Send in the Clowns
· Saturday, July 16, 2011
Recently, Jon Stewart found himself in the unenviable position of having people questioning whether or not he's a racist. The truth is, he had nobody to blame but himself because, employing an accent unheard since the days of "Amos 'n' Andy," he mocked Herman Cain.
I'm proud to say that I wasn't one of those who questioned him. That's because I believed the answer was self-evident. He's a liberal, after all. Therefore, he promotes affirmative action, proving that, like the political party to which he pledges allegiance, he regards blacks as mentally inferior, incapable of competing academically with Caucasians and Asians. If that's not racism, what is?
The better question is whether Jon Stewart (Jonathan Lebowitz in an earlier life) is a comedian. That, after all, is how people like himself, Joy Behar, Bill Maher and Michael Moore, always identify themselves when confronted by an intelligent conservative. How many times have we heard Stewart and friends insist, "I'm not some political pundit, I'm just a comedian"? By which they mean, they don't have to tell the truth or stick to the facts. But in that case, isn't it at least their responsibility to be funny?
All I ever get from Mr. Stewart and his stable of writers are lame insults directed at conservatives, followed by a great deal of bad mugging on his part. That invariably leads to gales of hysterical laughter from his juvenile audience, but all of us who grew up on sit coms have long grown accustomed to canned laughter.
Frankly, when I hear the nits cackling over some inanity uttered by Stewart, Behar or Maher, it helps me to understand how it is that people wind up electing the likes of Obama, Pelosi and Reid. Whoever it was who said that people get the leaders they deserve was right on the money.
When leftwing louts can divert legitimate criticism by insisting they're comedians, I'm surprised it hasn't occurred to people like Schumer, Boxer, Waxman, Durbin and Barney Frank, to fend off attacks by reminding us that they're just a bunch of clowns.
Finally, I believe that most people, including liberals, are aware that the road to success more often than not consists of getting the appropriate education, avoiding drug use and being raised in a two-parent home. And while it's true that some people manage to prosper in spite of being raised by a single parent, it's not the optimum situation.
Predictably, in the majority of cases, people who wind up in the gutter or prison come from broken homes, are high school drop-outs and regard drugs as the permanent solution to temporary problems. The exceptions to the rule are those men who, no matter how ideal their upbringing, somehow wind up being the governor of Illinois or the president of the Teamsters. Over the past 50 years, there is hardly one of them who hasn't wound up, like Rod Blagojevich, trading in his gray pinstripes for prison stripes.
I can't help thinking that it would save us all a lot of time, trouble and expense, if these schmucks went directly from the swearing-in ceremony to signing-in at Joliet.

Burt, please don't insult clowns by linking them with the crooks and/or mental midgets in Washington.

Howard: A secret to be kept just between the two of us. Although I am not one of those people who are frightened of clowns, I never thought they were funny. Even as a kid, when I went to the circus, they struck me as noisy and needless distractions from the acrobats and trapeze artists. Noisy, needless, distractions...is it any wonder they remind me of those politicians I mentioned?

Burt, thanks for another thought provoking article. Clowns came to my mind this AM as I watched the politicians of both parties surround their ill-defined “leadership” announcing their equally ludicrous, vacuous proposals for solving the debt crisis. As far as I can tell, there is not one member of Congress, Obama’s Executive Branch, or the Judiciary who is showing any respect whatsoever to the American People. Tracy Chapman once sang, “Please give the President my kindest regards for disregarding me.” In my lifetime, the disrespect and disregard by elected politicians for America have never been greater, including the reign of the conniving, lying miscreant and nouveau riche, “the Bubba”. The twisted spinning and manipulation of facts by these Bozos and the talking heads are enough to make one wish for an escape into clown fantasy. We certainly have the opportunity each time the clownish images of Barney “what the hell is dat driffing out of my mouff” Frank, Chuck “the VP like Hairplug” Schummer, Maxine “no makeup needed” Waters, and, of course, your bud, Henry ‘no makeup needed either’ Waxman. Unfortunately, clowns should make people laugh, but all I can do is cry. Therefore, I must conclude that we have no clowns in Queerville, only BUFFOONS. FYI – The Clown’s Prayer – Anonymous
As I stumble through this life,
help me to create more laughter than tears,
dispense more cheer than gloom,
spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me become so indifferent,
that I will fail to see the wonders in the eyes of a child,
or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.
Never let me forget that my total effort
is to cheer people, make them happy,
and forget momentarily,
all the unpleasantness in their lives.
And in my final moment,
may I hear You whisper:
“When you made My people smile,
you made Me smile.”
Oh, the irony! We need some real CLOWNS.

