Hope 'n' Change: That Demo Culture of Corruption

Friday, February 26, 2010

The White House is being accused of offering juicy government jobs to two Democrats in exchange for their withdrawal from potential primary battles in this year's election cycle. The charges, which come from the Democrats themselves, are quite serious and carry punishments including jail time, assuming anyone would prosecute.

Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) stated in a televised interview that someone from the Obama administration offered him a high-ranking federal position if he dropped his primary challenge against now-Democrat Sen. Arlen Specter. Sestak would not comment on who approached him or the position offered, and, predictably, the White House denied the allegation.

Meanwhile, former Colorado state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff was reportedly offered a position with the U.S. Agency for International Development in exchange for dropping his challenge against Sen. Michael Bennet.

Both Specter and Bennet are considered vulnerable in 2010, and the White House has thrown its full support behind each. Specter switched parties last year to officially become the Democrat he's always been because he believed that as a Republican he couldn't survive another primary challenge from conservative former Representative and president of Club for Growth Pat Toomey. Bennet was appointed to his current seat last year after then Senator Ken Salazar left to become Secretary of the Interior.

Pointed questions are already being asked in Washington. For example, whose idea was it to approach these men with these illegal quid pro quos? Was White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel involved? Did Vice President Joe Biden play a role? After all, he takes credit for getting Specter to cross the aisle. What kind of stonewalling can be expected from the White House when the request is made for documentation of these conversations? All calls are required by law to be logged.

In the end, however, it's likely that nothing will become of these allegations. After all, to paraphrase Al Gore, is there really any controlling legal authority?

In related corruption news, a House ethics panel found that Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) accepted corporate money for Caribbean trips in violation of House rules. According to the ethics panel, Rangel's staff knew the origins of the money, but they could not determine exactly what Rangel himself knew. Rangel is, for now, the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, though that could change in light of this finding.

So what else is new. If you are a Democrat you canget away with murder. However let a Repubican do the same thing and it brings on a firestorm demanding His/Her resignation/prosecution. Jesus said "woe to the hypocrits."

I seek not for power but to bring it down.

Even if Rep. Rangel didn't know where the money came from (which he so far claims), he is still responsible for everything that happens or fails to happen in his staff. Real leaders hold themselves accountable rather than cower behind others and blame them. When are the highest ethical standards we in the military are held to (and more importantly hold OURSELVES to) going to be the standards our politicians hold themselves to? When are we as citizens going to start holding our politicians to these same standards? George Washington, were is your equal today? Semper Fi!

How did we ever get to this point? What has happened to America? I am watching the distruction of the America I have known for more than 70 years.

How foolish are we to have allowed this pretender to "lead" us. Will it be too late to alter course in November? Are we falling like Rome?

I think not but I do so worry.

Ask any Commanding Officer in the US Navy if his ship runs aground who is responsible and who will lose their command? Surely Rep. Rangel should hold himself to at least that standard. Also this week look at the President of Toyota who came before congress and accepted personal responsibility for the problems with the cars his company made. Rep Rangel is a disgrace to the house and this great country of mine.

The downfall of our governments standards started about the same time that we allowed them to force prayer from our schools.

Corruption is not new in politics - not even at this level. Hypocrisy is not new, but I can't say I remember it at this level. I only pray the good citizens of this country awaken from the great trance of which they seem to have fallen and become aware of the larger part of the iceberg of corruption below the surface. This administration and the leadership of the party in majority cannot stand the light of truth to be shone upon it for very long. Like an iceberg, it is that below the surface that is most dangerous to the ship that is our country and to its liberty. Semper Fi!

In the Rangle issue.....if we as taxpayers don't know the rule, the IRS tells us that ignorance of the law is no excuse, why doesn't this apply to Rangel? His corruption has been going on WAY too long!

It's a damn shame our great country is being supposedly governed by the likes of Rangle. This Puke is guilty of vacationing on the lobbyest buck and he says he didn't know anything about it. Lays the blame on his staff. What a liar he is and then to not take responsibility for his staff. I doubt anything will be done except maybe he will no longer be chairman of the house ways and means committee. This Weasel will only find another way into the chicken coop. I sure as hell don't have any respect for this turd.

Rangel has to choose whether he was illegal by knowing or a moronic dufus for not knowing where the money came from for his trip. Either case goodbye Charlie

I stand with Mike, Bob Mc Bride and Randy above. What those gentlemen said covers exactly my feelings also. Too long we have tolerated the corruption and unethical, immoral behavior of our politicians, while we who served in the military were held and held ourselves to a much higher standard. That needs to change immediately, among many necessary changes inside the Beltway! Leaders set the tone by their example, not by high-toned rhetoric or setting themselves above the people they're leading!

Paul, what makes you think the democrats have a problem with a moronic dufas ? i think they really like them, they seem to be easy to lead off a cliff like lemming

How about the millions Rangel did not know he had? How abut the rental income from his property that he did not declare? This guy is a real creep and is a fine example of when voters keep voting for people who have been in Congress for 20-30-40 years. Time for term limits. We have them for the presidency -- why not for Congress? Power and absolute power -- who said --"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely?" Obama has put Chicago and its eternal corruption into the governing of the whole country. Nobody is listening to citizens put all these jerks into Congress. Speak out in November.

Our Glorious Founders did all they could to insure to US, "leaders of righteousness." The Founders never thought that "a man would go against a solemn Oath before God" so they put that "chain on the future legislators"(the Fear of God, to violate the Oath) thinking that "conscience" would constrain them to virtue.

Now, we see that they have "defiled their consciences" and lying is "normal", the legislators think they go on without giving an account. But the Bible says, "we will give an account for every deed and word before a Holy, Just God."

The penalty for lying is the Lake of Fire - Rev. 21:8 And in that Day, there will be "no excuses" for God who is omniscience, He knows the thoughts and intents of the heart of man. Get it right here, for death is coming and Hell is waiting. Hell was prepared for the Devil and his angels, not for man.

These corrupt acts by demonrats should light fires under conservatives to become active in the election process, and to know what your candidates really stand for by asking pertinent questions to them and having them sign a pledge to never betray the conservative ethic in any way. We must continue to make our voices heard whether they be tea parties, rallies, protest marches, etc. And as election day approaches, we must become that much more visible, that much more active, that much more vocal.
