Numbers Don't Lie, Liberals Do

· Monday, February 6, 2012

Republicans are worried sick that the Democrats will be able to use all the nasty sound bites from the GOP debates in the general election. I'm not too concerned for a number of reasons, but the main one is that the GOP will merely have to produce ads in which we show Barack Obama saying, "I'm pledging to cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term in office" and "If I don't get the unemployment rate under 7%, I deserve to be a one-term president."

For good measure, I would produce another ad in which I showed Obama and jobs czar Jeffrey Immelt giggling as the president says, "I guess shovel-ready jobs weren't quite as shovel-ready as we thought." The viewer would be reminded that this came a long time after Obama, Pelosi and Reid, shoved through a trillion dollar stimulus that they promised would turn around the economy.

Only a know-nothing know-it-all like Obama would even consider blowing hundreds of billions of tax dollars on solar panels and railroads, two things that Americans crave about as much as they do a case of measles or mumps.

In spite of Obama's chief of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano's insisting that our southern border has never been more secure, according to Townhall writer Katie Pavlich, there is at least one official sign posted in southern Arizona that reads: "Travel Caution: Smuggling and Illegal Immigration May Be Encountered in This Area." But I suppose Ms. Napolitano can't possibly see the sign from 2,000 miles away.

It's also worth mentioning that the American Bar Association has rated a record number of Obama's judicial nominees as "not qualified," and they weren't even referring to Kagan and Sotomayor. Or, for that matter, to Attorney General Eric Holder, under whose watch the feds allowed over a thousand weapons to be delivered to Mexican drug cartels and who, for good measure, refused to prosecute the Black Panthers for intimidating white voters. For purposes of comparison, the ABA rejection rate of Obama's judicial appointments is four times as high as it was under Clinton or Bush. But I guess that's to be expected when you keep trying to pay off hundreds of crooked Chicago cronies with federal judgeships.

Speaking of numbers, Newt Gingrich came under fire from the self-righteous Juan Williams for referring to Obama as the Food Stamp President. Led by Williams, liberals insisted that was a racist slur. But, then, those self-righteous ninnies consider every honest comment about Obama's administration to be a racist slur.

Liberals were quick to point out that most of the 47,000,000 people now collecting food stamps are white. As typically happens when liberals start tossing numbers around, the purpose isn't enlightenment, but obfuscation. Their intention, whether it's food stamps or crime statistics, is to pretend that guilt can only be ascribed to white Americans.

In the case of food stamps, all they had to do was point out that the majority of those using food stamps are whites, not blacks. While that's true, it's also true that whites constitute two-thirds of the population, blacks roughly one-seventh. So while it's a fact that whites are 34% of the folks on food stamps and blacks only 22%, 66% of the population is white and only 13% black. In case you're one of those who never quite mastered percentages in junior high, let me try to clarify things. There are 310 million Americans, 205 million of whom are white, 40 million are black. That, we can agree, is quite a gap. On the other hand, of the 47 million Americans collecting food stamps, only about 16 million are whites, while nearly 10.5 million are black.

So, while I don't favor Newt Gingrich in the primaries, I think we can all agree that he's not a racist.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said of Juan Williams.

The typical part is: calling Hussein the Food Stamp Pres. makes no reference whatsoever to race; it merely addresses the fact there are 47 million people on food stamps. The loons turned it into a racial issue, trying to deflect the basic point (as always).

Burt,

I'm up early as usual and your column is the first ray of sunshine! Many thanks.

You should consider offering your services to the eventual GOP nominee for 'campaign ad czar', seeing as they all seem a bit challenged. I think the title is catchy too.

BTW - There really should be a list of approved items when someone uses food stamps, as well as term limits. I got an e-mail that showed what looked to be an authentic reciept listing porterhouse steaks, lobsters and several cases of Mountain Dew totaling somewhere north of $140.00.

I don't care what race anybody is and if someone needs a hand now and then that's fine too. But the President and first lady had to get elected in order to eat on the tax payer's dime and I think THEY eat too well. Hopefully they'll have to foot their own tab again after the election.