Burt - Like you I never thought clowns were funny. I also thought clowns performed no useful purpose, just like politicians. My thinking changed when we relocated to outside of Cheyenne, WY and became volunteers for Cheyenne Frontier Days. The rodeo clowns or Bullfighters protect the cowboy who is thrown by the bull. How would you like to get in front of a 2,000 plus animal that wants to gore you or jump on you? And that is when he is being nice.

Howard--I agree that rodeo clowns are a different breed, although I never quite understood why they dressed that way. To amuse the bulls?
As to your question, you first have to tell me if my option to being gored by the bull is being gored by Obama and his geldings in Congress; in which case, I would opt for the bull over the bullsh*t artists.
Regards, Burt

Burt - what I say about the crooks and/or mental midgets in Washington, "they don't even kiss you first."
I assume the bullfighters dress that way out of tradition. The rodeo starts on the 23rd will ask one of the clowns. BTW, they are much much nicer and down to earth people then the a##holes in Washington.

Burt, the only clown I liked was Red Skelton who made my young heart break with his pathos. Corny, I know now but didn't then. Howard, am impressed with your rodeo bravery. Mayhaps you could go to DC & distract the politicians from enacting anything.

bubbiepupik - I agree with you on Red Skelton. He had the best TV show ever. I just help out in the stands during Frontier Days, you will not get me to stand in front of a charging bull.

The clowns in DC are more like Killer Clowns. Just over 500 criminals in DC are spending our time, our money, and our lives, posturing for current position or future election with little more than annoyance because we the people exist. Were it up to me I'd send in the Federal Marshall's today, arrest and detain the lot of them, and take a few years to sort out the many ways they've broken their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. Then, if found guilty I'd vote for the death penalty, if found not guilty my vote would remain the same. We've been hoodwinked, lied to, taken advantage of, and dishonored enough. It's time for the job of the politician becomes like jury duty instead of like winning the damn lottery.

The clowns are already here, but the act is far from being funny.

Burt, there is a reason why we both find clowns and certain comedians repulsive. Is not their humor and actions actually mimicing that of retarded people? So why should we be expected to laugh at them, but not the mentally challenged? Present-day comedians, like Behar, Stewart, and Maher, are mentally challenged clowns trying to impress other mentally challenged clowns into thinking they are normal people.

Burt,
How do you explain Bill Clinton and Obama? Both came from "broken" and "disfuntional" homes. Both rose to be the most powerful leader in the world. And Reagan, his father was an alcoholic, and he grew up poor. He did, however, live in a two-parent home, and had a moral and Christian upbringing. Coincidence? I think not.
Clinton should have ended up in jail (there's still time), and Obama probably will eventually. So, I agree with you there. I just don't understand how we ended up with these "low-lifes" in office (Clinton and Obama, of course).
I think of "success" as what a person accomplishes in life. Their "legacy". Here's my take on a few:
Clinton - Lewinski, infidelity, no morals.
John Edwards - Absolutely no morals.
Reagan - Integrity, courage, great thinker, won Cold War, thoughtful, MORAL to the bone.
Obama - TBD, God help us.

Burt, good thing you keep mentioning the insufferable Henry Waxman, whose face most unmistakably resembles a ferret-faced clown. Wasn't he an LA County supervisor back in ancient history? He was lousy then, too. Now his lousiness has been elevated to national status.
Much like the Clown In Chief Obama, a stooge who came out of nowhere, and has now been elevated to national nothingness.
I keep wondering -- where is the national outrage against such charlatans? What will it take to put these miscreants under arrest?

The best analogy for the Circus (DC Beltway)...clowns, donkeys, & elephants all putting on the show...
Ya know what they say about guys with big hands and big feet....they're clowns...

To all, especially to you Burt since you seem to know him, doen't Waxman look just like Lon Chaney Srin the scene from "Phantom of the Opera" where the girl unmasks him? I'm refering to the silent version.

Your comparison of comedians and Congress reminds one of a sardonic remark attributed to Will Rogers. “When comedians make a joke, it’s funny. When Congess makes a joke, it’s a law.” Accordingly Obamacare should evoke gales of hysterical laughter.

@ Midfielder, Bingo! You nailed it.
The only clown I ever liked was Soupy Sales, who didn't wear the makeup. We have an emperor-clown "in charge," whose clothes are "transparent."
Burt, what can we do to press for arrest of this con-man? You could write a script for it.
And, your articles just get better and better.
