The Dirty Little Secret Behind Obama’s Earth Day Lecture
According to information provided by the Department of the Air Force as part of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) filed by Judicial Watch, Barack Obama’s Earth Day trip to Florida’s Everglades National Park, where he lectured America on the dangers of climate change, was quite green. And by green, we mean it cost lots of green dollar bills. For every hour Air Force One is in flight, taxpayers dole out $206,377. And based on the mission log provided to Judicial Watch, Obama extravaganza included 4.2 hours of flight time. Add it all up, and the bill— which doesn’t include other expenses like security, just “fuel, flight consumables, aircraft overhaul, and engine overhaul,” according to the FOIA response — totaled $866.783.40. In Florida, meanwhile, Obama said, “Climate change can no longer be denied. It can’t be edited out. It can’t be omitted from the conversation. And action can no longer be delayed.” He could have practiced his preaching by not wasting 9,180 gallons of jet fuel just to demonize supposedly fossil-fuel obsessed climate skeptics.