@mmccrindle:

You are kidding, right? The Obama's are now celebrities--darlings of the left--for life. They will never have to pay for their own dinner again. At least there will come a time when we won't get the bill, even though I am sure a generous pension for them is figured in.

If they lose the election, it will be because the great unwashed (including you and me) didn't appreciate their brilliance. sigh....

What's all that numbermancy you're dealing with, Mr. Prelutsky? That's dark magic, that is, and I don't trust it.

Burt,

You should compile a list of Obama quotes so that our candidate in the general won't forget to mention them. Recall when he told a Michigan congressman (Bart Stupid - sorry Stupak)that he would issue an executive order prohibiting federal funds to be used for abortions in exchange for his bloc of Obamacare votes. Now Obama has an assault on the Catholics and Christians in general, forcing them to accept what we view as morally wrong. He must realy think we're not a Christian nation (another one of his quotes).

Don't forget the phony birth certificate. In 1961 for his father's race it would have said Negro and not African. And where are the republican big shots (you can't call them leaders) calling for a real birth certificate to be produced? What there isn't one? I am shocked shocked, NOT.

You're absolutely right Burt. And DaneChile's comment as well. What's really sad (and revealing) is the subconcious admission from Juan Williams and others on the Left that they EXPECT blacks to be on Food Stamps. But then... perhaps that's exactly where they want them - in poverty and dependent on government for their sustenance.

Burt--you are spot on about Juan Williams. I found his race baiting quote to be particularly humorous. There is only one way those euphemisms could be taken to be racist, and that is if, and only if, you are guilty of racism yourself. Juan hears the words entitlement, poor work ethic, and food stamps, and he automatically thinks of blacks. Mr. Williams would be wise not to blame the GOP candidates for his stereotypical assumptions.

Howard, if a birth cert said you were African, what country would that be? Last time I checked my partner in Bloomfontein, SA was a white Dutch/German whose family has been there for over 200 years. That would probably qualify him as an African but he's not. He's a South African. Also, the last time I looked the Egyptians weren't all black either. Or the Libyans. etc etc. One way and one way only can you be an African American. You must be born in an African country(I think there are 82 of them) and then become an American citizen. ANYONE else calling themselves African/American is a liar looking for victim status, or an ignorant fool. Victim status is important in a society riddled with class warfare promoted by vote seeking politicians. The bamster promises utopia and will deliver tyranny.

Until these politicians are afraid of us we will continue on this 100 year climb towards social democrat slavery.

Burt: I've suggested that the entire "O" administration set up new digs somewhere in El Paso, preferably along the river, and that the House and Senate do the same thing. Strangely, I've never gotten one comment back concerning my suggestion. Nor have I seen any signs of the government prepare to summer along the Rio Grande.

I even suggested that a nice promenade could be built along the river so that the ladies and gentlemen could stroll along of an evening, enjoying the sights and sounds of everyday life there. Apparently it wasn't appealing to them. I have seen no signs of that happening. Can you imagine why?

Napolitano especially should enjoy such a change in atmosphere. She could even go out for a stroll by herself, it's so safe.

Nobody in Washington has ever taken any of my suggestions seriously. Not even the one about ceasing to spend ourselves into the likes of another Greece.

ct-tom: You are right, unfortunately. We will have the Obamas around for a very long time. Think Jimmy Carter and the Clintons. And while the Obamas are rich today (est. $7-10 million), that is chump change compared to where they will be in 10 years. After all, when Hillary was running in the primaries three years ago, we all discovered that the Clintons were worth $110 million! And she still expected the DNC to pay off her campaign debts after she lost. And what's more, the DNC did!

@mmc: If the Obamas are in jail for treason, will they have to pay to eat? Let's hope so!

@Jeanette: You forgot to install "misters" to keep the pathetic commies cool. Even Obama isn't cool enough to be comfortable in El Paso. Plus, Moochelle is sooo hot! Janet, with a square head the size of a refrigerator, probably has a large supply of ice...ain't nothing else in there.

