Pinning the Tail on the Donkeys

· Thursday, January 5, 2012

There are so many bad things one can say about those on the Left, one hardly knows where to begin. But one of their most annoying traits is that they absolutely refuse to acknowledge that they've ever been wrong even when actual events, as opposed to the fiction so often spun by liberal professors and historians, confirms it time and again.

For instance, when I was a youngster, Time magazine editor Whittaker Chambers testified that Alger Hiss, the fair-haired boy of FDR's and Truman's State Department, was not only a member of the Communist Party, but an agent of the Soviet Union. The way that the Left erupted, you might have thought that Chambers was a latter-day Pontius Pilate and that Hiss was Jesus. Even when the Soviet Union released the Venona Papers years later, proving that Hiss had indeed been one of their agents -- in other words, a traitor, one of Stalin's useful idiots -- the Left refused to acknowledge their collective naiveté.

Along the same lines, one never heard the likes of NY Times foreign correspondent Walter Duranty, playwright Lillian Hellman or film director Abe Polansky, ever acknowledge that they'd been dangerously mistaken in paying homage to Joe Stalin. And when did you ever hear of Hollywood's lefties beg anyone's pardon for tithing the Soviet Union or acknowledging that long before any of them had been blacklisted, they had engaged in blacklisting conservative screenwriters such as Morrie Ryskind?

Did any of those on the Left ever denounce their younger selves for insisting during the Cold War that the United States should have unilaterally disarmed itself of nuclear bombs, thus setting, as they fatuously claimed, a good example for the Russians?

Did any of those louts ever declare a mea culpa for demanding that Ronald Reagan be impeached if, for nothing else, referring to the Soviet Union as an "evil empire" and then regurgitating their moral outrage all over again when George W. Bush declared that Iran, North Korea and Saddam Hussein's Iraq, constituted an "axis of evil"?

Apparently nothing ticks off a leftist more than calling a spade a garden utensil.

Anyone with a frontal lobe recognizes that the economic chaos in Europe is the direct result of socialist nanny states promising to provide their citizens with all their material needs in exchange for over-inflating the size of government. And yet lunkheads like Obama, Pelosi, Waxman and Reid, refuse to recognize the predictable results of these idiotic policies even when confronted with the inevitable riots every night on the evening news.

One definition of insanity is constantly repeating the same action in the cockeyed belief that the results will eventually be different. In the case of Leftists, if you point out that socialism doesn't work any better in Wisconsin or Ohio than it did in the Soviet Union or does in Greece, they argue that it simply has never been done correctly. In the wake of such bloody failures as China, Nazi Germany, Cambodia, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea, only a certifiable lunatic would even consider defending socialism on such shaky ground. However, when it comes to unequivocal devotion to failed attempts at social engineering, those on the Left could give collies and cocker spaniels lessons in blind loyalty.

If I haven't yet convinced you that those who inhabit the ranks of the Left are dangerously self-righteous and unbelievably stupid, consider that they not only elected Barney Frank to Congress, but then kept doing it 15 more times. Consider, too, that they hold the unholy likes of Jimmy Carter, Michael Moore and Michael Bloomberg, in high regard.

Finally, never forget that one of the intellectual heroines of the Left, Susan Sontag, once declared, "The white race is the cancer of human history," and, as usual, she was being deadly serious; and that Barack Obama, after once acknowledging that America was the greatest nation on the face of the earth -- no doubt with his fingers crossed behind his back -- went on to announce that, as president, he intended to radically transform it!

Burt,

I kept on thinking why do these morons keep beating that dead dog of socialism?

Then I came to the understanding that it's not about any social advancement or some other noble cause. It's about power.

Can you think of any easier profession where one can have power, control over the masses, wealth beyond avarice, adulation to stroke an insatiable ego and open doorways for your children and close followers?

Obama is well read, well connected and has been given the outline for success in that profession.

I do believe his agenda is even more sinister than that, but how he got there and how smug his contempt for us is, he will ultimately pay for not by his Allah but by my God.

Burt,

Your article brought to mind also the traitor Hanoi Jane Fonda, who turned in the notes passed to her by the prisoners, resulting in their toture. If that doesn't fit the bill of treason, nothing does, and she posed for pictures on enemy guns. There was no punishment for this, on the contrary, she is a hero of the left. That is what makes the left so dangerous to America, they would enslave us all for our own benefit, as long as they were in charge, with their own set of rules for the elite.

As I see it, those who become liberals fail to hurdle obstacles along the maturation process and instead simply skirt around unhurdled obstacles.

To then deal with reality they invent an illusion they then pretend they believe is reality. Once they finally believe their illusion is reality they have gone insane.

At this point, the achievement of insanity, they must at all cost prove their illusion to be reality to themselves and the world, for failure to prove this forces them to admit their illusion is just that, illusion.

This in turn would force them to see their failure to mature in general, and that monster obstacle they ran away from specifically. It is the avoidence of seeing that monster obstacle they skirted that forces them to prove their illusion is reality. This of course cannot be done.

