Not all revolutions begin in the streets with tanks and guns. Some advance slowly, almost imperceptibly, until a nation is transformed and the public realizes too late that their freedoms are gone.
Such is the revolution now taking place in America. The '60s crowd has emerged from the ideological grave and is about to impose on this country a declaration of dependence in the form of government-run health insurance and treatment. It matters not what facts are known about this "coup," because to those from the '60s -- whether they lived in that decade or were born later and adopted its ideology -- only feelings and intentions matter, not truth and results.
Why would anyone trust government -- which has a difficult enough time winning wars -- to properly administer health care? What track record does government have in living up to its economic forecasts and competence in running anything?
But this is about none of that. This is about liberal Democrats realizing their decades-old dream of complete control of our lives. Every move you make, every breath you take, they'll be watching you. Except, of course, when it comes to terrorists who want to destroy America faster than the liberals do. A different standard is applied to them.
Nowhere in the debate over health care "reform" have we heard a single word from liberal Democrats about personal responsibility, self-reliance and freedom. In fact, the message has come through quite clearly that government will penalize anyone who demonstrates such beliefs, as it attempts to spread your wealth around.
This is how I see health care reform working: If you are a doctor who has spent a lot of money and time becoming a responsible and caring physician, the government will tell you how much to charge your patients and, in fact, whether you will be allowed to treat them at all. Bureaucrats, having given themselves the power of God, will decide whether a patient is worth the cost of treatment, thereby deciding who lives and who dies. Despite the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, somewhere down the line taxpayers will be forced to underwrite abortions in violation of the consciences and faith of the majority.
This is the triumph of the humanistic, atheistic worldview. We are all to be regarded as products of evolution in which the fit and the powerful will decide our survival and worth.
When Republicans were in the majority, deficits mattered to Democrats. Now we see that expressed concern was a sham, because if deficits meant something when they were relatively small, they ought to mean something more when we are in hock up to the necks of our Chinese-made clothes.
We've only just begun with this. The new breast and ovarian cancer screening guidelines may soon become mandatory as health care rationing kicks in. The unwanted, the inconvenient and the "burdensome" could soon be dispatched with a pill, or through neglect.
Great horrors don't begin in gas chambers, killing fields, or forced famines. They begin when there is a philosophical shift in a nation's leadership about the value of human life. Novelist Walker Percy examined the underlying philosophy that led to the Holocaust and wrote: "In a word, certain consequences, perhaps unforeseen, follow upon the acceptance of the principle of the destruction of human life for what may appear to be the most admirable social reasons."
In our day, the consequences of government seizure of one-sixth of our economy and government's ability to decide how we run our lives (it won't stop with health care) are foreseen. They are just being ignored in our continued pursuit of personal peace, affluence and political power.
Opinion polls show a majority of Americans reject this health care "reform" bill. They think haste may waste them in the end. It doesn't matter. Like members of a cult, whatever the leader says, goes. The facts be damned. The crowd from the '60s will "seize the time," in the words of Black Panther radical Bobby Seale, thus sealing our doom as a unique and wonderful nation.

I am very angry that I have worked a long time as a responsible American citizen, bought a house, paid taxes, saved money for rainy days, to see it disappear in the bank bubbles (caused by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Democrats, an irresponsible Congress, irresponsible regulators, ACORN, ridiculous housing laws), and the deep pockets of this recession. Thank you, President Obama, for spreading our wealth to undeserving louts and illegal aliens. As a responsible citizen, I bought health care insurance, I did not wait for the government to provide it for me. I did not take vacations I could not afford, I did not buy BMWs, Lexuses, Cadillac Escalades, and Mercedes I could not afford, I bought a sensible car. I paid for the birth of my children through the nose when the insurance did not pay, and I did not complain. I watched minorities and illegals benefit from government freebies all the time, entrance to colleges although scores were lower than others, getting jobs ahead of more qualified applicants, screaming racism when their earned grades were lower, expecting free rides vociferously in larger quantities. This diluted and cheapened the efforts of those who actually earned what they received. It is this desire for free everything, promoted by the Democratic Party (what a misnomer, there is nothing democratic about this party) that created the entitlement mentality.
I am tired of hearing about Katrina and how the government has failed LA. The government controlled media never mentions the fact that Mississippi was hit harder than Louisiana, the losses were huge by comparison, but nobody complained, churches, organizations, volunteers, schools, ordinary citizens, rebuilt the state under the leadership of Republican governor Hailey Barbour. Those are helped who help themselves, the old adage is true. What does this administration do now, offer more bribes, more entitlements, create more slaves, more dependence. When Congress is finished with us, there will not be an entrepreneurial soul left in this country - all dissent, uniqueness, exceptionalism, and creativity will be squelched and frowned upon. Who is going to produce the devices, the technology, the procedures, and the life saving drugs that were mostly produced by Americans? Who will volunteer to help countries in need, following disasters? Who will become the policeman of the world? Nobody seems to have the American courage, leadership, willingness, volunteerism, or knowhow. The rest of the world will be in a quandry because they have grown dependent on the American generosity, courage, and free spirit. Mr. Thomas is right, without freedom, U.S.A. will forvever change, joining the rank and file of world governance and dependency. What a mournful day that will be.

