House Republicans, after days of deliberation, passed a $694 million border package and voted to slow Obama’s Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program late Friday, though the Senate had already adjourned for summer recess. “But,” The Hill notes, “passage of the bill is nonetheless a big success for House Republicans, who will now be able to go on a five-week recess having said they took action to secure the border and deal with a wave of child immigrants that have overwhelmed authorities.” The House subsequently took aim at Barack Obama’s memorandum targeting young illegal aliens. The Hill adds, “Following passage of the border supplemental package, the House approved a second measure in a 216-192 vote that would prevent the Obama administration from expanding the DACA program. The program provides two-year work permits for undocumented immigrants who arrived to the U.S. as children before 2007.” No wonder Democrat senators skipped town – they vehemently oppose any Republican fixes, and they know Barack Obama is preparing to take action on his own.
