File Audi's 'Green Police' Ad Under 'Creepy'

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Audi may win the award for most controversial Super Bowl ad this year.

The commercial for the clean diesel A3 TDI, the 2010 Green Car of the Year, featured the "Green Police" running around arresting perpetrators for various environmentally unfriendly practices. When a man asks for plastic at the grocery store, for example, a GP officer slams his head down on the checkout conveyor and says, "You picked the wrong day to mess with the ecosystem, Plastic Boy." Other infractions include throwing away batteries, failing to compost orange peels, using incandescent light bulbs, or running a hot tub at too high a temperature.

At first, viewers may have been inclined to laugh, but after an A3 driver successfully bypasses a Green Police roadblock, the moral of the story is "Green has never felt so right." Audi later explained that the ad certainly wasn't intended to undermine envirofascist credibility: "The Green Police are a humorous group of individuals that have joined forces in an effort to collectively help guide consumers to make the right decision when it comes to the environment. They're not here to judge, merely to guide these decisions."

"Guide"? Right. Those chills up your spine are normal.

The ad isn't that far off from reality. San Francisco, the "greenest" city in America, already mandates composting. Even Mayor Gavin Newsom Tweeted, "Ok .. That 'green police' Audi commercial hits home.." You don't say.

As James Lakely of BigGovernment.com points out:

I live in a state, California, which recently:

    * proposed fining and jailing people for the crime of driving with under-inflated tires;
    * considered a bill banning cars with black paint from being sold (because black cars trap more heat in the summer and require more use of the air conditioner to make the driver comfortable);
    * banned wood-burning fireplaces in new home construction (and restricts it in "grandfathered-in" homes from time to time by bureaucratic fiat); and
    * outlawed 25 percent of flat-screen TVs on the market because a panel of bureaucrats say they use too much power;

I could list more examples, including a bit from the Audi ad that is actually true: Incandescent light bulbs will be contraband in the United States starting in 2012. Sure looks like the Green Police are real to me.

Such statism can be humorous at a distance, but when life imitates the joke, it stops being funny.

How about listing it as the "FORCE". You either "comply" or "we will FORCE you."

See how "kind and sweet we are" - "We're from the government and we're here to help you" "You're so stupid, you'll hurt yourself, if WE don't "save" you". "We need to regulate your "light bulbs" because they "emit poison gas", WE don't want you hurt" "We love you"

What a bunch of phony saviours. NO KING but JESUS.

LEAVE US ALONE

When I watched that ad my jaw literally dropped open. Other's watching it thought it was funny or at worst cute.

I was sitting there thinking to that there exist people in the nation that would LOVE to see a green police become the law enforcement of the land. Very scary indeed.

I'm glad that SOMEONE in the media caught this. I remember thinking, while I was watching the commercial how this was happening now. I feel that it was an "in your face" message by the left under the guise of us feeling that it's too absurd to be true. It's ironic that it was a foreign (european) automaker sponsoring the ad.

Remember that the German people tolerated a similar government called the Nazis so they apparently think returning to the past is no big deal, they just update the look of the Green Police (Gestapo) so it looks 'hip'. I will avoid Audi like the plague and urge all those I know to do the same. Perhaps Audi will 'get the message' to leave us alone. Compared with the rest of the world, America is among the cleanest.

I like the VW/Audi diesel engine model available in the A3, but their "green" campaign surrounding the diesels is totally overdone. This ad was particularly weird for many reasons, but even in general it is deceiving to suggest that the vehicle is somehow amazingly less polluting than other modern vehicles - it is EPA Tier 2 Bin 5, i.e., average. It uses less diesel than a similar car would of gasoline, but that's it.

Then, at the end of the ad when the A3 driver is released from the roadblock, he is obviously engaging in rather eco-unfriendly aggressive acceleration - the next target of the green police, no doubt.

That commercial is just scary. I can see that happening to. Like at the end when they have the POLICE OFFICER possibly arrested for using "foam cups". This sounds like the Gestapo of the environment...... I wonder if ELF funded this....

I can listen to and make my own CHOICES based on the logic of an argument coming from the standpoint of conservation.

I will resist and fight the man-made religion that worships the creation.

Thank God for the wisdom of our Founding Fathers in ensuring that the Second Amendment was included in the Bill of Rights.

The commercial evolved from what, at first, appeared to be more humorous than threatening; and then morphed into a chillingly realistic portrayal of the attitude of the average environmental zealot. We continually discover more and more fraud and deception on the part of virtually EVERY institutional environmental group and/or agency, from WWF to IPCC. Global Warming is completely discredited, and the enviro-wacko-faschists have been proven liars at every turn. DRILL! DRILL! DRILL! That will put people to work, help our economy, and reduce our dependency on those who want to kill us! How can anybody with a minimal brain NOT see this?

If the enviro-wacko groups continue to trot to court, the best thing to do is to confirm each member's participation, and then tattoo a symbol on their foreheads that would prohibit them from partaking of ANY technology; like the internal combustion engine, air conditioning, flight, TV, radio, any other electronics, etc... Then we'll see how strongly they want to 'live their convictions'!

Good for you, MikeD.

DRILL, DRILL, DRILL GO AMERICA HERE AND NOW.

I agree if the "hippies" don't like our Blessings, air conditioners, gas guzzlers, flight, dishwashers, clothes dryers, and all of our Blessings from our Benevolent God.