Burt, one ad I'd like to see would be V. Fox, standing in front of OUR congress, denouncing Arizona's law against ILLEGAL immigration to the standing ovation of EVERY democrat and the stunned silence of every republican. Ad a banner underneath stating, "If you thought these democrats were going to represent AMERICAN interests, think again."

The sad thing about Juan Williams is the fact that he is probably the best of the liberals. Juan Williams, along with the likes of Alan Colmes, are the reasons I quit watching Hanity.

D.W. Hudson: I remember the event all too well. It would make for a great ad for any campaign, be it for the presidency, the House or the Senate.

Richard: Juan Williams is a pathetic idiot. But, as you say, he is probably the best of the liberals that Fox keeps parading in front of the cameras. I, too, gave up on Hannity. But it was only partly because of Colmes, Williams and Beckel. It also had to do with Hannity, who is boring and not very bright. Bret Baier's hour remains the best 60 minutes on Fox.

I'm a whole lot less worried about dumb soundbites by Republicans running for President than I am about who we nominate. If Republicans end up nominating a northeastern moderate (Romneyfeller) then we will all have something to worry about. They are for big government - we are for smaller big government; they are for government healthcare with individual mandates - we are for smarter government healthcare with individual mandates; they are for higher taxes on the rich - we are emabarrassed about it but think taxes on the rich should be cut; they are for an ever increasing minimum wage - we are for an inflation indexed minumum wage. Conservatives had better decide whether they want to ride Gingrich or Santorum because if they try to ride Roman style, the race will be short.

Burt,

Another wonderful article. However, I must take exception to your comment about the public's dislike of railroads. I believe you really meant passenger train railroads. Letting AMTRAK take over passenger service was a huge mistake. The railroads should have been allowed to discontinue a service that could NEVER be profitable once the mail and Railway Express were taken away from the railroads, railroads could no longer make a profit on passenger service alone. The railroads had to compete with the airlines and the highway Interstate

system, both subsidized by federal tax dollars. On the other hand, railroad freight service is in high demand and the freight cars do not ruin the highways

as trucks do.

I guess you figured it out that I either work for a railroad or am retired. It's the latter. Thirty five years with a major railroad. Happily retired since 1987.

As ever!

Burt,

I'm so happy to find another conservative that shares my low opinion of Sean Hannity. He IS boring and not very bright (to say the least). He is also painfully repetitious, unoriginal and phony as the proverbial 3-dollar bill (which as we all know, is the phoniest kind of 3-dollar bills). His false humility makes me want to gag. I also can't stand the way he treats his callers. If you disagree with him in the slightest, he won't let you get a word in edgewise; he'll keep shouting the same question over and over, but never allow the caller to answer it. And he has a whiny voice.

There. I feel better now.

I was surprised with all your "numbermancy" as one reader put it that you didn't reframe the percentages of whites and blacks receiving food stamps. Assuming your numbers are accurate 40% of the black population is receiving food stamps and only 8% of the white population is receiving food stamps. Did you forget how many people can't calculate percentages for themselves or did you just think they wouldn't be reading your column anyway?

M Rick Timms. MD

Another great one Burt...

I like to think that the facts will speak for themselves , but I know that we are dealing with a master of distortion who has the full support of the media. I also do not believe that even "conservative" leaning cable shows will advocate loadly for the truth.

I watched on CNN as soldiers in Karbala enetered an underground stoge pit filled with barrels of organophosphate "insecticide". This was camoflaged underground next to a barn filled with empty canister artillery shells ready to be filled. That piece of video was never shown again..but was refernced in an article describing the CNN cameraman, the Knight-Ridder reporter , two soldiers and an interpreter who were overcome by exposure to toxins and taken for treatment.

Not follow-up. No coverage of the ubiquitous atropine pens, and gas masks all over Irag. It was convenient that the Kay and Duelfer reports defined WMD so narrowly as to exclude any dual use product. That meant that only a connected and activated Binary chemical weapon, or a completed Nuclear weapon with the timer activated could meet the definition... Thus NO WMD's" Bush Lied, People died!" they just ignored the thousands of pages of supporting findings that listed the materials found.

