Patriot Perspective
What It Means to Us Today

In lieu of our normal Humor broadcast, today we take a solemn moment to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, when 2,996 innocents, mostly American citizens, were murdered by Islamic fascists. In keeping with the presidential proclamation designating Sept. 11 of each year as Patriot Day, all flags should be flown at half-staff in memory of those who lost their lives that day.
We invite you to join us as we offer our prayers for the families of those lost and for our Armed Forces now serving on the front lines of the Long War against Jihadistan. And let us never forget why we fight the eternal battle against evil.
You may also view our extensive September 11 Retrospective, or the Heritage Foundation's Remembering 9/11 in a Volatile World.
Update: Noticeably absent from The New York Times' 20/20 hindsight, blame-Bush analysis on 9/11 is any mention of the name "Clinton." In fact, the terrorists who led the 9/11 attack settled into American suburbs under Clinton's watch, while the Clintonistas were too busy rejecting FBI reports because of "ethnic sensitivity." One such report was from an agent who wanted to open a case file on a group of Islamists who requested flight training -- more specifically learning to take off in a large jet ... but not land. Her request was denied. Oh, did we mention that our forces had Osama bin Laden, literally, dead in their sights twice in 1998 and 1999, but CLINTON REFUSED to green light the specops, and according to the CIA case officer who was MOST directly involved with the hunt, he confirms Clinton had more than EIGHT opportunities to kill bin Laden. See here.
Update 2: Check out this time lapse video of the new One World Trade Center.

How many remember that Feb. 26, 2013 is the 20 th anniversary of the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Kommandant Klinton and Herr Reno treated it as a criminal attack instead of what it really was.
Also how many people are flying the flag at Half Staff today?

Proudly ran the flag up the pole @ sunrise, then slowly lowered it to half-staff where it will stay until sundown.

Allow me to say up front that I am so very glad our men and women in the armed services step up and perform their duty well in guarding our country. However, September 11, while a day to remember the attack, also must be remembered as the day 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority police officers, and 8 EMTs willingly gave up their lives in order that others may live. Where is the remembrance for them? I have been a firefighter for over 23 years and the men and women I work with are dedicated servants who will willingly die that others may live. We don't necessarily want to, but we will when called to. We do this every day. It seems like this day is more about military than those of us who aren't in the military and still serve our country, it's citizens, and our Constitution. Think about that.

That's why it's patriots day. For all of the patriots, not just the military.

While we all trust that your efforts can help save our constitution and our liberty, perhaps you could help to save proper grammar. Instead of writing "a moment to solemnly mark the 11th anniversary", you could stop splitting the infinitive by correctly writing "a moment solemnly to mark the 11th anniversary" or even "a moment to mark the anniversary solemnly" -- just stop splitting the infinitive.

I'm a firefighter also.To diminish the other firefighter's remarks with your childish banter on grammar shows what a complete DEMOCRAT you are! If you are a REAL AMERICAN and not some Liberal jackass who dove in here to get people pissed off then you owe him an apology.

How were "the other firefighter's remarks" diminished, exactly?

Ah, well....ok...let's do it. Try to do what Mark couldn't do. Which fireman's remarks were, as you claim, "trivialized" ... exactly which fireman was it? Go for it, demorat..

Grammarkook, all of them, every single one of them, you trivialize the entire topic by whining about grammar; is that clear enough for you yet?

Demo-c-rat, English really wasn't/isn't that tough. You should have stayed in school. Perhaps you wouldn't be so angry now...or so trivial.

Grammarian your ad hominen attack does nothing but bring discredit to you. If that's the "best" you could have come up with you should have kept quiet. Many people gave their lives that day. Some because of a selfish act of terror, others to try to save as many lives as possible and all should be remembered.

Grammar offenders never seem to want to improve. Such it has always been, such it will always be. Maybe Alexander will be more responsible than most.

Grammarian,
Your grammar "rule" to not split infinitives appears to be no "rule" at all, but a preference based on rules adopted from Latin.