GET OUT OF HERE. I like "pollution". I think it will rid us of the "hippies & environmentalists". Their air must be pristine, the water must be "clean", etc. Go where all these amenities are "available". It is not America. We like our Blessings from the Lord. Gas Guzzlers and drill Rigs, pipelines, etc.

Every now and then, Our gracious God will send a blizzard, snow, rain, or whatever to keep us from "polluting ourselves to the brink of extinction." "IN GOD WE TRUST"

I saw that ad as a look to the (not so distant) future. That is the direction the Eco-Facists are going. It shows how ridiculously over-the-top the enviro-extremists would like to be. That's what happens when emotional thought and idealistic fantasy trumps rational thought and reality.

I took that ad as a slap at enviromentalists while showing Audi in compliance with rules of ridiculous men.

This is where we are heading if we are complacent.

This ad should be a wake-up call for us. They tried to make it funny, but it ain't funny. The Progressives are determined to take all your freedoms starting with junk science, then to global small arms treaties and turn our country into a socialistic state. You can turn a deaf ear or laugh it off.. . . .but what will you say when you wake up and find you have lost your freedoms and your country.

"In theory, theory and practice are the same; in practice they are NOT."

Theoretical musings by those on the Left always contain the patina of perfection; ergo, anything less is imperfect and thus wrong. Which is why the extended Federal Republic with your Founders gave you is never good enough for Leftist. Your Founders dealt with human nature, a real world environment--and they infused it with a Biblical understanding of both.

We must continue to suffer these fools in the physical world--the one we all live in; the one outside Ivory Towers & trancendental workshops. "Perfection" as they define it is always the enemy of "Good."

That is why chasing the weather, as they do with GW, is akin to being "tossed to and fro by every new wind of doctrine"...for what is more mercurial than the weather? Too much snow: GW; too little snow: GW. An endless treadmill of stupidity, the sort of punishment found in Greek Hades.

I recall the statement: "Freeze or fry, the problem is always Capitalism and the solution is always Socialism." To true.

How many of you dummies voted for either Al Gore or Barack Obama? 'huh?' 'huh?''

And , how many of these dummies will now publicly admit they made mistakes in doing so? 'huh?' 'huh?'

Well I do know that I will NEVER buy an Audi.

I have no desire to support the eco-terrorism that they are advocating.

People; Realize that Audi is doing the American public a SERVICE by running this ad. It demonstrates too closely what is possibly right around the corner, by disguising it as a "cute ad". It's anti propaganda. They're obviously not endorsing this stuff, they're pointing out the lunacy while at the same time promoting their product. Endorse them, don't boycot them.

even scarier is that some of these "green" solutions are more dangerous than the "problem". i.e. FACT: those energy-saving light bulbs create a full-on HZMAT emergency if you drop them on the floor while changing bulbs and it shatters. The leakage is toxic and deadly!

So the GP will now get you for using plastic? I'm old enough to remember the transition from paper to plastic when the manta was to "save trees" and ask for plastic. I guess we can carry the $50 worth of groceries home in our pockets.

Audi calls to our attention the ridiculousness of the green movement- For eons the planet Earth has done a superb job of taking care of itself. How absurd is the thought that man can do a better job of it? Let's be a little suspicious of this so- called global warming problem when the "scientist"

in England that put forth the "hockey stick" graph has just admitted that he's a fraud and was supported by another fraud for the purpose of SCAMING the public of their tax dollars for cap and trade legislation- Al Gore ought to be ashamed of himself and return the money to the Nobel Committee

so that they can give it to a more deserving recipient. What a racket politics are!

What we need is a Federal Government that does what the Constitution states as their function(s)and nothing more- lets reduce the size of the Government and get back to the basics--GO-GO TEA PARTIES!

To KN:

Part of the problem, thanks to the Obama/Democrat budget, is that in the not too distant future, a girl will be able to carry the $50 dollars worth of groceries home in the pockets of her hip-hugger jeans.

When I was young (60's & 70's) we were taught about the environment and protecting the ecology. I went along. I agreed. ALL pollution was horrible. As I grew older I watched us turn away from glass and paper containers and more to plastics and styrofoam. Over time I came to realize that while unchecked pollution IS horrible, the alternatives are often WORSE.

I remember wearing the ecology "E" symbol sewn onto my jean jacket while I drove my car everywhere. My personal version of "saving the ecology" was NEVER litter and use low phosphate detergent (if it was the cheapest in the store).

Today's "Fascist Greenies" are interesting in that they DO NOT seem to do anything to promote their supposed agenda themselves. Every light in the house is on. Every major appliance is heavily used (dishwashers run even if they're almost empty. Little effort made to actually recycle anything.

They (a few of them) buy hybrid cars and push them in our faces as if they've done some wonderful thing. When asked if they feel that they are actually saving anything they look at you stunned. It doesn't occur to them that the electricity that comes out of the wall actually came from ... SOMEWHERE!

Once again, this generation is being sold on the hype and idea but no-one is pointing out that the alternatives all have downsides that are often worse. Like, for instance, if you thought recycling those AA batteries is a pain, wait til you try to recycle the monster batteries in your car. (or replace them)

Yet again I'm in awe at the audacity of the leeway the liberal left is granted, and not a little worried at the ease with which society allows such blatant ideological thinking in our daily lives! If my family falls under the DHS definitions of a right wing extremist for going to church with my children, having the NATURAL right to protect my life with a pistol or believing (regardless of legalities) that abortion is ending a life, how come this 'innocent' car add is deemed presentable!? Amazing!
