Last Thursday, our friend Foster Friess died. He was 81. Foster had been a Patriot Post reader, encourager, and supporter for many years. A man of faith, boundless energy, enterprise, and foresight, we were all distressed to hear about his cancer diagnosis last September.

Foster grew up on a cattle farm in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He was his high school valedictorian and his family’s first-generation college graduate. He became an Army intelligence officer, and in 1962 demonstrated how smart he was when he married his sweetheart, Lynn.

In 1964, Foster joined the Brittingham NYSE member firm, where he rose to become their Director of Research. Ten years later, he and Lynn founded their own investment firm, Friess Associates. He grew that asset management business substantially, being lauded in 2001 by Business Week as “the longest-surviving successful growth-stock picker, having navigated markets for 36 years, in his own firm since 1974.”

Foster was a major backer of conservative political candidates. He also backed a few successful online conservative publications, including The Patriot Post, and he seeded funding for Charlie Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA. He was committed to organizations whose mission was extending the blessing of Liberty to the next generation and was thus a supporter of our nonprofit Patriot Foundation Trust.

Spending his later years in Wyoming, Foster did what he did best right unto the end — having accumulated significant wealth, in return he invested much of it back into organizations that supported the freedom which made his success possible.

Foster is survived by Lynn, their four children, and 15 grandchildren. His family said, “We are grateful for the wonderful life Foster lived and thankful to the many people who have shared their prayers during his illness.”

Fair winds and following seas, Foster. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
