Cuomo: ‘Nobody Is Demonizing the Ownership of Guns’
Huh?
In remarks on the San Bernardino terrorist attack, New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday defended his party’s gun control proposals — none of which, by the way, would have prevented any of the more than 100 mass shootings that have occurred on Obama’s watch. Cuomo rejected the idea that Democrats are attacking the Second Amendment, claiming, “I am a gun owner. Nobody is demonizing the ownership of guns.”
Well, here’s a quick review of Democrats doing just that (and these are just from the last two weeks):
“[Democrats] have to speak up and just tell the American people we can’t get anything done on gun violence because Republicans are in the way. Put it on the obstructors. Put it on the people who always defend a piece of paper that was 225 years old or whatever, back in a society that doesn’t even exist today. … Then maybe you might strike a nerve with the American people to get rid of some of these jackasses who live by an old document that is just totally outdated.” —Ed Schultz
“Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. … Ban guns! Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.” —New Republic’s Phoebe Maltz Bovy
“Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.” —New York Times
“What I’m observing is that it’s tragic that in the immediate aftermath of a series of high-profile mass shootings people feel like they have to go out and purchase a gun. … [I]t’s tragic and ironic.” —Josh Earnest
“You have such a push to buy in gun magazines, in open stores, guns on display everywhere. It’s a society that has kind of bought into the Kool-Aid that the more guns there are, the better protected you are.” —Sen. Dianne Feinstein
“You know, obviously we have concerns whenever we see people who have large stockpiles of weapons or appear to be in the process of accumulating weapons and ammunition.” —Loretta Lynch
“It is very difficult to find much space between the coming Christian caliphate, which reveres the Second Amendment as a holy text, and the one set up … in Syria and Iraq.” —Susan Grigsby in the Daily Kos
“[The NRA is] a quasi militant wing of the Republican party. They’re being pushed more and more into the camp of guns for everybody any time they want them. And they’re being pushed by — they have a competitor now, gun owners of America.” —Harry Reid
“Your ‘thoughts’ should be about steps to take to stop this carnage. Your ‘prayers’ should be for forgiveness if you do nothing — again.” —Sen. Chris Murphy
“GOD ISN’T FIXING THIS. As latest batch of innocent Americans are left lying in pools of blood, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes.” —New York Daily News front-page cover