As always there is a price to be paid for an act of guile in the game of social chess. However, it is not the individual liberal who shoulders this burden alone but the entire group to which he belongs.

Once their illusion is forced onto the group, the group experiences tyranny, and tyranny always begets misery.

Socialism and Islam are tyranny that begets both poverty and misery. The illusions that liberals of the West, including here in America, espouse, lead directly to one or both of these consequences of their failure to mature and the subsequent insane belief in their own illusion.

Nobama 2012, vote republican. Thank you.

The "ideology" of the left is not simple. They themselves probably will never figure out why they are leftists, and when we tell them why they are leftists, the will deny it. It is all based upon the natural human condition of depravity. Those of us who try our best to keep our own depravity in check and somewhat under control are political, financial, and religious conservatives. As painful as it is, we constrain our base instincts and desires because we know that if the whole world gets to a depraved condition, the earth is finished. Liberals, defined as those with their heads in the sand who choose to believe in communism, free love, free everything, and no rule of law, do not wish to be constrained in thought or action. They are like the alleged scientist who said, "I see nothing here to indicate the existence of fish", while facing 180 degrees away from the physical evidence. This is what liberals do because if they admitted facts, they would have to admit that they are accountable to a supreme being. Liberals do not want to be accountable to anyone except themselves, and they are, as we know, pretty non-selfcritical. They will never admit they are wrong. All that matters to them is an agenda that avoids accountability of any sort, financial, moral or otherwise. Understand all this, and you understand the mind of a liberal. It is a difficult read, but the Book of Revelation, at the end of the New Testament, describes the world that the liberals will eventually create. It will scare the pants off you. Fortunately, believers will miss out on all the fun stuff such as nuclear wars, mass starvations, plagues, and other horrors because believers will be taken up en masse by God to be with him in heaven well before the crap hits the fan. The non-believing liberals will be left on the ground to contend with the worst behavior and conditions that mankind can invent.

Burt,

Excellent piece as always.

I and my wife must associate with her relatives (KU grads, Union members and State employees - need I say more?). Thus, you can understand my avoidance of 'family functions'.

Thes folks are all nice, decent people who are close to being legally insane. See Lyle Rossiter's book: "The Liberal Mind".

Their bathroom reading is the Huffington Post, Media Matters and other assorted pieces of TP.

I firmly believe that there is NO hope for these folks. I only hope that they will soon be deemed cognitively impared and sent to "the Home".

ps - mccrindle - thanks for the suggestion yesterday re "L&L". I agree 1000% with you.

I actually was refering to an impending vacation where we were going to load our vehicle and lock it.

Nothing here for me to disagree with. But I would suggest to Bo that he start using paragraph breaks. A solid block of type is very off-putting.

@BoFromTexas- your comment was the second time today I have seen the Liberals described as having "their head in the sand". I would offer a differant location, albeit with the same results; they stil can't (won't) see reality.

The scariest thing of all is people like our "red diaper" flaming liberal friend in Napa KNOWS that liberalism cannot work. He is well-educated and fairly well to do. He is also a former Weatherman, educated at Berkley, has two masters, and his JD. Did I mention that he is a capitalist although he would never admit it? "His" people believe that they can placate the masses with substandard healthcare, food, housing and the like---after all "it beats nothing, doesn't it"? He is safe in the towers of upper earners and in the hills; he believes that you can sell people their suffering and that they will accept that. He may be right about the sheeple but he is very wrong when it comes to believing he is safe. They will eventually rebel and maraude and this anti-second amendment zealot will only have sticks to defend himself. Maybe he doesn't care because he has no children/grandchildren...what does he care about the long term future of the U.S.? Don't be fooled people; many liberals know the insanity they foster -- they just don't give a damn except for themselves in the here and now. They are the selfish and greedy. Their protestations are more projections against their own failings which they don't see as flaws.

wjmcrindle: I served in the US Army in RVN from 12/68 to 3/71. I was back in CONUS when Fonda pulled her stunt. I remember being at first puzzled, then damned angry that she was giving the VC the recognition they needed. Kerry did much the same thing with that "Winter Soldier" bull. I have nothing but contempt for both of them. Having said that, I don't believe the story about her passing notes given her by POW's to the Hanoi Hilton cadre is true. That doesn't change my thinking about Fonda one whit. I've got a bumper sticker on my motorcycle that says it all: "Jane. Phone home. 1-800-Hanoi".

I cannot add anything to this wonderful article, except to state I have seen the left time and time again brag about being "critical thinkers". This little self-described and unabashed love for their own thinking should tell you everything you need to know about the left. They believe they are smart. Smarter than you. Smarter than anyone. They think you are ignorant because you do not grasp their way of thinking. When sadly, it all comes down to the fact that the most dangerous people on the face of the earth are the people who actually BELIEVE they are smarter than everyone else.