Another example... Obama college records.. I think the Republican candidate should provide his college records and application forms and call on Obama to do the same.. The media should demandit. Just because we elected the guy once without it - can we not now insist that the guy reveal his records...

He will not because they will reveal that he applied to college as a foriegn student.

I hope you are right abou the facts, but I see almost 47% who are willing to overlook the facts, even if they knew them.

Posted February 6, 2012 at 7:04:03 PM

Burt Prelutsky

Dr. Timms: You are of course right about the WMD in Iraq. It amazes me that when people refer to a state-controlled media, they still have Pravda in mind and not our own. (At least when the Democrats are running the state.)

LoyalConservative: I agree. Yours would have been a very good way to illustrate the numerical facts.

Robert: I have never tuned in Hannity's radio show. I have only seen his TV show, which I imagined would be greatly improved once Alan Colmes was dumped. I was sadly mistaken.

RobRoi: I was of course referring to trains for passenger travel, the ones that Obama is promoting.

Paoli Pete: Thank you for your offer. I believe I will have two ebooks out this year, one an interview book devoted solely to conservatives; the other, a collection of hundreds of items, generally of an amusing nature, that provide reasons why Obama and his cronies should be sent packing. If I were Sean Hannity, I would have major publishing houses begging to bring out my books. In case you haven't noticed, life isn't fair.

CGreen: I understand that a large number of Republicans are not happy with Romney. But he has the best chance of defeating Obama, and that should be the matter of our greatest concern. The fact that he is having the greatest success in the primaries should establish that fact. After all, if Gingrich and Santorum can't even convince a majority of Republicans to support them, what realistic chance would they have in a general election when, for reasons I'll never understand, they let Democrats and Independents vote.

Jesse Jackson is judging you right now...if you are against Americans receiving food stamps, you are racist. Now, who cares about what Jesse Jackson says? Millions of American blacks who have bought into the victimization role, that's who. But then, look at the number of whites who are dependent upon handouts. They probably think if you are against food stamps, your are a reverse racist. The state will always have the needy underbelly. So what do we do? Give them handouts? Or, demand that those that are able, work? That is part of what you will decide in the next election.

CGreen,

The best thing we can do for our unskilled workers is ELIMINATE the minimum wage. Let the market (the workers and employers) decide how much they make. Think about it: if the wages are too low, no one will apply. Wages will settle exactly where the workers feel their time is worth, no more, no less. And more importantly, where in the constitution does it become the federal government's responsibility to determine fair wages?

"Solar panels" and Railroads should not be associated in the same sentence. Solar panels are a practical and ecomonic joke where as the Railroads are a very important and stategic piece of our economy. The cost of consumer goods would skyrocket if trucks had to haul what the railroads haul. Of all of the forms of transportation (not counting passenger and light rail) in this country -Railroads are the only one not Subsidized by the Government.

Publishers want to bring out political books that are written (ghost-written) by senators, presidential candidates and radio/TV talk show hosts. They assume, correctly, that such books have built-in audiences and they won't have to spend a dime promoting them because all of these people already have major media access.

Burt,

I believe that what CGreen was referring to by aiming low (suggesting that conservatives support Romney vs. Gingrich or Santorum) -- that they then shouldn't be surprised if they harmed themselves (or their base). At least, that's what I got out of it.

If we had a normal American president in the Oval whose policies we just happened to disagree with, I would agree. But this year's election is about voters saving this country or watching over its destruction by occupiers and pretenders--as it is very apparent that our elected reps aren't about to do a damn thing. The checks and balances are all weighted to one side now: the Occupy White House and Occupy Congress crowd of traitors to the United States.

Let's light our torches from their burning of our Constitution that we still believe is the law of the land, pick up our pitchforks and get moving. We must drive them all out of the White House and off Capitol Hill this fall.
