Ed Schultz: I Know, Let’s Disarm the Police!

Last week the Justice Department released a report on its months-long investigation of the Ferguson Police Department, finding the city’s law enforcement guilty of endemic racism. On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz suggested the solution would be to confiscate weapons from the men and women who work around the clock to keep crime off our streets. “What about disarming the police?” Schultz pondered. “What about just having them carry nightsticks and the authority to arrest? I mean, it would take a brave person to do something like that, but if you really want – there are places on the face of this earth that there are police officers that don’t carry firearms.” Yes, and they’re far more dangerous for it. Take, for example, Paris, where unarmed police officers responding to a recent terrorist attack were forced to flee the scene. A similar situation occurred in South Korea, where a week ago the U.S. ambassador was slashed with a knife. As the New York Times reported, “The United States was relying on a lone, unarmed South Korean police bodyguard to protect Mark W. Lippert … when he was attacked.” So much for that. Just as restricting law-abiding citizens’ right to bear arms has no effect on bad guys obtaining guns, disarming police officers won’t stop murderous thugs. As usual, the Left would rather blame the tool.