The liberals believe that Barack Obama is a god and that we owe them and the Government everything. It is utterly sickenning to hear the lies and the hate coming from the mouths of the left. They want us to just sit back, shut up, and let them take our money and our freedom. We have to vote out Obama, Pelosi, Reide, and the rest of the liberal ilk in politics. Then we need to Make sure that the IRS, EPA, ACLU, BATFE, Department of Education, and the rest of the overfunded, liberal, unnescessary government agencies get disbanded. It's high time that the liberal machine get stopped and we become America again.

Just a question Burt, but in your second to last paragraph you state "If I haven't convinced you yest...". We who religiously read The Patriot Post know how insane the left is. Are your articles printed elsewhere but here on this site? Again, just a question and not trying to slander what you said because I whole-heartedly agree with you. I just hope your message gets to the lunkheads who are still blinded by these mental midgets a.k.a. democrats.

Burt, Please look into the Federal Protective Services. On Drudge today was an article from Florida. A Social Security office was used for a drill by this DHS private army. No one in the office was informed of the purpose, nor would the officers explain what was going on. This totally creeps me out, especially with the TSA causing so much trouble. What in th world is happening to our country?

Thank you for your articles.

"One definition of insanity is constantly repeating the same action in the cockeyed belief that the results will eventually be different." This is Albert Einstein's definition of insanity. How many people realize he was a leftist. Other than physics one of the few times he was correct. When it comes to physicists, how come Edward Teller never gets the credit he deserves? Could it be because he was a Conservative and invented the H bomb?

Hi Burt & gang;

Great piece as always including comments.

However, I beg to differ w/ your opening: 'There are so many bad things one can say about those on the Left, one hardly knows where to begin.'

Why do we say 'bad' things about them? Not just due to their selfishness, or irrationality, or delusions, lack of maturity, ad nauseam.

Because of their character flaws, they do & perpetuate EVIL (not yelling, just emphasis) in its most abhorrent permutations. It begins w/ lies, propaganda, incremental dumbing-down of the young & the masses. As soon as they seize power (the main & 1st objective), they destroy liberty & prosperity while amassing amazing wealth for them from the 'enemies of progress.'

As one of the very few readers of PP & your musings who had had direct experience w/ the insanity turned evil & the brutality of the loony Left, we must stop just saying bad things about the Left & begin to do things about them, now. If we just sit idly by & read & vent at the PP, they will win come November. We need to keep confronting them wherever we are, be they family, friends, neighbors & educate them w/ facts & consequences of their believes to them. Make it personal.

Lastly, Burt, have yourself a great & happy B'day.

And to all, a prosperous, free & blessed 2012.

Joni Mitchell. Unlike most of the Anti-War crowd like Hanoi Jane Fonda and John Kerry, she said, "I was wrong about Vietnam" after the fall of Saigon, with the revelations of the reeducation camps and the Boat People. She is probably the exception that proves the rule! (BTW, if you haven't read _Stolen Valor: How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of its Heroes and its History_ by B.G. Burkett & Glenna Whitley, you should.)

OTOH, there was a saying about some conservatives were liberals until they were mugged. Perhaps there is some hope, after all, if only they have a sufficiently noticable impact with reality. (Not necessarily requiring violence per se, I hope.)

An objective, arms-length example of the difference of socialist/communist results vs. free enterprise and rule of law, one could hardly do better than look at the Koreas. Before the Korean War, the North was the rich, industrial part. The South was poor and agricultural. Now South Korea is wealthy and the North is literally starving its people to pay for its huge military expenditures and the avarice of its "leaders." Look at a picture of the peninsula from space at night; the North is dark while the South is a glittering jewel of artificial light. (As long as I'm recommending books, _This Kind of War_ by TR Fehrenbach is the classic.)

Burt, I hope is was a good birthday. The essence of birthday celebrations are that we are glad you exist among us, and with you that is abundantly true!

The "anti-war" leftist elites love to knock the U.S., its government and foreign policies and point out how "the man" got what his arrogant pride had coming when he lost the Vietnam War, -that war against brave, honorable fellow leftists of the Viet Cong and NVA variety, but their warped minds can't even get the facts straight. The U.S. wasn't even in Vietnam when it fell to Hanoi. We packed up and left finally in 1973 and the country then enjoyed two full years of peace until the North suddenly invaded in 1975. So how does one lose a war that they weren't even involved in? (minor detail that just gets in the way of their We-knew-better-than-them mindset). If you don't like the facts change them, deny them, or ignore them. Those are definitely signs of mental imbalance.

Ol'Joe

Mr. Prelutsky, Happy Birthday! I pray you have plenty more birthdays to get more wishes. Why liberals think socialism will work here when it does not anywhere else is foolish. Their propensity is always to re-name their plan of attack and try it over again under a new name thinking it will work better with the new moniker. I do not think so. Re-labeling "socialism" as "liberalism" or "hope and change" still stinks.

Never forget that socialism gets its power from the favors and political power mongering of the corporations, the banks, the politicians that barter the time, talents and property of the people they pretend to represent. If it were not for the chrony capitialism of the right, the left would have no power base from which to operate.

The failure to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God is the reason for the wars and rumors of wars, the rule of the democratic mobs and the elevation of tyrants into positions of power.
