Shaheen Won’t Say if She Approves of Obama, Audience Laughs

Add Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) to the parade of Democrats who would rather deny Barack Obama than associate with him. In her recent debate with Scott Brown, Shaheen was asked, “Do you approve of the job President Obama is doing? There will be a chance to follow up but this is a yes or no answer. Do you approve, yes or no?” Shaheen couldn’t wait to wiggle out of that one. “In some ways I approve, and some things I don’t approve,” she said, at which point the audience broke out into laughter. So the moderator tried again: “Well, let me put it this way. You have said you are the candidate for the citizens of New Hampshire. Scott Brown often says – I don’t need to tell you – that you vote with President Obama 99% of the time. Because of Obama’s approval ratings are at an all-time low in New Hampshire right now, 38-40%, how does your voting record sort of jive with serving the citizens of New Hampshire?” The answer is it doesn’t, but Shaheen meandered into a monologue about a few jobs created here or there and some help for veterans. But clearly, a vote for Shaheen is a vote for Obama.
