Palin and Prelutsky Sitting in a Tree
· Saturday, February 20, 2010
Because of Joe McCarthy’s critics, we have been told time and again that guilt by association is a cardinal sin. But I contend it makes perfect sense to judge people by their friends, but also by their enemies. Who hasn’t said, upon meeting another person, “Any friend of so-and-so is a friend of mine”? And who doesn’t subscribe to the adage that the enemy of my enemy is my friend?
I only wish that more people had paid closer attention to Barack Obama’s circle of friends in Chicago before he got to move to Washington and form an even more vicious circle.
What brings this to mind is the unending vituperation directed at Sarah Palin. So far as I’m concerned, anyone who can give conniption fits to Jon Stewart, Chris Matthews, Ellis Henican, Keith Olbermann and David Letterman, the way that Alaska’s favorite daughter can is aces in my book.
One of the things that motivates their contempt for Mrs. Palin is her alleged lack of smarts. However, if she were as dumb as they claim, they wouldn’t have to shove words she never spoke in her mouth. After all, when it comes to leftists such as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Alan Grayson, Henry Waxman, Charles Rangel and Barbara Boxer, we on the right merely have to quote them verbatim to make our case. I mean, I know Mrs. Palin didn’t attend an Ivy League school, but does any reasonably rational person actually believe that she doesn’t know the difference between North and South Korea?
For another thing, it does not require a 180 I.Q. to be president of the United States. I realize that liberals, who generally regard themselves as big brains, place undue emphasis on intellect. As a result, they have convinced themselves, against all evidence, that Jimmy Carter, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama are positively brilliant, and that in their presence Albert Einstein would turn absolutely green with envy. But, as usual, they confuse egos with brains.
What an American president requires is noble character, an abundance of common sense and the sincere conviction that America, as created by our divinely-inspired Founding Fathers, is, by any measure, the greatest nation ever conceived.
Having now read Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue,” I am convinced that she is eminently qualified to be president. She probably won’t win any prizes for her book, no matter how many copies she sells. After all, unlike the darling of the Left, she doesn’t boast about smoking pot in college, seeking out radicals and revolutionaries among the student body or Communists among the faculty.
Finally, there are three particular items in Palin’s resume that convince me that she possesses the right stuff to serve honorably in the Oval Office. One, she was never a lawyer. Two, in line with her principles -- and proving that she has principles that aren’t a mere bagatelle she dusts off during elections -- she never hesitated to give birth to Trig, her Down syndrome baby. And, three, unlike Gore, the Clintons, Barney Frank, John Kerry and the Obamas, she, like Abe Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, didn’t, I’ll remind you, attend an Ivy League school.

Priceless Palin purple prose per Prelutsky!
OK, I'm not even sure what "purple prose" is but couldn't resist the opportunity for alliteration. Great column, Burt!

Mr. Prelutsky, I will agree with you. We do not need Lawyers, unless there is sufficient evidence to prove that their "education" has NOT influenced them.
What happens to them when they go to "law school" (whether it is ivy-league or little league) They are taught to become "double-minded". James 1:8, " A double-minded Man is unstable in all his ways"
Hence they are "educated" not to be "trustworthy"!!!!! That's a very dangerous state of mind.
Reckon, we just need common, God-fearing people who have read the Constitution and fear God enough not to violate their Oath of Office.

Dear Mrs. Wilson: I'm always happy to find I'm not alone in my conclusions.

Mr. Prelutsky, have you ever heard the term "educated idiot"? How about the Peter Principle, whereby man rises to his level of incompetence? I am in 100% agreement with Ruth Ann (which is not uncommon), we need more common, run-of-the-mill, working people in control. Where in the constitution does it say, only those with law degrees may serve? I think both parties are going to find themselves homeless after November. The way things are headed, very few incumbants of any affiliation will be re-elected. I think a law degree may be somewhat of a handicap this fall. Oh, sheesh, now that I've said that, some enterprising young lawyer will file for proteced status, making it a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act to vote against him. I better shut up before I give them any more ideas. The point is, the lawyers have gotten us into this mess, but I don't believe they're the ones to get us out of it. And not just the congresscritter lawyers, either. There would be a lot less regulation if private enterprises weren't worried about getting sued by everyone and their brother for every little niggling problem. To quote the Bard: "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers", Dick the butcher, Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, scene II. Or, as Don Henley put it, "The more I think about it, old Willie was right, let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight", "Get Over It", from the album "Hell Freezes Over" by the Eagles.

Brian--I keep forgetting that I wasn't the first writer to suggest killing all the lawyers. Thanks for reminding me that Shakespeare beat me to it by a few hundred years.

It's the tragically overlooked duplicity of the Left: Liberals try to paint themselves as "common" folk who identify with "common" people. Yet they love to paint their opponents as imbeciles who never attended Harvard, trailer trash too ordinary to be leaders. Of course, sometimes their opponents are Ivy League grads, in which case the Liberals paint them as rich fat cats out of touch with the common people. We've not supposed to notice that the Liberals are just as rich.
Funny how that works. It really doesn't matter what the GOP candidate is. If he's rich, that's a negative. If he's not, that's a negative too. But those exact same qualities are always positives when the media is talking about Liberal candidates. They had orgasmic convulsions over Obama because they could play their three favorite cards. 1) he was black, 2) he was a Harvard grad and 3) he came from modest means. Talk about a trifecta! The only thing that would have been better from a Liberal standpoint would have been if Obama were gay. If we thought Chris Matthews had a tingle running up his leg now, think what it might been like then!
Palin has real values. They're not props. They're not part of a costume she wears because she thinks voters want to see them. She really makes them a focus of her life. Mr Prelutsky makes a great point in that the Left must put words in her mouth to make her look stupid while all we have to do is quote what Liberals actually say. Liberals really are their own worst enemies. They do more to hurt themselves than anything we could dream of doing. Thank goodness!