Hard to add much to Ileana's excellent comments (best I have read on line today), but I will say in response to Cal's article that the revolution appears to be nearing an end, not beginning. We have lost the republic as Ben Franklin suggested we might. The boundless, inconsiderate greed of many Americans has manifested itself so strongly that they now feel that it is acceptable to expect other American taxpayers to pay their medical bills, car payments, mortgage payments, and for their retirement. I can't comprehend it, but like Ileana, I have always worked hard to pay my own way, educated myself and my family, and lived within my finances (or paid back responsibly when loans were needed, as for homes and cars).

The bright light at the end of the tunnel is that people are finally waking up to what is going on. My fear is that it is too late already to stop this from happening.
Health care will get passed, there will be some grandiose kicking and screaming by various democrats, but more 300 million dollar deals will be made and with a few tweaks it will get passed. I would like to say that this will be the tipping point that brings about some serious civil disobedience from our citizens, but there will be screaming and yelling but it wont be the boiling point. Cap and trade will be the proverbial boiling point, where I believe we will see straight out revolt of citizens in the streets.
Mind you however that we are technically still in a state of emergency thanks to this bogues H1N1 "epidemic", this state of emergency gives the president some pretty scary executive powers that he can legally unleash on the population whenever he wants. 2010 is going to be a very interesting year for our country.

I really hate to say this, but, the only way to save our country is through a full blown Revolution, otherwise, I suppose we all sit back and be good little commies.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism', they will adopt every principle of our socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without ever knowing how it happened." - Norman Thomas (6-time U.S. Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America)

I agree with Ileana, and would only add that during the Ice Storm of 2009, I was witness to the same thing. There was no crying and whinning. Everyone did what they could to help others and we got the job done. Indeed the only real help we had from any government agencies came on a local level.
MY county, and the City of Paducah, did help with the cleanup, but it was everyday citizens that cut down limbs from trees, pulled them out to the roads for the county to remove.
Many people and community groups donated their time, their energy, and even finanical resources to "git er done"
BTW, FEMA, did make a brief apparence, but most of the work had already been started by the time they showed up. (TY President Obama)
Also, those "evil" insurance companies, paid heavily for damages done to our homes, vehicles etc. There were millions of claims through out the area that was stuck by that storm. However that is why we have homeowners insurance for those emergencies. I have noticed that my rates have NOT gone up since that day in January 2009.
If government would get it's collectivist noses out our lives, ALL of us would be much better for it.

I'm afraid I have to agree with "Spirit of 76" and I think we already have a statement of intent from the Obama administration. They've basically said they think capitolism is a farce, that like Moa they believe political power comes from the barrel of a gun and that if the power of persuasion isn't effective they have no problem using the persuasion of power. Sounds like a not so subtle declaration of what they're willing to do to enforce their will. I think we've been fairly warned. Don't you?

Yes, what the Democrats have started is very much like Hitler and his Nazi party started. You see the SEIU thugs beat the guy at the Tea Party and will get off with a slap on the hand. The same thing happened in pre-World War II Germany with the "brown shirts". Anyone that questioned or opposed Hitler paid the price. Now the same is happening with Obama and the Democratic Party. The Democrats have sold out to the Communist Party. It's so bad that now your elected leaders will no longer pay attention to you. If they are Democrats, they vote the way the Party wants them to vote. The only thing we can do now is to vote every last one of them out. There is no such thing as a good Democrat anymore. They are more loyal to their party than they are to the people that elected them. I say vote every last incumbent out of office regardless of his or her party affiliation. Put new people in there that know the same thing will happen to them if they don't vote OUR wishes rather than their party's wishes.

Ileana, very well said. Couldn't agree more.
I wrote the previous and current president, reps, and senators re: the issue of illegals and the financial and cultural gutting of our country, the burgeoning gangs, etc. One reply re: border security is all the response I received. Both Capitol Hill and the public schools are breeding grounds for communism, and the demise of our republic.

HELLO, This has been happening since the 1960's when people who were in College were having it drilled into their heads that No Republic Lasts Forever and it was inevitable that the USA Democracy could last forever. The first time I heard this I was talking with a recently graduated
Attorney (for whom I worked) and I a American from the core couldn't believe what I was hearing. Teach it to them young and they believe it!! Look Out!!