I and my fellow patriots will continue "to boldly go" vice "to go boldly" thank you. I suggest you do the same, and take your rules with you.

This is a day which I distinctly remember as I was still serving on active duty in the US NAVY when it happened. I realize that a lot of people overlook the firefighters and policemen to honor the Members of the Armed Services, but I just want to say I honor their memory too. However, my brothers in arms who go off to fight usually get the short end of the stick, so that the firefighters and police can sleep soundly in their beds at night. The most amazing thing is that they do it without complaint, and 99.9% without exception. They understand duty, honor, country are not just platitudes to be mouthed to make others feel good like most politicians do. And for the civilians who lost their lives that day, their souls have been guarded by the souls of at least two soldiers everyday since. Since I have spent twnty years guarding this nation, I can honestly say Freedom is never free; and the ONLY reason you sleep securely in your beds is because rough men stand ready in the night to go and visit violence upon those who would do you harm.

The terrorists didn't attack YOU on 9/11. They killed 3000 CIVILIANS including 343 from FDNY! It was about them. The military has Memorial Day,July Fourth, and Veterans Day. Your statements make you sound like Col.Jessup in "A Few Good Men". If you were never under fire then you have brass ones for making such remarks.

Son of Liberty in Colorado: I think you owe Matt in Independence,Iowa an apology.Who are you to minimize what we do? I work with a lot of guys who have served either in VietNam,Iraq,Afghanistan or other places. They don't throw their service in other peoples faces.I've actually heard a shot whistle past my head before. You think only the Taliban have guns?

Mark, I owe NO ONE an apology! I served during the Viet Nam era (didn't go, but if ordered to I would've.) I also went to Desert Storm. It sounds to me like your faux outrage should be spent elsewhere. Have you served? And don't tell me about "You have Memorial Day, and Veteran's Day." Horse crap - Let me clue you in! If it wasn't for the American fighting man you wouldn't have squat for freedoms. For we who have defended freedom, it has a flavor the protected will never know.

My dad served in the Navy in WWII.I nhave a brother who was in 173rd Airborne in Nam.I have another brother who served on the U.S.S.Ranger in Nam. No,I have not served but I can tell you this.Stop acting so pompous because YOU served.I don't need you minimizing what I and 1.7 million other firefighters do every day.You served.Great.I work with guys (as stated earlier) who don't do the chest-thumping that you do.I TRULY appreciate the job ALL VETERANS have done.Humility is a virtue.By the way,I agree with most of your posts just not this one.

Mark, I know what you do on a daily basis and don't envy you, rather I have respect for you. But before you start thinking I'm talking through my hat, let me ask you, who do you think put out the flight deck fire on the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) at 2:30 AM Nov. 30th, 1988? Hint - it wasn't you, but my shipmates and I, and I also lost a buddy in it.
I just tend to get a little pissed when someone tries to give the military the short shrift. We get it all too much from the government. If the citizens realized just how much they really owe the military, things might be different. To sum it up -
It's the soldier, not the reporter who has given us Freedom of the Press. It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us Freedom of Speech. It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate. It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the Right to a Fair Trial. It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who gives the protestor the right to burn the flag. ~Father Dennis Edward O'Brien USN/USMC

Nope, Aviation Ordnance! Of course we were on Gonzo Station in the Indian Ocean (for our 90th straight day at sea) at the time so thankfully all of the ordnance was downloaded for the most part. I also knew the guy who caused the fire, so it was a bummer all the way around. But I really felt bad about my buddy as he was only 19 years old.

Awesome! Thank You for serving this great Republic.Hey,by the way,I had a Capt. in the firehouse, who, sadly has passed on after retirement from cancer. He was an AB on the Forrestal when they had the fire in '67.He had some great clippings from papers around the globe that he and his shipmates shared and he allowed me the privilege of seeing his collection one night when I was working with him.I wish I had gone in at 18 but it's something I will always regret.I DO NOT envy the sailors and soldiers who go into harms way but I do RESPECT their bravery. What was your rate if you don't mind me asking? My brother was x division on the Ranger.70-72 WestPac.
