Even Nobel Jury Doubted Obama
Thursday, October 15, 2009
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports a disturbing development about Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize:Three of the five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee had objections to the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to US President Barack Obama, the Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang (VG) reported Thursday.
"VG has spoken to a number of sources who confirmed the impression that a majority of the Nobel committee, at first, had not decided to give the peace prize to Barack Obama," the newspaper said.
In a surprise move last Friday, the Nobel committee attributed the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama less than nine months after he had taken office.
Indeed, it turns out that Inger-Marie Ytterhorn, who represented the right-wing populist Progress Party on the committee, as well as Kaci Kullmann Five of the Conservative Party and the Socialist Left's Aagot Valle, all objected to Obama's receiving the prize. After some arm twisting by committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland, however, the committee reached its unanimous decision.
Perhaps the committee itself deserves a Peace Prize for overcoming controversy with such audacity to hope.

It has always been my assumption that the Nobel awards are based on achievement. President Obama is still in need of a single achievement. It now seems clear that I shouldn't have assumed.

Why the surprise with BO getting the IgNobel Prize. Remember others who received it? There was Carter who's claim to fame was throwing out the Shah of Iran and putting the madmen in power in Iran. Then there is Arafat who's idea of peace was killing and blowing up innocent people. And Kissinger who gave Viet Nam and Cambodia to the communists. Did anyone say "The Killing Fields". Oops and don't forget Gorbachev. The only ones missing are Adolph, Stalin and Mao.

The motive behind the decision is clear: a U.S. president who can be steered, through his insatiable need for approval....now on a global scale.

Actually this is is simply a cumulation of the way things are going to be going forward here in the U.S. Lower the standards and anyone can be a success. The Nobel committee has turned these awards into the "participant ribbon" of the world. As long as you show up you win. No real meaning, just as long as you get to display a trophy you'll never have self-esteem issues.

Well, this administration has never cared about the majority of voters in this country. Why should they care whether BO got the majority of Nobel votes?

I would love some investigating done to determine who nominated Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize, just two weeks after he took office. He really had not done anything in that small amount of time! It would be verrrrryyy interesting.....

Even with a look back of 12 months the only thing Obama did was talk....he was on the campaign trail. I can talk a good talk; maybe I'll win next time.
The NPP is a joke more now than ever before. It is sad that they have no standards other than a political agenda.

I heard tell that Obama got the NPP simply for not being George W. Bush. As much as I dislike the former president's bumbling, ineffective ways, it seems odd to me to give an award for not being him. I wonder what award the new president will be awarded once he actually accomplishes something. Maybe the No Bell Taco/Burrito Combo Prize for feeding those that aren't actually hungry but just on an all night bender and felt the urge to consume?

After crazy Al (Global Warming and inventor of the internet) Gore and crazier Paul (borrow your way out of debt and spend your way to wealth) Krugman, were awarded theirs, I think that President Obama is in suitable company for his Nobel Prize. I'm a little surprised that they didn't award him the Nobel Prize in Economics, and perhaps Medicine, as well.
Certainly the mentally--and morally--challenged deserve an equal share, don't they?
