Dismantling America: Part III

· Thursday, August 19, 2010

One of the few campaign promises that Barack Obama has kept was this: "We are going to change the United States of America!"

As in many other cases, those who were thrilled by the thought of "change" seldom seemed to consider whether it would be a change for the better or for the worse. True believers in the Obama cult assumed that it had to be a change for the better.

Now it is slowly dawning on more people that it is a change for the worse-- runaway government spending, under the banners of "stimulus" and "jobs" is not stimulating anything except political pay-offs to special interests. As for jobs, the percentage of the population with jobs keeping on declining, even as the administration points to all the jobs it is creating.

It is of course not pointing to all the other jobs that it is destroying, whether by taking money out of the private sector or by loading so many mandates on employers that labor is made artificially too expensive for many employers to do much hiring.

But the most dangerous and most lasting damage that this administration has done to this nation has been in the international jungle, where it is alienating our long-time allies, dismantling our credibility by reneging on our commitments to putting up a missile shield in Eastern Europe and-- above all-- doing nothing meaningful to stop the leading terror-sponsoring nation in the world, Iran, from getting nuclear weapons.

We could deter the Soviet Union with our own nuclear weapons, but no one can deter suicidal fanatics, whether they are international terrorists of the sort that caused 9/11 or suicidal fanatics in charge of the government of Iran, who have long been supplying international networks of suicidal fanatics.

Threatening to launch nuclear retaliation against the people of Iran will not deter them. They have already shown how little they care about the people of Iran and how much they care about their fanatical beliefs and hate-filled agendas.

How much does our own administration in Washington care about the American people and their national security? This is not a question you would usually have to ask about any administration of either party. But this is not like any other administration, and Barack Obama is unlike any other President of the United States in having come from a background of decades of associations and alliances with people who resent this country and its people.

Against that background, the Obama administration's undermining of our long-standing international alliances with Britain and Israel, among others, while seeking to reach accommodations with nations hostile to this country, raises painful questions and even more painful possibilities for the future.

Gratuitous affronts to both Britain and Israel began early in the Obama administration, including a clear downgrading of state visits from their national leaders. These affronts were pitched at a level unlikely to be noticed by the general public but unmistakable to anyone familiar with international relations, including both our allies and our enemies. But most of the pro-Obama media said little to alert the public.

It is not only in our foreign relations that the administration's commitment to the national security of the United States is open to serious question. Domestically, as well, the same serious and painful questions arise.

After spending hundreds of billions of dollars on political pork barrel projects from coast to coast-- some frivolous beyond belief-- its only major cut in federal spending has been its move to cut $100 billion from the Defense Department's budget.

If there was ever a time when we needed a larger standing army, as distinguished from relying on National Guard troops, taken suddenly from civilian life and sent on multiple tours of combat duty, this is that time. We need a bigger and constantly modernizing military, not a bargain basement military, trimmed down to leave more money for pork barrel spending.

Sometimes small things can give you a better clue than large things. A recent editorial in Investor's Business Daily pointed out that hundreds of captured illegal aliens from terrorist-sponsoring nations were released on their own recognizance within the United States. Are these the actions of an administration that is serious about the national security of the American people?

With all due respect, the obamanation didn't keep that promise of change. All he did was accelerate the pay-offs and give-aways to wall street cronies (but he did add big labor, a demoncratic maneuver) and allow the communists in congress to continue their collectivization of America - all actions and results inherited from his predecessor. The only change he has brought to America is our need to face the increasingly obvious and desperate choice we all must make: either rid this land of these traitorous monstrosities or die. It is that stark and that simple and that immediate.

Hopefully after the 2010 elections there will be most of the incumbent Obama supporters voted out and replaced by Congressmen/women who support the Constitution of the United States and will demand that Congress and the present Administration follow it. Maybe then Congress will bring a Bill of Impeachment against Obama.

Mr. Sowell,

Once again I agree with every word you said. However, as I have discovered and rediscovered in life, you can be as right as rain, but if you are powerless to do anything about, well, then, that's that. I get one vote every two years and a daily prayer or two. I suppose my point is I sincerely hope the truth of your message gets through the heads of at least 65% of the American people, and soon, lest we be relegated to the ashheap of uninspiring, mediocre and powerless states. But, do keep up the great work. In my opinion, of the myriad of commentators of the American political scene (or political machine?), you are the most enjoyable to read. Thank you.

