Student’s Mother Arrested
More “zero tolerance” nonsense.
Performing a good parenting deed resulted in the mother of a special needs child being placed under arrest. Niakea Williams received a phone call from Walnut Groves Elementary School informing her that her son Michael, who has Asperger’s syndrome, was experiencing a panic attack. Niakea drove to the school, was buzzed in and proceeded to her son’s classroom to console and calm Michael – only the school decided to raise their own deplorable ruckus. The principal called police because Ms. Williams apparently violated school policy by failing to sign in at the front desk. As if calling in law enforcement wasn’t silly enough, officials also had the school placed on lockdown. “They escorted me away from my son, who already has emotional distress,” said Williams. “Four officers told me to turn around and put my hands behind my back. I was under arrest.” If only administrators who adhere to such “zero tolerance” nonsense could be placed under arrest.
