How’d you like a nation run by al-Qaida?
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) now controls huge portions of Iraq. The al-Qaida group, spawned when America invaded Iraq in 2003, wants to fuse Syria and Iraq into a state ruled by their draconian interpretation of the Koran. Of course, this required a strong response by the United States, something that would surely get those terrorists’ attention. They composed a whole statement this time, instead of a hashtag. “The United States stands with the Iraqi people and the people of Ninewa and Anbar now confronting this urgent threat,” said Jen Psaki, State Department spokeswoman in a statement. “We will continue to work closely with Iraqi political and security leaders on a holistic approach to diminish ISIL’s capacity and ability to operate within Iraq’s borders. Our assistance enables Iraq to combat ISIL on the front lines, where hundreds of Iraqi security force personnel have been killed and injured in that fight this year.” But nothing too drastic or red-liney – Obama said the conflict in Iraq is over, remember?
