The Left talks about the right to bear arms in the same breath as “common sense gun legislation.” Somehow, they want us to believe draconian regulation and the constitutional right to self-defense can go hand in hand. But as the news out of San Francisco shows, they can’t. High Bridge Arms announced it will close shop because of the city’s increased gun regulations. High Bridge was San Francisco’s only gun shop, and a historical one at that: It was founded in the 1950s by Bob Chow, a shooter that competed in the 25 meter pistol during the 1948 Summer Olympics. The city kept increasing the number of regulations until, finally, the shop called it quits. First, the city banned the display of outdoor advertisement. Now, it proposed regulation that would have required the shop to videotape all its customers and hand over the information to the city police on a weekly basis. “We feel this is a tactic designed to discourage customers from coming to us,” the shop’s General Manager Steven Alcairo told Fox News. “This year, it’s this and next year will probably be something else. We don’t want to wait for it.” This comes at a time when the residents of San Fran probably need to go armed the most: Thanks to the city declaring itself a sanctuary city, its crime has spiked.
