, Lindsey Graham led the losers with a minus 94. The others with double-digit negatives were Bush (-73), Pataki (-48), Rand Paul (-45), Chris Christie (-42), Jim Gilmore (-26), Mike Huckabee (-23), Rick Santorum (-18) and John Kasich (-15).

For those wondering about Donald Trump’s score, he received 16 first place favorable votes, 9 second place votes and 13 third place votes. On the negative side of the ledger, he received 52 first place votes, 11 seconds and 14 thirds. Women particularly disliked him, giving him only four favorable votes and 11 unfavorable, all of them for first place on the negative side of the ledger. Add them all together and you have 38 favorable votes and 77 negatives for a minus 39.

I kept wondering why Jim Gilmore wasn’t on stage with Rand Paul, Bobby Jindal, Lindsey Graham and George Pataki, during the early debate, and waited in vain for someone to explain his absence. It wasn’t until the next day that I heard that CNN had arbitrarily decided that his poll numbers didn’t warrant his appearance. I hope you understand I didn’t miss him. But where the heck does CNN get off deciding who does and who doesn’t belong on stage at a GOP debate? When it comes to numbers, CNN’s are nothing to brag about. In fact, if there were to be a debate among networks, CNN would be left in the wings with MSNBC while ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News, duked it out.

In the aftermath, the most startling revelation was discovering what a bigoted pinhead Ann Coulter happens to be. Although I have occasionally been amused by her articles, I have never been a fan of her TV persona. She comes across as being every bit as snarky and arrogant as Kirsten Powers and Richard Fowler, but I doubt that even those two louts have ever channeled their inner Pat Buchanan and, in response, to Cruz, Huckabee, Rubio and Christie, voicing their support for Israel, tweeted, “How many f—ing Jews do they think there are in the United States?” Later, letting us all know that it’s not only Jews she has little use for, she mused that the four Republicans might have simply been sucking up to evangelicals.

She also suggested that Mike Huckabee came across as if he were running to be the Prime Minister of Israel.

And here I thought Barack Obama was the only high profile anti-Semitic creep in America. But for those of you who might suspect that Ms. Coulter had simply been hitting the bottle earlier than usual and wasn’t responsible for her contemptible comments, it was just a few years ago that the Ayatollah Coulter announced that Jews should all convert to Christianity.

As a Jew, I’m not looking for an apology. I’m sure it would be every bit as insincere as Donald Trump’s claim that when he said Megyn Kelly was bleeding from her eyes and her whatever, he was referring to her nose, and that when he said that he couldn’t imagine anyone voting for someone who had a face like Carly Fiorina, he was referring not to her face, but to her persona.

Trump didn’t misspeak, as politicians like to say whenever they’re caught embarrassing themselves in public, and neither did Coulter.

The fact is that whereas most women have to take off their clothes in order to expose themselves. Ms. Coulter merely had to tweet.
