Thank God we have authors like you and Thomas Sowell who point out the hypocracy of the left when it comes to the measure of criticism that Whites are given if they even criticize Blacks like Obama.But put a full court press to defend Obama and tax cheaters like Charley Rangel.

Your ability to see into the hearts of liberals is only exceeded by your ability to explain economic fundamentals so that ordinary people can understand them and thus see why there is no free lunch.

Unfortunately, Dr Williams, the print and TV media and the black community at large (with some notable exceptions like you) are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Democrat Party. They don't report or care what ignorant things Democrats said or did. It's unfortunate but will be very hard to overcome.

And thus, Dr. Williams, you have identified the problems with our inner city schools: the racism inherent in lowered expectations.

Whether Obama misspoke or not, that's a grossly stupid remark, but white liberals among the intellectual elite and the liberal news media all but ignored it. Of course, when former Vice President Dan Quayle misspelled "potatoe," they pounced upon it and had a field day. ^^

The deeper problem with this statement is that the number unconsciously refers to the number of Islamic states, even though they are far from united. Lines of thought sometimes revealed through this kind of slip.

Your observations are spot on Dr Williams. The destructive nature of lowered expectations predicated on any subjective measure (race, region, creed) is insidious and ultimately enraging.

Excellent article, Dr. Williams. This type of thinking was in play with the election of Obama. I believe being black got Obama elected. Barack Obama as a white candidate, with very questionable associations and lack of experience, wouldn't have gotten near the primaries. It was rather patronizing to accept less from a candidate because he is black.

Thus, the great lie of liberalism is slowly exposed.

I think there is a definite color bias in the LSM, but it orients itself along blue & red lines, not black & white. On the one hand you have the examples cited re: Condoleeza Rice and Justice Thomas; on the other hand there is Vice President Joe Biden about whom they say almost nothing, but whose constant gaffes are an embarassment not only to the United States, but the entire planet, and the human race!

Even if "blacks" were not as physically or mentally capable as "whites" or "asians" they should still be held to the same standards because those standards are what are supposed to measure your capabilities to do certain things, so as to ensure you are treated fairly when applying for a job and for being judged on your performance on a job. If you can't do the job but are hired because the standards are lowered for you, then it's possible that could drive the company out of business and low and behold, you are out of work along with all the others who worked for that company, not to mention the owners. Equality of opportunity is right, equality of outcome might be, but usually isn't. Dr. Williams (black) makes a good economics professor, I (white) would fail miserably, because he has the talent and perseverance to do so and I don't. Reverse the color of our skin and I still wouldn't and he would.
