Obama Slowly Preparing to Leave White House

On April 24, Barack Obama called Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. During the conversation, Obama hinted that he wanted to build his presidential library and museum in the Windy City, instead of such exotic locales as Hawaii. It was there, in the south side of Chicago, where Barack Obama cut his political teeth working as a community organizer. This is just one sign that Obama is considering a life of community service after he steps down. When he visited with a group of young students at the Anacostia Library in the southeast portion of the District of Columbia Thursday , he told them, “I’ll be done being president in a couple of years and I’ll still be a pretty young man. And so I’ll go back to doing the kinds of work I was doing before, just trying to find ways to help people. Help young people get an education, help people get jobs, bring businesses into neighborhoods that don’t have enough businesses. That’s the kind of work that I really love to do.” There it is: Obama was never interested in — nor very good at — managing the economy, dealing with Putin or ridding the world of terrorist groups. He’s tired of the job.

Hot Air’s Noah Rothman is hopeful of Obama’s future. “A loving father, a devoted husband, and a wildly successful and powerful public servant, Obama is a powerful role model for young Americans,” Rothman writes. “So long as he devotes his career to service and not to criticizing his successor, Obama’s post-presidency might end up being be a praiseworthy one.” Unlike all the other run-of-the-mill community organizers, Obama will have one heck of a resume entry.