Reading the first line of this article, I was rather amazed. Mr. Sowell and I appear to be on the same wavelength...in a way.

Just this morning I was thinking of Obama and his favorite word, "change." And it got me to thinking about one of the things he has said before, that change does not happen overnight...or something along those lines. And you know what? He is right! Change does not happen overnight. After all, Russia, Cuba and China did not suddenly change to Communism overnight from whatever they were before. You have to admit, he hit the nail on that one!

All kidding aside, I don't know if Obama and his administration will be the ones to fully transform this nation into a Socialist/Communist utopia (or dystopia rather), but they are certainly laying down the framework for it, setting up the precedent, and fooling too much of the American public in the process. I only hope I am wrong about the latter.

Dr. Sowell is correct, this is not what a President does who is serious about national security, economic prosperity or preserving our Constitutional liberties.

This is, however, what a President does whose goal is to weaken America economically, diplomatically and militarily. Can somebody name a single policy or action by the Obama administration that has NOT resulted in a weaker America?

So many pundits insist, including the highly esteemed Krauthammer, and the normally insightful Jonah Goldberg among others, still insist Obama is simply naive -- that he has a lot to learn, and his blunders are the result of a profound lack of experience. This itself is naivety, of a very dangerous sort. Barack Obama is no more naive than I am anorexic. Everything President Obama has done has been carefully calculated, painstakingly designed, to weaken America in one or more areas of historic strength.

The result, if this administration's agenda goes unchecked, will be a second- or third-rate power reduced to struggling in the mud with the rest of the has-been or never-was countries and ex-superpowers, sitting in awe of China. To these radical Leftists, that's simple justice, because they believe America has been the greatest country on Earth for far too long and we've "unfairly" used our strength to "bully" other countries. A weakened America gives other countries a chance finally to compete with us "fairly" and "justly."

President Obama said it himself when he declared that he is a citizen of the world. He sees America through the eyes of the world, not through the eyes of the American people. He apologizes for America because he truly believes there's a lot to apologize FOR. "America, always wrong" is this administration's motto.

When the whole thing is ablaze and the elite Liberals can stand above the ruins gazing down at the ignorant masses (that's you and me), they can pat themselves on the back. For they will have destroyed the single greatest accomplishment of Man, and they will look upon the destruction, and they will see that it is good.

Meanwhile, without American might to provide stability in the world, Mankind will sink into a horror show of violence, oppression and corruption. We would do well to remember Reagan's warning, "We must succeed, because if we fail here, there is nowhere else to run. The United States is the last best hope for Man."

The next two elections will prove to be the most important in living memory -- if not in American history. We will go to the polls and choose between two visions. Will we choose the death of Liberty and the ushering in of oppression and misery? Or will we reject that agenda offered by this radical administration, and re-assert our faith in the Constitution and American Liberty?

Rarely do you get to see evil - real evil - naked and alone. Most people think the devil comes with horns and pitchfork. But the truth is more subtle. The devil's number is 666 - 6 the number of man, 3 the number of God; satanic evil is this: man raising himself up to be God. That is what the communists believe and worship - in the form of the state. And they would make the State everyman's god. Evil personified fills our current government. The Founders knew that our republic represented the only hope for mankind on this earth - a mere moment of true liberty in stark contrast against all the bloody millenniums of tyranny and oppression. Do you?

Unbelievable that I agree with every word. This is right on target and real scary.

MichaelSSEC - you assume that come November we will have a meaningful choice - unlike most all of the elections of the past two decades. By 2012 I believe that the parasites in power will have so locked up the election process that it will be about as meaningful here as the one currently used in Iran.

Americans are irate about this president.I dont think that citizens are going to sit and watch him dismantle our greatness, therefore,I believe that he will be impeached or assassinated.Exactly when is the next question.

What a great article, too bad the intellect of the average American is barely that of a carefree 12 year old child. Way over the head of the "feel good" citizenry.I pray to God I'm wrong, but after 75 years I have my doubts.

"...hundreds of captured illegal aliens from terrorist-sponsoring nations were released on their own recognizance within the United States."

That is beyond belief. Voting every two years is not enough. Someone must organize the removal from their posts those responsible for these decisions.
